  2.                IBM OPERATING SYSTEM/2 CORRECTIVE SERVICE DISKETTE
  3.                ──────────────────────────────────────────────────

  6. This file contains important information that should be reviewed prior
  7. to starting the "FIX" procedure.  A brief explanation of how the "FIX"
  8. procedure functions is included along with some precautions that
  9. should be followed.  Please read the entire README file before
  10. continuing with the "FIX" procedure.
  11.  
  12. The "FIX" procedure primarily consists of an IPLable IBM OS/2
  13. Corrective Service Diskette 1.  On this diskette are all the files
  14. required to IPL the system.
  15.  
  16. There is also a subdirectory named \FIX.  If more than one (1) OS/2
  17. Corrective Service Diskette (CSD) is required, each additional
  18. diskette will contain a \FIX subdirectory and CSD_FILE.00s (s =
  19. sequence number).  The \FIX subdirectory contains other
  20. subdirectories, depending on the files that will be replaced during
  21. the "FIX" procedure.
  22.  
  23. The "FIX" procedure will replace ALL, repeat ALL, occurrences of a
  24. file on the fixed disk.  Systems with multiple logical fixed disk
  25. drives (C thru Z) and/or systems with two (2) physical fixed disks
  26. will have all occurrences of these files replaced on all fixed disk
  27. drives.  If there are non-OS/2 files on the fixed disk(s) with the
  28. same name as the OS/2 files to be replaced, they must be safeguarded.

  30. A feature of the "FIX" procedure will allow you to bypass multiple
  31. subdirectories on each logical fixed disk during the MODULE
  32. REPLACEMENT phase.  If a subdirectory is bypassed, all subdirectories
  33. of this subdirectory will also be bypassed.  By creating a
  34. subdirectory and copying the above described files into it, they will
  35. not be replaced.  If more than one physical/logical fixed disk is
  36. installed, you will have the option to bypass replacing files on the
  37. entire fixed disk drive.
  38.  
  39. A list of the OS/2 files to be replaced can be obtained by inserting
  40. the OS/2 CSD into drive A:  and typing the following command:
  41.  
  42.     DIR A:\FIX\ddd (ddd = subdirectory)
  43.  
  44. If there is more that than one (1) OS/2 CSD, repeat this command after
  45. inserting the next diskette.  
  46.

  50.    *   OS/2 and PC/DOS can have identical file names.  If        *
  51.    *   there are PC/DOS files on the fixed disk(s), they must    *
  52.    *   be safeguarded.  This can be accomplished by putting      *
  53.    *   the PC/DOS files in a DOS subdirectory and bypassing it   *
  54.    *   during the MODULE REPLACEMENT phase.                      *

  59. The fixes contained on the OS/2 Corrective Service Diskettes(s) have
  60. been tested in a standard OS/2 environment prior to distribution.  As
  61. a precaution, it is recommended that a BACKUP of the system be made
  62. before starting the "FIX" procedure.  (Refer to the IBM Operating
  63. System/2 User's Reference on using the BACKUP utility.)  Problems
  64. encountered during or immediately following the "FIX" procedure should
  65. be reported to the IBM Service Center via the IBM OS/2 Service
  66. Coordinator.  (Refer to the IBM Operating System/2 Service
  67. Coordinator's Guide for proper reporting procedures.)
  68.  
  69. The following is a description for running the "FIX" procedure and
  70. what is occurring during execution.  Once the "FIX" procedure is
  71. started, please read all screens completely before performing the
  72. requested steps.

  75. INSTALLATION

  78.  1) Insert IBM OS/2 1.30 Corrective Service Diskette 1 into drive A:
  79.  
  80.  2) IPL the system from drive A:
  81.

  83. After the logo screen, the FIX program will display an informational
  84. screen.  All items on this screen should be satisfied before allowing
  85. the program to continue.
  86.  
  87. During MODULE REPLACEMENT, a log file will be created in the root
  88. directory of drive C:.  The name of the log file will be the CSD
  89. number with .LOG as it's extension.  The FIX program will record
  90. everything it does in this file.

  93. MODULE REPLACEMENT
  94. ──────────────────
  95.  
  96. The MODULE REPLACEMENT phase will replace all the files contained in
  97. the A:\FIX\ddd subdirectories.  The program will allow you to bypass
  98. multiple subdirectories on each physical/logical fixed disk drive.
  99. You are asked if a subdirectory is to be bypassed.  If the answer is
  100. YES, you are asked if you have a file containing a list of
  101. subdirectories to bypass.  Prior to starting the FIX procedure, you
  102. may create a file containing a list of subdirectories to bypass.  A
  103. separate file must be created for each physical/logical fixed disk and
  104. must reside on the fixed disk it effects.  Each entry in the list must
  105. contain the full subdirectory name.
  106.  
  107.     Example: C:\dos_dir
  108.              C:\user_dir
  109.              C:\test\subdirectory
  110.  
  111. If you do not have a list, you are prompted for each subdirectory to
  112. bypass.  The full subdirectory name must be entered and the maximum
  113. length of this entry is 77 characters.  If you use a keyboard other
  114. than U.S. English, refer to the U.S. English keyboard template in
  115. the Keyboards and Code Pages Book.

  119. The program will detect if additional physical/logical fixed disks
  120. exist.  If so, the program will allow you to bypass replacing files on
  121. the entire disk.  You are asked if modules are to be replaced.  If the
  122. answer is NO, the program will continue to detect additional fixed
  123. disks.  If the answer is YES, you will have the option of bypassing
  124. subdirectories as previously described.  The program will remember
  125. which fixed disks and subdirectories are to be bypassed, so you will
  126. not be prompted for any additional information.

  128. There are two (2) hidden system files on drive C:.  If these files
  129. need to be replaced, this action occurs at this time.  The program
  130. will then replace the files contained in the A:\FIX\ddd subdirectories.

  132. If there is more than one (1) CSD, the program will prompt you to
  133. remove the current diskette and insert the next one.
  134.  
  135. Errors encountered during MODULE REPLACEMENT are recorded in the
  136. log file and also displayed.

  138. When MODULE REPLACEMENT has finished, you will be asked if there
  139. are more CSD's to install.  If the answer is YES, remove the
  140. CSD from drive A:, insert diskette 1 of the next set and press Enter.
  141. If the answer is NO, remove the CSD and IPL the system from drive C:.
