  17. To decompress them with the EAs intact, InfoZIP's Unzip (latest OS/2 version
  18. 5.12 - http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/os2/archiver/unz512x2.exe) is required.

  20. What is THE OS/2 Icon Collection Anyway?

  22.      THE OS/2 Icon Collection is one of the largest/best (IMHO) OS/2 2.x/3.0
  23. icon collections on the Internet, with over 3700 (3765 to be exact) icons.
  24. If you've been longing for some high-quality icons to dress up your OS/2
  25. Desktop, then you must get it!  They are also great for decorating your
  26. homepages, too!  For those of you who have Hobbes Archived/Ready to Run for
  27. OS/2 CD-ROMs from Walnut Creek, many of the icons in this library are
  28. featured there; however, they haven't been updating their collection since
  29. late 1994 (many icons are from #6), so you'll miss several hundred new/
  30. improved ones added over the past year and a half if you don't want to set
  31. aside some HD space for icon storage.

  33. Why 3 Different Editions?
  34. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  35.      There are always more than one approach to solving a problem, and
  36. sometimes there is not a significantly superior one.  In this case, we want
  37. to enjoy drag-n-drop icon assignments, yet without the waste in precious
  38. disk space, esp. when storing the thousands of icons (in .ICO format) on
  39. FAT partitions, where clusters could be as big as 32KB.  The two proprietary
  40. icon storage formats introduced here provide built-in compression, saving up
  41. to 61% of disk space over the standard .ICO format (based on my tests on
  42. HPFS, results are more impressive under FAT).  Dave Lester uses the notebook
  43. metaphor in IconEase, whereas Paul van Keep takes advantage of folders in Icon
  44. Heaven.  I can't really recommend one over another, so you might want to try
  45. them out first before deciding which program to go for.  They are available

  54.      For those who have large HPFS partitions, the standard .ICO edition
  55. might be the one for you; it retains the standard OS/2 .ICO format, which
  56. would be more convenient if you are planning to convert some of the icons
  57. for use on your homepages.  Otherwise, get either the IconEase or Icon
  58. Heaven edition...
