This file gives information for users who want to upgrade from
an older version to XFree86-3.3.1.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Please read the whole text completely, before taking any action.
1. The beta versions 3.1.2D-G are expired now. Remove them and
install the recent version 3.3.1.
2. If you want to upgrade from 3.2 to the version 3.3.1: It is
not recommended to copy new files over old ones. 3.3.1 contains the new
X11R6.3 code base which is in some aspects INCOMPATIBLE to 3.2.
In case of an update, you MUST remove the old code and install ALL
new packages (including fonts!).
3. You may copy 3.3.1 over a 3.3 or 3.2A tree, because both versions
already have the aforementioned incompatible changes. Still be careful
though that an unpacking of the archives may overwrite user files like
xinitrc.cmd.
4. If you have 3.3 and no interest to get the latest X Open Group fixes
for the libraries and applications, you might consider to upgrade only
the X server. This is possible. You must also install the file
ftp://set.gmd.de/pub/misc/XFree86OS2/3.3.1/shm.zip, or your server won't
run. This is an experimental addition which might be fixed in the future.
5. You have to remove the XConfig file and re-run the xf86Config program to
apply changes necessary for some hardware.
