OS/2 Warp: Update Warp Installation Diskettes
09/06/95
===========================================================================
=============== B E F O R E Y O U S T A R T: ==================
===========================================================================
This utility can be used to refresh your Warp 3.0 Installation diskettes
#0 and #1 with some of the Fixpack XR_W010 files. It will work for either
a Warp diskette-based or CDROM-based install.
Backup your original OS/2 Warp Installation Diskette #0 and diskette #1
before running this utility. Use DISKCOPY in either DOS or OS/2 to copy
your diskettes. If you are using 3.5" diskettes, be sure to use 2MB
capacity diskettes. 1MB capacity will not work reliably when formatted
to 1.44MB. Use the backup copy when running this utility.
You should unpack WFWIN10.ZIP into a directory by itself using the
PKUNZIP.EXE utility. Total space required for WFWIN10.ZIP and the
un-zipped files is about 3.4 MB.
If you have already installed Warp on your hard disk, then you
should verify your current version of Warp before continuing
with this update program. Type SYSLEVEL in an OS/2 screen
session and check that "OS/2 Base Operating System" current CSD
level is XR03000, XR03001, XR03002, XR03003, or XR03004. These
include OS/2 Warp For Windows ("Enhances Your Existing DOS and
Windows"), Warp Fullpack ("Includes DOS and Windows Application
Support"), and Warp Connect. If you have a later Warp version,
or if you have OS/2 1.x or 2.x, then you should not use this utility.
===========================================================================
=============== I N S U F F I C I E N T D I S K S P A C E: ==========
===========================================================================
This utility handles 3.5" and 5.25" installation diskettes. If you are
using 5.25" diskettes (or if you have vendor-supplied device drivers):
1. Free diskette space is very limited on 5.25" diskettes.
If you find that the UPDINST utility reports an error during
processing, this will likely be an "insufficient disk space"
error message.
2. You will likely need to delete one or more un-used files from
your second 5.25" diskette. These can be DELETEd:
*** Warning: If you delete files, be sure to do delete only
from your backup diskette. Keep your original
Warp Install diskette(s) intact.
HPFS.IFS (already deleted for CDROM 5.25" diskette install)
TEDIT.EXE
TEDIT.HLP
Additional files may need to be deleted to obtain more free disk
space. One approach would be to delete either AIC7770.ADD,
AIC7780.ADD, or both:
Determine if your hardware includes an Adaptec SCSI disk
controller card. The device driver AIC7770.ADD is for Adaptec
AHA 2740/2742, AHA 2840/2842VL, and the AIC 7770 EISA/ISA SCSI
chip. Delete AIC7780.ADD if you have any of the above controllers.
Delete AIC7770.ADD if you don't have any of the above controller
cards.
Alternatively, you may instead delete unused CDROM drivers. This
approach would be to delete SONY535.ADD, SONY31A.ADD and SONYCDS1.FLT:
Determine if your hardware includes an Sony CDROM drive. If you
do not have a Sony CDROM drive, then you can delete these files.
If you have a Sony CDROM drive and do not have a Phillips CDROM
drive, then you can delete LMS206.ADD instead.
3. Edit CONFIG.SYS on Install diskette #1.
For files that you DELETEd in step #3, insert a REMark at the
beginning of each line that refers to a file that you deleted.
Delete any 'SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1' lines. (This line is added
automatically by the UPDINST utility.)
4. Proceed with instructions, including running the UPDINST utility.
The UPDINST utility is designed to only update files that are
actually on your Warp Install diskettes. Therefore, you will
have no problems when you delete optional files (the deleted files
will not be re-added).

===========================================================================
You may run this utility either from native DOS, or from Warp OS/2.
To run this utility from PC-DOS or MS-DOS,
1. Change your directory to the directory containing the unzipped files.
2. Type
UPDINST C: A:
where C: is the drive where the unzipped files reside, and
A: is the diskette drive where you will be inserting
the OS/2 Install diskette #0 and #1 that you want
to have updated.
To run this utility from Warp OS/2,
1. Start an OS/2 Fullscreen or Windowed session.
2. Change your directory to the directory containing the unzipped files.
3. Type
UPDINST C: A:
where C: is the drive where the unzipped files reside, and
A: is the diskette drive where you will be inserting
the OS/2 Install diskette #0 and #1 that you want
to have updated.
===========================================================================
=============== N O T E S: ====================
===========================================================================
Please note:
This utility ONLY updates your Warp Install diskettes #0 and #1.
It does not update Warp on your hard disk.
If you have previously run the older WFWIN5 utility on your install
diskettes, you will still need to run this WFWIN10 utility to
obtain the latest updates. WFWIN5 is NOT required, since WFWIN10
is cumulative and contains all fixes.
If you run this utility (or WFWIN5) multiple times against the same
set of Install diskettes, you will need to edit CONFIG.SYS and
remove duplicate lines that contain SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1. This
will conserve valuable diskette freespace.
If this utility fails due to insufficient free disk space on Warp
Install diskette #1, then you can manually:
1. Delete TEDIT.EXE and TEDIT.HLP from your diskettes. These can
be found on both diskettes #0 and #1.
2. If you are installing a CDROM version of Warp, you can also
delete one or more unneeded CDROM drivers (see CONTENTS below).
Be sure to REMark out the corresponding lines in CONFIG.SYS
located on diskette #1.
3. You may delete one or more unneeded disk controller drivers
(see CONTENTS below). Be sure to REMark out the corresponding
lines in CONFIG.SYS located on diskette #1.
When you have completed the update of your Warp Installation diskettes
#0 and #1 with this utility:
1. If Warp is not installed on your hard disk, then
proceed with the complete Warp Install process.
This will install the *original* OS/2 Warp onto
your hard disk.
2. When installation of OS/2 Warp is completed, you
should update Warp on your hard disk with the
full XR_W010 Corrective Service. Obtain the
Warp fixpack (6 diskettes) and the "kicker"
diskettes "WKICKR" (2 diskettes).
The "kicker" diskettes are known as the
"Corrective Service Facility diskettes" and are
used to perform the actual installation of XR_W010.
To proceed with the Installation of OS/2 Warp,
shutdown your system and reboot with Warp Installation
diskette #0 in your diskette drive.
If Warp is already installed on your hard drive,
then apply the XR_W010 Corrective Service (if not
already completed).

Below is a list of files that will be replaced on the diskettes.
Note that this is a list of files that are expected to be already
on the diskettes. Files listed below with '*' will not be updated
if not present, regardless of diskette type. Also, files listed
below with '*' will be updated if present, even if they are not
expected to be on the diskette (shown as 'N/A').
Files marked '*CDROM' are device drivers for CDROMs.
Files marked '*DISK' are device drivers for disk controller cards.
