  26. If you have successfully applied the first release of this FixPak there
  27. is no reason or need for you to apply this one. If you have a Future
  28. Domain SCSI and received a message like the following at boot after the
  29. FixPak was completely installed
  30.  
  31.   "OS2 is unable to operate your hard drive or diskette drives. The
  32.   system is stopped. Correct the preceding error and restart the system."
  33.  
  34. you can recover by unpacking the archived files from your archive directory
  35. to the right location on your boot drive.
  36.  
  37. As an example, if your archive directory was D:\ARCH and you were booting
  38. Warp from C: then you would enter the following commands to restore the
  39. files to their original state.
  40.

  96. On the drive with the most free space in the \IBMCSFLK\FIX directory
  97. (and sub-directories) files that had service deferred because they were
  98. locked (in use) are placed in unpacked format. The amount of space this
  99. requires varies but can be between 1 and 4MB. These files are then moved
  100. to the correct directory as part of the Locked File process when you reboot,
  101. the directory and subdirectories are then removed.
  102.

  106. 1) You will need the OS/2 Warp 3.0 Corrective Service Facility boot
  107.    disks to install this FixPak. These files should be available from
  108.    the same place you got this FixPak from as
  109.  
  110.    WARPBDSK.1DK - Corrective Service Facility disk 1
  111.    WARPBDSK.2DK - Corrective Service Facility disk 2
  112.  
  113.       - or -
  114.  
  115.    WKICKR.ZIP   - File compressed with PKZIP. Contains both of the
  116.                   above disk images. Requires PKUNZIP or UNZIP to
  117.                   extract original files from compressed file.
  118.  
  119.    To create diskettes from the disk image files you need LOADDSKF.EXE.
  120.    This is also available from the same place you got this FixPak from
  121.    as
  122.  
  123.    LDF.COM      - Self extracting file that will create LOADDSKF.EXE.
  124.                   Place in a separate directory on your harddisk then
  125.                   enter LDF.
  126.  
  127.       - or -
  128.  
  129.    LOADDF.ZIP   - File compressed with PKZIP, contains LOADDSKF.EXE.
  130.                   Requires PKUNZIP or UNZIP to extract original files
  131.                   from compressed file.
  132.  
  133.    Note: LOADDSKF.EXE is also on any CD-ROM version of OS/2.
  134.  
  135.    Use LOADDSKF.EXE to create the diskettes. For each disk image place
  136.    a 2MB HD (1.44MB formatted) diskette in A:
  137.  
  138.    a. Enter LOADDSKF WARPBDSK.1DK A: /F
  139.         Label as CSF DISK Diskette 1                          (SP DISK 1)
  140.  
  141.    b. Enter LOADDSKF WARPBDSK.2DK A: /F
  142.         Label as CSF DISK Diskette 2                          (SP DISK 2)
  143.  
  144.    c. Enter LOADDSKF XR0W005.1DK A: /F
  145.         Label as FixPak XR0W005 Corrective Service Diskette 1 (CSF DISK 1)
  146.  
  147.    d. Enter LOADDSKF XR0W005.2DK A: /F
  148.         Label as FixPak XR0W005 Corrective Service Diskette 2  (CSF DISK 2)
  149.  
  150.    e. Enter LOADDSKF XR0W005.3DK A: /F
  151.         Label as FixPak XR0W005 Corrective Service Diskette 3  (CSF DISK 3)
  152.  
  153. 2) If you installed OS/2 Warp 3.0 from a CD-ROM some files being updated
  154.    may have the Read Only attribute set. This will cause the update
  155.    program to ask you if you want them replaced. Answer OK.
  156.  
  157. 3) If the following files are not updated on your system after this
  158.    FixPak has been applied then you must install this FixPak a second
  159.    time without backing out the first install. This should correctly
  160.    update these files:
  161.  
  162.           USERS.SCR
  163.           WINOS2.COM
  164.           WINSMSG.DLL
  165.  
  166.    To check if the files were updated look at the SERVICE.LOG in the
  167.    \OS2\INSTALL directory. There should be two entries for each file.
  168.    The entries should look (for example) like one of the following:
  169.  
  170.          Archiving for x:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\USERS.SCR.
  171.          Updating x:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\USERS.SCR
  172.  
  173.                          or
  174.  
  175.          Archiving for x:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\USERS.SCR.
  176.          Deferring service of x:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\USERS.SCR
  177.  
  178.      (x: is the drive where Microsoft Windows is installed.)
  179.  
  180.    If the entries are not there then you need to repeat the install of
  181.    this FixPak as mentioned above. Do not back out the first install
  182.    of this FixPak. Just repeat the install a second time.
  183.  
  184.    If this does not update the above files then you will need to do this
  185.    manually as follows.
  186.  
  187.    - Locate where the above files reside in your Windows directory.
  188.        Normally WINOS2.COM will be in C:\WINDOWS.
  189.        Normally USERS.SCR will be in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.
  190.        Normally WINSMSG.DLL will be in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.
  191.  
  192.    - Make a backup copy of each of the files.
  193.  
  194.    - Place FixPak XR0W005 Corrective Service disk 2 in A:.
  195.    - Enter UNPACK A:\FIX\OS2.1\WINOS2.CO_ C:\WINDOWS
  196.  
  197.    - Place FixPak XR0W005 Corrective Service disk 3 in A:.
  198.    - Enter UNPACK A:\FIX\OS2.1\USERS.SC_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  199.    - Enter UNPACK A:\FIX\OS2.1\WINSMSG.DL_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  200.  
  201. 4) Important for MultiMedia users. Perform the following before applying
  202.    this FixPak if you have MultiMedia installed on your system and
  203.    MVPRODD.SYS and/or CS4231.SYS are in the MMOS2 directory.
  204.  
  205.    By default a FixPak will only update files in the root (\) and OS2
  206.    (\OS2) directory (and it's subdirectories). To update files in other
  207.    directories like MMOS2 for MVPRODD.SYS and S4231.SYS contained in
  208.    this FixPak you need to do the following:
  209.  
  210.    - Create a file USERDIRS.OS2 in the \OS2\INSTALL directory of the
  211.      OS\2 Warp partition to be serviced.
  212.  
  213.    - Locate where MVPRODD.SYS and CS4231.SYS are currently located on
  214.      your system. If they are not on your system then you do not need
  215.      to do this step. If it is C:\MMOS2 (for instance) place a line in
  216.      this file as shown:
  217.  
  218.      C:\MMOS2
  219.  
  220.      DO NOT include the trailing backslash.
  221.  
  222.      Note: This capability will also work if you have moved any of the
  223.            directories that would normally be under \OS2 to other drives.
  224.            Just add them to the above file.
  225.  
  226.      Note: Leave this file for any future OS/2 Warp FixPaks you may
  227.            apply.
  228.  
  229. 5) The Current CSD level for the "IBM OS/2 Base Operating System" will
  230.    not be changed by installation of this FixPak even though the
  231.    SERVICE.LOG file states it will. This FixPak is not a Service Level
  232.    change, it upgrades the existing service level (XR03000), therefore
  233.    the SYSLEVEL is not changed. All fix information is recorded in the
  234.    SERVICE.LOG.
  235.  
  236.    Look at the file
  237.  
  238.          \OS2\INSTALL\SERVICE.LOG
  239.  
  240.    for information relating to the installation of this (or any) FixPak
  241.    on your system. To see the current release level and other related
  242.    information use the SYSLEVEL command.
  243.  
  244. 6) If you get a "No files to service" message while applying this FixPak
  245.    then the Current CSD level or Component ID of the "IBM OS/2 Base
  246.    Operating System" is incorrect. Correct values must be:
  247.  
  248.          Current CSD level: XR03000
  249.               Component Id: 562260100
  250.  
  251.    If these values are correct then check for the following files:
  252.  
  253.          CSF_SEL.000
  254.          LOGF0000.OS2
  255.          LOGSTART.OS2
  256.  
  257.    If any of them exist then rename them and try the FixPak install again.
  258.    If it works then delete the renamed files.
  259.  
  260. 7) See the README2 file on this same disk for a list of APARs fixed.
  261.  
  262. +=====================================================================+
  263. |                        Installation Process                         |
  264. +=====================================================================+
  265. To INSTALL this fix perform the following steps:
  266.  
  267.  1. Insert CSF DISK Diskette 1 in A:.
  268.  
  269.  2. Open an OS/2 window or Full Screen.
  270.  
  271.  3. Enter a:\service and press the ENTER key.
  272.  
  273.     Note: DO NOT boot CSF DISK Diskette 1. This method is only for
  274.           use with CID install and requires a response file tailored
  275.           to your system.
  276.  
  277.  4. Follow displayed instructions. When prompted to insert Corrective
  278.     Service Diskette 1 (not CSF DISK Diskette 1) place FixPak XR0W005
  279.     Corrective Service Diskette 1 in a:. Repeat for disk 2 and disk 3
  280.     when requested to do so.
  281.  
  282.  5. If this is the first OS/2 v3.0 Warp FixPak you have applied to
  283.     this system then enter the path where a copy of replaced file(s)
  284.     will be stored in the ARCHIVE directory, Ex. D:\ARCHIVE.
  285.  
  286.     Note: This ARCHIVE directory is not related to the ARCHIVES directory
  287.           built into OS/2 Warp 3.0. Please specify a different path.
  288.  
  289.     If this is not the first OS/2 Warp v3.0 FixPak then enter the path
  290.     where a copy of replaced file(s) will be stored in the BACKUP directory,
  291.     EX. D:\BACKUP.
  292.  
  293.     For either case make sure there is a sufficient space available. Even
  294.     though these files are kept in compressed (PACK2) format they will
  295.     require 4.5MB of disk space.
  296.  
  297.  6. Click on "OK".
  298.  
  299.  7. You will see an "Application in use" dialog box showing a list of
  300.     locked files that cannot be serviced while the system is running.
  301.     You are given two choices, to Continue or Reboot. Please select
  302.     Continue.
  303.  
  304.     During the install process you will see messages about Archiving,
  305.     Updating and Deferring service.
  306.  
  307.     - Archiving saves a copy of the original file in the archive path you
  308.       specified.
  309.  
  310.     - Updating means the original files is replaced with the new one from
  311.       this FixPak.
  312.  
  313.     - Deferring service means the file to be updated is currently in use
  314.       by the system and cannot be updated. The new files from the FixPak
  315.       are placed in the \OS2\INSTALL\IBMCSFLK\FIX directory on your Warp
  316.       boot drive in unpacked format for use by the locked file device
  317.       driver during reboot after you shutdown.
  318.  
  319.  7. Select NO for redisplay of "Product List" when displayed (after
  320.     the first part of the FixPak apply process has completed) if this
  321.     is displayed.
  322.  
  323.  8. Click Cancel and Exit to close the Corrective Service Facility window
  324.     if necessary.
  325.  
  326.  9. Shut down and reboot your system.
  327.  
  328. 10. You should see the following during reboot.
  329.  
  330.     The locked file driver is loaded.
  331.  
  332.            Processing locked files
  333.  
  334.            Processing complete
  335.  
  336.     At this point the system may do an automatic reboot.
  337.  
  338. Note: The entries in CONFIG.SYS for Locked File device driver support will
  339.       remain after the installation has completed. This means that every
  340.       time you boot you will see the message about "Locked File device
  341.       driver". You can remove these entries from CONFIG.SYS and then
  342.       delete the IBMCSFLK.* files from your harddisk.
  343.  
  344.       The CONFIG.SYS entries will look similar to the following:
  345.  
  346.       DEVICE=C:\OS2\INSTALL\IBMCSFLK.SYS C:\OS2\INSTALL\IBMCSFLK.LST
  347.       RUN=C:\OS2\INSTALL\IBMCSFLK.EXE C:\OS2\INSTALL\IBMCSFLK.LST

  349.       C: above will actually be your Warp boot partition.
