FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ARTISOFT SHIPS LANTASTIC(R) FOR OS/2(R) NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM
Fully Compatible with IBM's OS/2 Warp Operating System
(TUCSON, AZ -- Oct. 31, 1994) -- Artisoft, Inc. announced today that its LANtastic
for OS/2 network operating system is now available through the company's distribution
and reseller channels. This 32-bit networking system, announced earlier this month,
is the first true worldwide OS/2 peer-to-peer network operating system on the market
today. The LANtastic for OS/2 network also offers compatibility with version 3.0 of
IBM Corporation's OS/2 Warp operating system. This new system was unveiled by IBM
earlier this month.
"We have received quite a positive response from resellers and end users to our
announcement of the LANtastic for OS/2 network," commented Artisoft Vice President of
Software Products Sunil Padiyar. "With IBM's OS/2 push into the small business market,
LANtastic for OS/2 is well- positioned to provide an ideal networking solution for
these users, who can turn to Artisoft for not only excellent networking products, but
award-winning support and service as well."
"Our network is mainly DOS- and Windows(TM)-based. LANtastic for OS/2 made the transition
to a new operating system extremely easy," said James Ridgway, software engineer at
Resinall Corporation in Hattiesburg, Miss. "We have 20 users and they have all found this
network to be very easy to use; not one user has had a problem. The integration of
LANtastic for OS/2 with our operating system was better than other networks I've used and
the installation is one of the easiest I've ever come across. I thought, `It can't work this
easy!' But it did."
The LANtastic for OS/2 network allows LANtastic network users to easily integrate OS/2
system machines into their existing DOS and Windows networks. It also offers OS/2 workgroup
users an easy way to add peer features to their network while maintaining connectivity to
the enterprise LAN.
Training Seminars
As a part of its ongoing commitment to educating its resellers, Artisoft recently launched
a 21-city product training tour. These seminars will provide Artisoft and Eagle Technology
resellers with technical and sales training on the LANtastic for OS/2 network and the
CorStream(TM) dedicated server. Attendees will also receive free LANtastic for OS/2 network
and CorStream server software valued at $888. These seminars will be offered in cities
throughout the U.S. until Nov. 10.
Advanced Connectivity
LANtastic for OS/2 network users can connect to Artisoft's LANtastic network versions 5.0
and 6.0, the CorStream dedicated server, and the Simply LANtastic(TM) network. In addition,
users can connect to key servers on such networks as IBM's LAN Server and Microsoft's Windows
for Workgroups, Windows NT(TM), and LAN Manager systems. LANtastic for OS/2 network users
will also have the benefit of co-existing with Novell's NetWare Requester(TM) for OS/2 software
and LAN Server network client software on the same machine, allowing users to operate on
multiple networks simultaneously.
Powerful Features
The LANtastic for OS/2 network operating system combines the award-winning features of the
LANtastic network operating system, including ease of installation, use, and maintenance as
well as low cost. Artisoft took advantage of the native OS/2 Presentation Manager Graphical
User interface (GUI) to provide LANtastic for OS/2 network users with an object-oriented design
that shields them from the intricacy of the network operating system.
Pricing
The LANtastic for OS/2 network is available in one-, five-, 10-, 25-, 50-, and 100-user
software kits starting in price from $139 for a one-user kit to $4,999 for 100 users.
Artisoft (Nasdaq "ASFT") is one of the world's leading suppliers of scalable, cost-effective
