  3. Earlier, I suggested that IBM dedicate OS/2 version 2.0 to the memory of
  4. Gene Roddenberry.  I received  a couple of comments and questions, which
  5. I'd like to cover in a general note.

  8. - Gene Roddenberry is the  creator and inspiration behind Star  Trek and
  9.   Star Trek the Next Generation.
  10.  
  11.  
  12. - My motive is simple.  Gene gave us all a hopeful vision of the future.
  13.   To some of us an understanding of how our life's work, computers,  can
  14.   foster the future.
  15.  
  16.  
  17. - His work goes beyond TV or the movies.  He tried to help all of us see
  18.   a positive future  for mankind.   A future where  all intelligent life
  19.   respects one another regardless of  how different or similar they  are
  20.   to the other person.

  23. - I do not see the dedication as a marketing ploy or gimmick.
  24.  
  25.   As books have dedications, I envision the OS/2 version 2.0  dedication
  26.   to be simple.

  28.   I am proposing a one or two paragraph dedication located on the inside
  29.   cover of the  2.0 installation instruction  manual.  Again  a possible
  30.   dedication is:

  32.   IBM  dedicates OS/2  version 2.0  to the  memory of  Gene Roddenberry.
  33.   Gene gave us  all a hopeful  vision of the  future.  To  some of us an
  34.   understanding  of  how  our  life's  work,  computers,  can foster the
  35.   future.

  37. **PLEASE NOTE:   ONLY people who already  bought OS/2 or got  an upgrade
  38.   would see the dedication.  IT WOULD NOT BE USED TO SELL OS/2!!!!!!!
