IMMEDIATE AVAILABILITY FOR COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER/2 VER. 1.0 for OS/2(R)

Networking Systems Laboratory and PSP are pleased to announce
the General Availability of IBM Communications Manager/2 Version 1.0
announced on January 26, 1993. General Availability was announced for
March 26, 1993.
Communications Manager/2 Version 1.0 provides expanded communications
services or Operating System/2 (R) (OS/2 (R)). This program
represents the separation and further enhancement of the
Communications Manager components included in the IBM OS/2 Extended
Edition and Extended Services for OS/2 products.
Enhancements include:
o Improved installation and configuration processes
o Incorporation of the First Failure Support Technology (TM) (FFST
(TM)) for improved problem determination
o Improved and converged 3270 and 5250 terminal emulator
o Addition of ISDN connectivity services
o Multiple PU 2.0 support
o Expanded usability improvements.
Operating Environment:
Communications Manager/2 runs on OS/2 Version 1.30.1
with Corrective Service Diskette 5050, or later, or OS/2 Version 2.0,
or later. Communications Manager/2
supports most PS/2 (R) and PS/ValuePoint (TM) systems as well
as selected non-IBM systems.

revised installation and configuration processes
o Exploits the recently announced IBM configuration, installation
and distribution (CID) methodology

with the conversion to the Presentation Manager (R) interface
o Offers functional enhancements and Presentation Manager
interfaces for the 3270 and 5250 terminal emulators
o Expands communication services with the addition of support for
Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Basic Rate Interface
(BRI) to support lower cost digital switched telephone lines
o Increases workstation and gateway capacity
o Offers Multiple PU 2.0 support to enable up to three concurrent
physical host connections
o Protects customer investment by providing upward compatibility
with applications written to utilize the OS/2 Extended Edition
and Extended Services for OS/2 Communications Manager subsystem
APIs.
