  282.            functional improvements that reduce complexity and increase
  283.            productivity.  The new improved processes include automatic hardware
  284.            discovery, pre-set workable defaults (for example, a ready to run
  285.            emulator) and automatic validation of parameters.
  286.            INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION:  Customers may now install and
  287.            configure Communications Manager remotely.  This significantly
  288.            reduces the effort required to install large networks.  System
  289.            administrators may install and configure workstations from a code
  290.            server, at any point on the LAN, or from the central network
  291.            management site.  Communications Manager provides administrators with
  292.            installation templates to assist in developing configuration files
  293.            for similar workstations and similar work groups.  These templates,
  294.            called model configurations, may be tailored with an ASCII editor for
  295.            a workgroup or an individual user.  These files allow the
  296.            installation and configuration of an individual workstation without
  297.            any end-user involvement.  Because these templates are easily
  298.            modified, system administrators do not need to repeat the
  299.            configuration process for similar end users or workstations.  These
  300.            improvements provide a streamlined installation and configuration
  301.            process.  The time savings from these improvements result in
  302.            increased productivity for administrators and end users.
  303.            FIRST FAILURE SUPPORT TECHNOLOGY (FFST):  System availability and
  304.            maintainability are enhanced by incorporating the sophisticated
  305.            problem determination capabilities of FFST.  Communications Manager
  306.            support of FFST enables improved problem isolation and enhanced
  307.            automation at centralized problem management focal points (for
  308.            example,  LAN or System/370 (TM) NetView (R)).
  309.                   The use of FFST enables an OS/2-wide consolidated message,
  310.            error and dump facility.  This facility permits a more comprehensive
  311.            approach to logging, viewing and managing problem notifications at
  312.            each individual workstation.  This improves productivity and
  313.            usability with respect to problem determination.
  314.                   In addition, Communications Manager now includes alert routing
  315.            to the LAN Network Manager.  Alerts such as "printer paper out" can
  316.            be filtered for action at the LAN Network Manager.  This permits more
  317.            serious network outages to be passed through to a centralized network
  318.            operator at NetView, helping to reduce costs and increase
  319.            productivity.
  320.                   Communications Manager has enhanced management services API to
  321.            support local nested focal point (FP) applications.  These FP
  322.            applications can be nested to permit the customer to reduce the
  323.            number of sessions to higher FPs (for example,  NetView) and
  324.            partition the network into manageable spheres of control (SOC).
  325.            Nested alert FPs receive alerts and forward them to a higher alert
  326.            focal point (for example, NetView).  Additionally, functions of
  327.            nested alert FPs include:
  328.            o   Logging alerts
  329.            o   Displaying alerts at the nested FP
  330.            o   Filtering and correlating alerts before forwarding to a higher FP
  331.            o   Holding alerts until an available higher focal point becomes
  332.                available.
  333.                   Communications Manager has improved the reliability and
  334.            availability of its network management transports.  This is
  335.            accomplished by providing the ability to initiate acquiring a FP
  336.            (called implicit FP support), automatic recovery of primary FPs (up
  337.            to eight backup FPs are supported) and remembering the current FP
  338.            over restart.
  339.                   Communications Manager has enhanced management services APIs
  340.            to support local network management applications or remote operators
  341.            in managing APPN (TM) topology and LU 6.2 accounting data.  By
  342.            simplifying the task of gathering APPN topology information,
  343.            Communications Manager allows the network operator to concentrate on
  344.            the actions required to effectively manage network resources.  By
  345.            implementing LU 6.2 accounting, Communications Manager provides the
  346.            capability to track network usage to an end-point resource and
  347.            predict growth requirements in the network.
  348.                   Communications Manager now provides Session Level Encryption
  349.            (SLE) for customers requiring data security for sessions between
  350.            workstations and hosts.  This capability allows customers to use
  351.            IBM's Transaction Security System adapters or to develop their own
  352.            encryption and decryption routines.  SLE improves data security while
  353.            providing customers with increased flexibility.
  354.             (TM) Trademark of International Business Machines Corporation.
  355.             (R) Registered trademark of International Business Machines
  356.               Corporation.
  357.            BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
  358.            The function of Communications Manager/2 is now available in a
  359.            client/server implementation.  This initial release of the
  360.            Communications Manager Client Server/2 supports OS/2 client
  361.            workstations operating on a token-ring LAN.  The client workstation
  362.            contains a rich subset of the functions available in Communications
  363.            Manager/2, including 3270/5250 terminal emulation.  The Communication
  364.            Manager server performs SNA communication services required by the
  365.            client.  It can also function as a gateway for clients and other IBM
  366.            terminal emulator products.  This new product provides several
  367.            significant benefits.  The ability to share resources (such as
  368.            communication links) between many clients reduces the
  369.            cost-per-workstation of host communications.  Because most of the
  370.            communication services are provided by the server, client
  371.            workstations require less memory and DASD than "full sized"
  372.            workstations without sacrificing function.  Customers can therefore
  373.            obtain Communications Manager function at a lower cost per
  374.            workstation.  Communication Clients can access multiple servers
  375.            across the LAN, which enables workload balancing by the server and
  376.            provides a degree of backup and fault tolerance.
  377.                   The communications capability of Communications Manager has
  378.            been expanded with the addition of support for Integrated Services
  379.            Digital Network (ISDN) Basic Rate Interface (BRI).  ISDN is a world
  380.            wide standard for digital networks.  ISDN connectivity offers the
  381.            capability to utilize digital switched telephone lines over short or
  382.            long distances.  It offers improved quality and transmission rates at
  383.            lower cost when compared to leased lines and switched analog lines.
  384.            The ISDN function is ideally suited in environments requiring
  385.            switched connections and higher bandwidth that support APPN, APPC,
  386.            X.25, 3270 emulation, NETBIOS, 802.2 and applications.  In this
  387.            environment, Communications Manager ISDN support provides
  388.            productivity improvements and increased efficiency when compared to
  389.            previously available remote connectivity options.
  390.            END USER PRODUCTIVITY
  391.            All Communications Manager end-user interfaces are enhanced to
  392.            provide increased useability and user productivity.  They now have a
  393.            consistent Presentation Manager based end-user interface.  The 3270
  394.            and 5250 terminal emulators now have a common code base.  The 5250
  395.            emulator is now based on Presentation Manager interface.  Another
  396.            emulator enhancement is a graphical end user interface for tasks such
  397.            as file transfer, color remapping and keyboard remapping.  The
  398.            graphical interface improves end-user productivity for these tasks.
  399.            Users need only point and click with a mouse to accomplish these
  400.            tasks.  The emulators are standardized to provide end users with a
  401.            common appearance and operation.  For instance, Communications
  402.            Manager products allow the end user to remap the keyboard for 3270
  403.            and 5250 emulation (customers may still remap keyboards separately).
  404.            This one step operation enables the end user to switch emulators
  405.            without having to adjust between different functions for certain
  406.            keys.  This saves time and rework.
  407.            GROWTH ENABLEMENT
  408.            Communications Manager provides customers with functions that
  409.            increase the capacity of workstations and communication gateways.  A
  410.            Communications Manager workstation or gateway can now be physically
  411.            connected to more than one host or gateway concurrently.  This
  412.            Multiple PU 2.0 support is an important capability because it allows
  413.            the customer to connect the workstation sessions in up to three
  414.            separate networks or hosts.  For non-distributed function terminal
  415.            (DFT) workstations, the 3270 emulation session limit on OS/2-based
  416.            workstations has been increased.  The 3270 emulator can now support
  417.            16 concurrent sessions with 26 sessions configured, compared to the
  418.            previous limit of five.  The 5250 session limit has been increased
  419.            from five to fifteen.
  420.                   With the Communications Manager Client Server/2 product,
  421.            communication services are concentrated at the server workstation.
  422.            This off-loads much of the work typically performed on a
  423.            communicating workstation.  The Communication Clients therefore
  424.            enable customers to accomplish more with existing workstations.
  425.            INVESTMENT PROTECTION
  426.            Communications Manager protects the customers' investment in OS/2 by
  427.            providing upward compatibility for applications that were written to
  428.            utilize the communications manager component of OS/2 Extended Edition
  429.            and Extended Services for OS/2.  Customers can now run existing
  430.            applications using the new ISDN services.
  431.                   The Communications Manager products also protect customers'
  432.            investment in hardware.  Customers can take advantage of the power
  433.            and performance of OS/2 Version 2.0 and Communications Manager on
  434.            many models of non-IBM system units.  Communications Manager/2 and
  435.            Communications Manager Client Server/2 will run on systems that use
  436.            80286 processors and OS/2 Standard Edition 1.30.1 (with CSD 5050).
  437.            Customers can utilize existing systems to begin the implementation of
  438.            Communications Manager based applications.
  439.            SYSTEM APPLICATION ARCHITECTURE (R) (SAA (TM))
  440.            Communications Manager/2 Version 1.0 and Communications Manager
  441.            Client Server/2 Version 1.0 comply with the CUA (TM) 91 Application
  442.            Oriented model.
  443.                   Communications Manager/2 and Communications Manager Client
  444.            Server/2 provide the SAA Common Programming Interface for
  445.            Communications (CPI-C).
  446.                   The Communications Manager products implement the following
  447.            SAA Common Communications Support architectures:
  448.            o   LU6.2
  449.            o   SNA management services

  459.            o   3270 Data Stream.
  460.             (R) Registered trademark of International Business Machines
  461.               Corporation.
  462.             (TM) Trademark of International Business Machines Corporation.
  463.            *  These architectures are supported partially in the Communications
  464.               Manager products and partially in corequisite adapter cards.
  465.            PRODUCT POSITIONING
  466.            The Communications Manager/2 products are IBM's premier

  697.            MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:
  698.            SYSTEM UNITS:  Communications Manager/2 and Communications Manager
  699.            Client Server/2 will run on IBM PS/2, PS/ValuePoint, PC/AT (R), IBM
  700.            Industrial Computers and selected non-IBM system units.  The system
  701.            unit must have an 80286 (or higher) processor, adequate random access
  702.            memory (RAM) and storage capacity.
  703.                   For the server component of Communications Manager Client
  704.            Server/2, it is recommended, but not required, that the system unit
  705.            be equipped with an 80386 (or higher) processor.  It is recommended
  706.            that customers consider the recently announced PS/2 server strategy
  707.            when selecting the server system unit for the Communications Manager
  708.            server.  That strategy identified three tiers of server systems.  The
  709.            tiers include:
  710.            o   An entry level system, typified by the PS/2 Model 80 or Model 85
  711.            o   An advanced availability system, typified by the PS/2 Models 95
  712.                and 95 XP
  713.            o   Fault tolerant systems, such as the PS/2 Model 295.
  714.                   Medialess systems may be used in conjunction with remote
  715.            installation procedures.  The Communications Manager products can be
  716.            loaded remotely from an IBM LAN Server Version 2.0 or Version 3.0
  717.            server.
  718.                   In instances where the Communications Manager products will be
  719.            locally installed, the system unit should have a diskette drive
  720.            capable of reading either 3.5-inch high capacity (1.44MB) or
  721.            5.25-inch high capacity (1.22MB) diskettes and a fixed disk storage
  722.            device.
  723.                   The fixed disk storage and random access memory capacity
  724.            requirements will depend on a number of factors, including the
  725.            customer's configuration, operating system and other installed user
  726.            applications.  The following estimates are provided as a guide.  The
  727.            Communications Manager/2 will typically require a minimum of 2MB
  728.            system memory and 10MB of fixed disk storage in addition to the
  729.            requirements of the operating system, customer applications and data.
  730.            The Communications Manager server will typically need  4MB of RAM and
  731.            10MB of DASD.  These requirements will vary, depending on the
  732.            Communications Manager features and functions that the user installs.
  733.                   To further assist, memory and fixed disk estimating worksheets
  734.            are provided in the PLANNING INFORMATION section.  Copies of these
  735.            worksheets are included in each program package.  The customer should
  736.            consult the documentation of the selected operating system and
  737.            applications to determine the memory and fixed disk storage capacity
  738.            that are required.

1146.            COMPATIBILITY:  Communications Manager/2 and Communications Manager
1147.            Client Server/2 provide upward compatibility for applications that
1148.            were written to utilize the APIs of the communications manager
1149.            subsystem in the OS/2 Extended Edition and Extended Services for OS/2
  1150.            products.
1151.                   Customers can upgrade the communications manager subsystem in
1152.            the Extended Edition and Extended Services products.  This upgrade
1153.            may impact certain other functions and subsystems in the Extended
1154.            Edition, and Extended Services products.  Following is a description
1155.            of the impact of upgrading the communications manager subsystems.
  1156.            o   Upgrade of OS/2 Extended Edition:
1157.                       When Extended Edition is upgraded, the functions and
1158.                subsystems outside of the Communications Manager subsystem will
1159.                be lost.  Specific examples of these functions are: the LAN
1160.                requester, the database manager subsystem, the SQL LAN Only
1161.                Option (SQLLOO) and the Extended Edition level of the User
1162.                Profile Manager (UPM).  The LAN requester is now available as a
1163.                distributed feature in the OS/2 LAN Server Version 2.0 and LAN
1164.                Server Version 3 products.  The UPM function will be replaced
1165.                with the enhanced level of UPM in Communications Manager.  The
1166.                SQLLOO function is not supported by the new Communications
  1167.                Manager products.
1168.            o   Upgrade of Extended Services for OS/2:
1169.                       When the Extended Services communications manager
1170.                subsystem is upgraded, the Communications Manager subsystem is
1171.                replaced.  There will be no impact to applications or subsystems
1172.                that previously utilized the communications manager subsystem.
1173.                If previously installed and configured, the database manager
1174.                subsystem will continue to function and it can be re-configured.
1175.                If not previously installed, the database manager subsystem may
1176.                be installed after the Communications Manager upgrade with the
1177.                assistance of a utility provided with Communications Manager/2
1178.                and Communications Manager Client Server/2.
1179.                   The Text Assist feature of the AS/400 PC Support program is
1180.            not supported in either Communications Manager/2 or Communications
1181.            Manager Client Server/2 Version 1.0.  This feature was affected
1182.            during the convergence of the 3270 and 5250 emulators.  This will
1183.            also affect any applications using this feature, such as PC Organizer
1184.            and OfficeVision (TM)/400.  Support of the Text Assist feature under
1185.            AS/400 PC Support program will be made available in a later release
1186.            of the Communications Manager products.
1187.                   The Programmable Configuration function available in Extended
1188.            Services for OS/2 and the Batch Configuration utility available in
1189.            OS/2 Extended Edition are not supported in either Communications
1190.            Manager/2 or Communications Manager Client Server/2.  The
1191.            Programmable Configuration function has been replaced with a new
1192.            installation and configuration process and with the implementation of
1193.            new general OS/2 configuration, installation and distribution
1194.            processes.  Because Programmable Configuration is not supported, the
1195.            OfficeVision/2 Configurations Utility can not be used with either
1196.            Communications Manager/2 or Communications Manager Client Server/2.
1197.                   Communications Manager may coexist on a network with NetWare
1198.            (6) LAN requesters and servers.  In addition, NetWare LAN requesters
1199.            may be installed on the same workstation as the Communications
1200.            Manager.  Instructions for the installation of the NetWare requester
1201.            for OS/2 are included in the NetWare Services for OS/2 product.
1202.            Users will find additional information in the OS/2 LAN Server
1203.            Version 2.0 and NetWare from IBM Coexistence Guide.  Users should
1204.            refer to the COEXIST.TXT file in the NetWare Requester before
1205.            installing the requester with either the Communications Manager or
1206.            the LAN Server Version 2.0 or Version 3.0.
1207.                   Communications Manager provides support for the IBM C Set/2
  1208.            32-bit compiler.  By using the C Set/2 Compiler, advanced 32-bit
1209.            applications can be developed that use the following Communications
  1210.            Manager APIs:
  1211.            o   APPC
  1212.            o   CPI Communications (CPI-C)

  1223.            o   LUA
  1224.            o   Connection Manager.
1225.                   The C ".H Include" file is provided to support the
1226.            Communications Manager APIs.  The ".H Include" files have been
1227.            modified to support application development using either of the
  1228.            following compilers:
  1229.            o   IBM C Set/2 Compiler (for 32-bit applications)
  1230.            o   Microsoft C Compiler Version 6.0 (for 16-bit applications).
1231.                   Applications developed with the IBM C Set/2 Compiler run on
1232.            OS/2 Version 2.0.  Applications developed with the Microsoft C
1233.            Version 6.0 Compiler run on OS/2 Standard Edition Version 1.30.1

1236.             (6) Registered trademark of Novell, Inc.
1237.            SNA GATEWAY:  Communications Manager/2 and the Communications Manager
1238.            Client Server/2 server may function as an SNA gateway.  A
1239.            Communications Manager gateway, which need not be dedicated, allows
1240.            multiple users to transparently access a System/370 host.  At the
1241.            workstation, it appears as if the connection is direct to the host.
1242.            The host perceives the gateway as one or more physical units (PU2.0
1243.            or PU2.1) with a maximum of 254 logical units (LUs) per PU shared
1244.            among the workstations.  The supported protocols are IBM LU 0, 1, 2,
1245.            3 and dependent LU 6.2.  However, support is not provided for the
1246.            dependent LU 6.2 protocol from an IBM SNA Services/6000 workstation
1247.            to a Communications Manager/2 or Communications Manager Client
  1248.            Server/2 gateway.
1249.                   The SNA gateway supports up to 254 concurrently active
1250.            workstations per PU on the LAN.  Multiple LUs can be active on each
1251.            workstation (subject to the aggregate constraint of 254).  LUs may be
1252.            dedicated to a workstation or pooled among workstations.  Pooling
1253.            allows workstations to share common LUs, which increases the
1254.            efficiency of the application of the LUs and reduces the
1255.            configuration and startup requirements in the host.  There can be
1256.            multiple pools of LUs; each pool is typically associated with a
1257.            particular application.  Whenever a link is established through the
1258.            gateway between a workstation and the host, the LU is brought up when
1259.            the session is brought up.  The LUs are then returned to the pool for
1260.            other workstations to use when the session is brought down.
1261.                   Workstations that run Communications Manager/2 and the
1262.            Communications Manager Client Server/2 server can utilize SNA
1263.            gateways that have been configured using OS/2 Extended Edition and
1264.            Extended Services for OS/2.  SNA gateways configured on
1265.            Communications Manager/2 and the Communications Manager Client
1266.            Server/2 server can support workstations running any of the following

1351.            recommended for use on system units with processor speeds above 33MHz
1352.            when using the SDLC protocol.  The Communications Manager SDLC device
1353.            driver has been modified to compensate for timing situations between
1354.            the adapter card and the processor.  However, under some
1355.            circumstances the processor will outrun the adapter.  This causes the
1356.            adapter to hang.  This could also affect other devices that share the
  1357.            OS/2 Level 3 interrupt.

1372.            PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS:  System performance depends on a variety
1373.            of system unit and communication load factors.  These include the
1374.            type and speed of the system unit processor, number and types of
1375.            communication adapters installed, the line speed of the communication
1376.            service and the amount of processing done by the applications
1377.            utilizing the Communications Manager products.

  1383.            PLANNING INFORMATION
1384.            CLIENT SERVER IMPLEMENTATION:  The client server support in
1385.            Communications Manager Client Server/2 Version 1.0 entails splitting
1386.            the communications functions between a communications provider (the
1387.            Communications Manager server) and a communications requester (the
1388.            Communications Client).  The Communication Client will have a subset
1389.            of the functions available in the Communications Manager/2 (single
1390.            user) workstation.  Remote interfaces for CPI-C, APPC, LUA
1391.            applications and Common Services APIs that are compatible with those
1392.            available on the single user Communications Manager are provided on
1393.            the clients.  These remote APIs allow applications to run on client
1394.            machines and transparently access the resources present on the
1395.            LAN-attached Communications Manager server.  The Communications
1396.            Manager server provides the clients with connectivity services to
1397.            other LAN workstations and also to wide area network nodes for SNA
1398.            connectivity.  Clients communicate with each other and with single
1399.            user workstations via the Communications Manager server.  The
1400.            Communications Manager server can also act as a full function
1401.            Communications Manager single user workstation.  As such, the server
1402.            can serve as a gateway for Communications Manager single user
1403.            workstations as well as for the clients.
1404.                   Following is a high level comparison of the functions that are
1405.            available in the Communications Manager single user, server, and

1431.               Plus emulator is granted for the Communications Manager/2 and the
1432.               server component of Communications Manager Client Server/2 only.
1433.               The Softerm Custom Plus license is not applicable to the OS/2
  1434.               Communications Client.
1435.             (19) Trademark of Softronics, Inc.
1436.             (TM) Trademark of International Business Machines Corporation.
1437.                   The Communications Manager client server implementation is
1438.            based on an OS/2 communications server with OS/2 client workstations.
1439.            The approach used in Communications Manager is to provide the least
1440.            amount of code necessary in the client to make the request to the
1441.            server.  This allows customers to utilize their "low end"
1442.            workstations for more significant SNA applications.
1443.                   The client server implementation provides several benefits:
1444.            o   Communication clients can access multiple Communications Manager
  1445.                servers across the LAN:
1446.                -   This helps improve performance by balancing traffic during
  1447.                    busy work periods
1448.                -   Clients can be added with minimal administrative efforts and
  1449.                    system administrative costs
1450.                -   This provides a degree of fault tolerance and backup
1451.                    capabilities which reduces potential system downtime and lost
  1452.                    workstation productivity
1453.            o   The ability to share resources (such as communications links)
1454.                between several clients reduces the cost per workstation of host
  1455.                connections
1456.            o   The memory and DASD requirements for communication clients are
1457.                less than those of "full function" communications workstations:
1458.                -   Customers can obtain communication services at a lower cost
  1459.                    per workstation
1460.                -   Customers can utilize existing "smaller" workstations to run
1461.                    the same applications that might otherwise require new
  1462.                    hardware purchases (investment protection)
1463.                -   By utilizing existing hardware inventories, customers can
1464.                    more quickly implement new applications (they don't have to
1465.                    wait for new equipment, budgets or purchases).
1466.            MEMORY AND FIXED DISK ESTIMATING WORKSHEETS:  The following
1467.            worksheets may be used to help determine hardware capacity
1468.            requirements.  To estimate requirements, add the recommended memory
1469.            or hard-file size for the functions and components desired.  These
1470.            totals, plus sufficient buffer, must be added to the capacity
1471.            required for the base OS/2 operating system, other user applications
1472.            and the requirements for user data.
1473.                   The numbers shown in the worksheets are for planning purposes.
1474.            They represent the probable memory size in megabytes for concurrent
1475.            operation of the functions listed and not the total size of all the
1476.            code and data areas that comprise the functions.  The quantities
1477.            shown assume an acceptable degree of swapping.
