Overview
IBM Network Design and Analysis/2 (NetDA/2) Version 1 Release 5 is an
OS/2 (R)-based network topology, routing design tool that provides
design, analysis, and optimization support for: TCP/IP, APPN (R)
HPR, SNA APPN, SNA subarea, as well as NCP Version 6 and NCP
Version 7 frame relay networks. It is comprised of a comprehensive
set of functions, such as node sizing, link selection, route
generation, performance and availability evaluation, network
simulation and reporting.
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) has been
added to NetDA/2 V1R5. You will now be able to define a standalone
IP network, using a minimal Network Input object with a single
service net node. Also, design simulation and report functions offer
increased functionality for TCP/IP networks.
The frame relay function is enhanced to allow you to duplicate
permanent virtual circuits (PVC). The new PVC will go through
exactly the same physical route, however, its PVC number will be new
and the data link control identifiers (DLCI) will be filled with
empty values.
Additional transmission group (TG) numbering modes are available for
PVC registration and integration. This gives you more flexibility in
assigning PVCs to TGs.
Frame relay support is provided in an organized frame relay notebook
view. This release includes enhancements for the manipulation of
current PVCs.
Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (R) (APPN) enhancements include
reports on the weight of selected nodes and TGs in all of the APPN
classes of service (COS). The Route Control Notebook now contains an
APPN page to allow the generation of a report of all least weight
paths between pairs of nodes, for a specific selected COS name.
Route Listing Reader is a new function that reads a route listing
file into a Network Design Object (NDO). This function helps in the
migration from NETDA MVS (R).
As a product that can help make decisions in many facets of network
design and development for multi-protocol networks, NetDA/2 Version 1
Release 5 will continue to be a valuable tool to network designers
and support personnel.
Intended Customers
Networking customers that need a product to help in network planning,
design and analysis of wide area networks with multiple protocols,
for example, TCP/IP, APPN, SNA subarea or frame relay.
Key Prerequisites
NetDA/2 V1R5 is the latest network design and planning tool that runs
under Workplace Shell (R) for OS/2. It supports a variety set of
network architectures that are encapsulated by SNA (APPN, HPR, frame
relay and ATM), TCP/IP, and implements state of the art algorithms
and software engineering.

DESCRIPTION
NetDA/2 is an OS/2 network design and analysis tool that offers
network planners the ability to manage changes to the network prior
to actual implementation in the live network.
TCP/IP support has been added to help in the placement of Domain Name
Servers in the network. Also, you will be able to define a
standalone IP network, using a minimal network input with a single
service net node. The simulator has been updated to allow simulation
of TCP/IP network traffic models. In addition, NetDA/2 V1R5 will
generate a report of all of the TCP/IP routes tables in the network.
NetDA/2 V1R5 provides an additional enhancement to the converter that
converts Routing Table Generator (RTG) files into NetDA/2 format,
allowing an easier migration for RTG customers. A converter
enhancement for NETDA MVS will build the line type table following
the speed, duplex information given by the NETDA Version 2 Release 2
files, and fill for each link the corresponding line type. NCP line
data reports are being formatted in a way that can be entered easily
as input to a skeleton NCP generation process.
The Software Installer product is now being used by NetDA/2 for
installation, update and de-installation. This makes NetDA/2
configuration, installation and distribution (CID) compliant.
Network simulation will be provided with support for frame relay
traffic, IBM Nways (TM) (ATM) switch simulation, buffer sizes for
nodes, TGs, and multiple traffic models including TCP/IP. This will
give the user a better view of performance than the current modeling
techniques.
Year 2000
This product is year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with its
associated documentation, it is capable of correctly processing,
providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the 20th and
21st centuries, provided all other products, (for example, software,
hardware, and firmware) used with the product properly exchange date
data with it.
PRODUCT POSITIONING
NetDA/2 V1R5 is an OS/2-based network topology design tool that
provides support for SNA subarea, SNA APPN, APPN HPR, 3745 and
3746-900 NCP Version 6 and NCP Version 7 frame relay, and TCP/IP
networks.
NetDA/2 provides the network design and support departments with
route control functions similar to those found in NETDA V2R2. With
support of route windowing and ordering, the ability to exclude
certain nodes and TGs from routes through the use of exclusion lists
and the ability to select restricted subnetworks, NETDA V2R2 users
can now migrate to NetDA/2 V1R5 and have similar, yet extended
capabilities. The conversion from MVS NETDA is enhanced to build the
line type table following the speed and line type information given
by NETDA V2R2 files for each link and corresponding line type.
NetDA/2 V1R5 provides similar capabilities for Routing Table
Generator (RTG) customers to assist in migration.
As you begin to use the network topology design capabilities of
NetDA/2 V1R5 to assist in fine tuning your networks' performance and
to migrate to APPN, APPN HPR, frame relay, or TCP/IP networks, the
interface to NPM and the enhanced two-way interface to NTA are of
significant value. This product synergy is in response to customer
requirements and will result in a network that is well-balanced among
performance, availability and cost.
NetDA/2's introduction of a network simulation ability for different
traffic models including, APPN, APPN HPR, ATM, frame relay and TCP/IP
will assist in more accurately understanding network performance.
NetDA/2 V1R5 provides a functionally equivalent product with NETDA
V2R2 for MVS, plus the ability to perform true network topology
design.
EDUCATION SUPPORT
The appropriate product curriculum will be updated, as necessary, to
