New packaging for BookManager(R) workstation BUILD products and
BookManager BookServer has simplified ordering and added flexibility.
You can now order either the BUILD products or BookServer by
providing a single number for each regardless of the operating
platform or required languages. Distributed as separate packages on
CD-ROM or electronically downloaded from the Internet, each package
contains translations for all languages supported.
BookManager BUILD and BookManager BookServer are members of the
BookManager family used to build and read softcopy publications.
The BookManager BUILD package contains the following products:
o IBM BookManager BUILD/2, Version 2.1
o IBM BookManager BUILD SGML for OS/2(R), Version 2.1
o IBM BookManager Index Utility for OS/2, Version 2.1
o Language dictionaries for building books in multiple languages
Each license of the BookManager BUILD product allows you to install
either BUILD/2 or BUILD SGML in the language of your choice.
Additional licenses are required if you need more than one BUILD
product or language. A corrective service diskette for BUILD/2,
Version 2.1 is available if you currently have BUILD/2, Version 2.0.
BookManager BUILD/2, Version 2.1 now supports:
o Microsoft Word 7.0 (Word for Windows+ 95)
o FrameMaker 5.0
o Table caption alignment
BookManager BUILD SGML for OS/2, Version 2.1 now supports:
o Building graphics specified as URLs on the HTML IMG tag
o Building graphics from any element that references the graphic as
an entity
o Table caption alignment
BookManager BookServer for World Wide Web for OS/2 has been enhanced
to provide translations for Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and
Traditional Chinese languages.

DESCRIPTION
The past several years have seen a dramatic growth in the use of the
Internet as a medium for electronic publishing. With IBM's
BookManager BUILD and Bookserver for OS/2, you can create and serve
entire libraries of documents to your own internal corporate network
and to Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) browsers connected to the
World Wide Web. BookManager's cross-platform compatibility makes it
the ideal solution for any business to use to serve up books
internally or on the web.
PUBLICATIONS
All product related publications included softcopy with product.
Displayable Softcopy Publications: IBM BookManager publications are
offered in displayable softcopy format on the same media type as the
basic machine-readable material. These displayable manuals can be
used with the BookManager READ licensed programs in any of the
supported environments. Terms and conditions for use of the
machine-readable files are shipped with the files.

Hardware Requirements
BUILD/2, Version 2.1
o Any system unit capable of running IBM OS/2 Version 2.11 or OS/2
Warp Version 3.0. A 486SX at 33MHz or higher is recommended.
o Any display monitor that is compatible with the operating system
o Any pointing device supported by OS/2
o A CD-ROM device
o 4MB of RAM in addition to the storage required by OS/2
o 5MB of hard-disk drive storage in addition to the storage required
by OS/2
o A temporary file space of 5 times the size of the word processor
file you are currently building
BUILD SGML, Version 2.1
o Any system unit capable of running IBM OS/2 Version 2.11 or OS/2
Warp Version 3.0. A 486SX at 33MHz or higher is recommended.
o Any display monitor compatible with the operating system
o Any pointing device supported by OS/2
o A CD-ROM device
o 12MB of RAM in addition to the storage required by OS/2
o 20MB of hard-disk drive storage in addition to the storage
required by OS/2

are currently building
Bookshelf Index Utility for OS/2, Version 2.1: The Bookshelf Index
Utility for OS/2 is shipped on the BookManager BUILD CD-ROM. It may
be installed on the same machine as the BUILD, or on a different
machine. The following describes the requirements for installing and
using this utility.
o Any system unit capable of running IBM OS/2 Version 2.11 or
OS/2 Warp Version 3. A 486SX at 33MHz or higher is recommended.
o Any display monitor compatible with the operating system
o Any pointing device supported by OS/2
o A CD-ROM device
o 12MB of RAM in addition to the storage required by OS/2
o A total of 24MB combined RAM and swapper space is recommended.
o 40MB of hard-disk drive storage in addition to the storage
required by OS/2
BookServer for World Wide Web for OS/2
o A personal computer capable of running IBM OS/2 Warp Version 3.0
o A display device supported by the operating system
o A CD-ROM device
o A pointing device supported by the operating system
o 16MB (minimum) of RAM. 24-32MB is recommended.
o 10MB of available hard-disk drive storage (after installation)

Planning Information
BookManager workstation BUILD products and BookManager BookServer are
distributed on CD-ROM or they can be downloaded from the Internet.
Product information on BookManager products as well as ordering
information and downloading links are available on the BookManager
Home Page. The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the BookManager
Home Page is http://booksrv2.raleigh.ibm.com, one of several entry
points for BookManager products.
Hypertext fields on the home page include links for product and
ordering information. When ordering information is selected, the
Product Download WWW Server will give you instructions on how to
unpack and execute the Electronic Showcase tool. If you have not
previously run Electronic Showcase or CD Showcase(TM), you will be
asked to specify your country so that the following product
information can be presented in a suitable language:
o General ordering instructions
- Phone numbers for order centers in each country
- Electronic Showcase and product support information
o License Information for the product
o Registration Information including the facility to generate a
Product Registration Number (PRN)
Packaging: IBM BookManager BUILD and BookServer for World Wide Web
for OS/2 are distributed in two separate packages -- one for BUILD
and for the BookServer for World Wide Web for OS/2, Version 2.1, each

Security, Auditability, and Control
There are no security or auditability features in IBM BookManager
BUILD and BookServer for World Wide Web for OS/2.
User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
appropriate controls in application systems and communication
facilities.

package to make a single copy of the program media and printed

Licensing:
The programs described in this announcement are licensed under the
terms and conditions of the IBM International Program License
Agreement. A copy of the agreement is included in the program
package.
Additional License: Proof of Entitlement must be acquired.
Software Advantage for Workstations-Upgrade Protection: The
announced program is eligible as an entitled upgrade. Entitled
customers will be provided with a no-charge program package and a
Proof of Entitlement authorizing right to copy equal to the number of
programs protected. Shipment will follow general availability.
Variable Charges Apply: No
Limited Warranty: Yes
Program Services: Program services will be available until
February 28, 1998. The statement of service included with the
program describes this service.
Support Line: The Personal Systems Support line applies.
Getting Started Period: A 60-day Getting Started Period is provided
by the Personal Systems Support Line for the first license within a
site, location, or centralized help desk. The 60-day period begins
with the first call to the Support Line.
Volume Orders: For information regarding volume orders, contact your

The additional license and maintenance part numbers included in this
announcement are eligible for discounting under the terms of the

Program Transfer: The program is fully transferable.
