  89. OVERVIEW  DESCRIPTION
  90.           ATTACHPAK FOR OS/2 WARP CONNECT
  91.           AttachPak for OS/2 Warp Connect offers the following advanced
  92.           functions:
  93.           o   PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS/3270 FOR OS/2 -- IEEE 802.2 ENTRY LEVEL
  94.               -- provides 3270 entry level emulator functions to personal
  95.               computers using OS/2 Warp Connect Version 3 and allows seamless
  96.               integration of your personal computer and 3270 host environments
  97.               using the LAN IEEE 802.2 interface.  This entry-level emulator
  98.               provides a subset of the full-function product, Personal
  99.               Communications/3270 for OS/2, while preserving the same basic
  100.               look and feel.
  101.                      In a single, easy-to-install 32-bit package, Personal
  102.               Communications/3270 for OS/2 -- IEEE 802.2 Entry Level provides
  103.               connectivity to an S/390 (R) host.
  104.           o   COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER/2 SNA APPLICATION ENVIRONMENT --
  105.               introduces workstation users to the world of SNA network
  106.               communications.  It provides APPC and CPI-C APIs over LAN

  130.               distributed computing.
  131.                      IBM DCE for OS/2 interoperates with the IBM DCE for AIX
  132.               (R) and other OSF Distributed Computing Environment compliant
  133.               services.  The IBM DCE Client for OS/2 consists of the core
  134.               services, specified by the OSF DCE architecture necessary to
  135.               execute a secure distributed application.  These core services
  136.               include remote procedure call, security, threads, distributed
  137.               time, and naming.
  138.                      Customers who want to take advantage of the benefits that
  139.               distributed computing provides can use tools provided with DCE to
  140.               develop and run applications on a distributed system.  The tools,
  141.               such as remote procedure call and threads, assist in the
  142.               development of an application.  The services, such as directory
  143.               service, security service, and distributed time service, provide
  144.               the support required in a distributed system analogous to the
  145.               support an operating system provides in a centralized system.
  146.                      IBM DCE for OS/2 provides interoperability and portability
  147.               across heterogeneous platforms.  The DCE architecture allows for
  148.               different operating systems and hardware platforms to
  149.               interoperate.  Using DCE, a process running on one computer can
  150.               interoperate with a process on a second computer even when the
  151.               hardware and software are different.
  152.           o   IBM NETVIEW DISTRIBUTION MANAGER START UP FOR OS/2 -- allows LAN
  153.               workstation users to connect to a NetView DM/2 server and
  154.               automatically download and install a NetView DM/2 Extended Change
  155.               Control (CC) client separately licensed onto their systems.
  156.                      NetView DM/2 is IBM's strategic electronic software and
  157.               distribution solution for distributing on an OS/2 platform
  158.               through NetBIOS to multiple client environments.  NetView DM/2
  159.               provides software distribution, data distribution, and change
  160.               control in a client/server environment from an OS/2 platform.
  161.           o   ANYNET SOCKETS FOR OS/2 -- provides the following multiprotocol
  162.               access node combinations:
  163.               -   Sockets over SNA
  164.               -   Sockets over IPX
  165.               -   Sockets over NetBIOS
  166.                      Through the AnyNet function, you may add IBM TCP/IP
  167.               Sockets applications to your existing SNA, IPX, and/or NetBIOS

  169.               can use most Sockets applications, such as FTP, TELNET, and AFS**

  195.               Collection Facility that enables the remote collection of
  196.               performance data by SPM/2 (full license), for system monitoring

  211.           o   MOBILE FILE SYNC (MFS) -- supports mobility of OS/2 Warp Connect
  212.               clients.
  213.                      MFS allows users of Warp Connect to disconnect from the
  214.               LAN Server 4.0 server or Windows NT server and still have access
  215.               to server files.  Warp Connect clients can be either LAN
  216.               Requester or OS/2 Peer clients.  Users can read or modify
  217.               existing files, create new files and directories, or delete
  218.               existing ones.  Reconnecting to the server automatically updates
  219.               the server with any new files or directories added.  It also
  220.               updates changes to existing files performed at the client, and
  221.               provides extensive conflict detection and resolution of any files
  222.               changed on either the server or the client.  MFS is run from the
  223.               client only and does not require any changes to the server.
  224.                      Intermittent network failures are transparent to LAN
  225.               Requester or OS/2 Peer users using MFS.  This is especially
  226.               valuable for unreliable or low-speed connections.  For example,
  227.               wireless devices such as infrared (IR) and radio frequency (RF)
  228.               may have their client/server connection temporarily interrupted
  229.               if the client moves out of the device range.  If infrared direct
  230.               access (IRDA) devices are used for client/server connection, the
  231.               connection can be temporarily interrupted when someone walks into
  232.               the direct path between the transmitter and the receiver.  The

  239.               MFS program protects against this type of temporary disconnection
  240.               by caching files from the server to the client when a connection
  241.               is available and accessing the cached version of files when
  242.               disconnected from the server.
  243.                      In addition, MFS provides DBStash, a stashing utility to
  244.               explicitly cache useful data in anticipation of disconnection.
  245.               DBStash maintains a database of the files and directories a user
  246.               wishes to cache and provides a GUI to allow the user to add and
  247.               delete entries to the stash database.
