OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
ATTACHPAK FOR OS/2 WARP CONNECT
AttachPak for OS/2 Warp Connect offers the following advanced
functions:
o PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS/3270 FOR OS/2 -- IEEE 802.2 ENTRY LEVEL
-- provides 3270 entry level emulator functions to personal
computers using OS/2 Warp Connect Version 3 and allows seamless
integration of your personal computer and 3270 host environments
using the LAN IEEE 802.2 interface. This entry-level emulator
provides a subset of the full-function product, Personal
Communications/3270 for OS/2, while preserving the same basic
look and feel.
In a single, easy-to-install 32-bit package, Personal
Communications/3270 for OS/2 -- IEEE 802.2 Entry Level provides
connectivity to an S/390 (R) host.
o COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER/2 SNA APPLICATION ENVIRONMENT --
introduces workstation users to the world of SNA network
communications. It provides APPC and CPI-C APIs over LAN
connections on workstations configured as APPN (R) End Nodes
(LU6.2).
The LUA consists of system software and user interfaces
that supply input/output service routines to support
communication using SNA LU0, LU1, LU2, and LU3.
o IBM DIAL-IN ACCESS TO LANS CLIENT FOR OS/2 (DIALS CLIENT) --
works with the IBM 8235 server to provide remote PC users access
to applications that they normally access from workstations
directly attached to a token ring or LAN. The DIALS Client
supports PCs or PS/2s operating with OS/2. With support for
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 3
multiple protocols, and with high-performance
filtering/compression techniques, excellent performance can be
achieved when addressing a variety of applications remotely.
o IBM DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING ENVIRONMENT FOR OS/2 (DCE FOR OS/2) --
a set of IBM services and tools that support the creation, use,
and maintenance of distributed applications in a heterogeneous
computing environment in accordance with IBM's Open Blueprint for
distributed computing.
IBM DCE for OS/2 interoperates with the IBM DCE for AIX
(R) and other OSF Distributed Computing Environment compliant
services. The IBM DCE Client for OS/2 consists of the core
services, specified by the OSF DCE architecture necessary to
execute a secure distributed application. These core services
include remote procedure call, security, threads, distributed
time, and naming.
Customers who want to take advantage of the benefits that
distributed computing provides can use tools provided with DCE to
develop and run applications on a distributed system. The tools,
such as remote procedure call and threads, assist in the
development of an application. The services, such as directory
service, security service, and distributed time service, provide
the support required in a distributed system analogous to the
support an operating system provides in a centralized system.
IBM DCE for OS/2 provides interoperability and portability
across heterogeneous platforms. The DCE architecture allows for
different operating systems and hardware platforms to
interoperate. Using DCE, a process running on one computer can
interoperate with a process on a second computer even when the
hardware and software are different.
o IBM NETVIEW DISTRIBUTION MANAGER START UP FOR OS/2 -- allows LAN
workstation users to connect to a NetView DM/2 server and
automatically download and install a NetView DM/2 Extended Change
Control (CC) client separately licensed onto their systems.
NetView DM/2 is IBM's strategic electronic software and
distribution solution for distributing on an OS/2 platform
through NetBIOS to multiple client environments. NetView DM/2
provides software distribution, data distribution, and change
control in a client/server environment from an OS/2 platform.
o ANYNET SOCKETS FOR OS/2 -- provides the following multiprotocol
access node combinations:
- Sockets over SNA
- Sockets over IPX
- Sockets over NetBIOS
Through the AnyNet function, you may add IBM TCP/IP
Sockets applications to your existing SNA, IPX, and/or NetBIOS
networks without adding a separate TCP/IP network. OS/2 users
can use most Sockets applications, such as FTP, TELNET, and AFS**
across their SNA, IPX, and/or NetBIOS networks without changing
the applications or modifying hardware.
o SYSTEM PERFORMANCE MONITOR/2 (SPM/2) SINGLE SYSTEM VERSION --
enables monitoring of system resources in the single station,
where the product is running. SPM/2 enables the collection of
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 4
performance data associated with critical resources which
include:
- CPU
- Memory
- Files
- FAT cache
- HPFS cache
- Physical disk
- Printer
SPM/2 also collects data on performance and the operation
of OS/2 LAN Server 4.0 Requesters.
Details on process and thread usage of system resources
are also provided.
SPM/2 Single System Version includes the SPM/2 Distributed
Collection Facility that enables the remote collection of
performance data by SPM/2 (full license), for system monitoring
at the LAN administration level.
SPM/2 highlights include:
- Recording support
- Graphing facility
- Report facility
- Memory analyzer
- Directory analyzer
- Application program interfaces (API)
SPM/2, in cooperation with the SPM/2 API, also supports
the collection of performance counters and timers implemented and
registered by OS/2 user applications.
An application developer can optimize the performance of
the application and manage its performance in the production
environment.
o MOBILE FILE SYNC (MFS) -- supports mobility of OS/2 Warp Connect
clients.
MFS allows users of Warp Connect to disconnect from the
LAN Server 4.0 server or Windows NT server and still have access
to server files. Warp Connect clients can be either LAN
Requester or OS/2 Peer clients. Users can read or modify
existing files, create new files and directories, or delete
existing ones. Reconnecting to the server automatically updates
the server with any new files or directories added. It also
updates changes to existing files performed at the client, and
provides extensive conflict detection and resolution of any files
changed on either the server or the client. MFS is run from the
client only and does not require any changes to the server.
Intermittent network failures are transparent to LAN
Requester or OS/2 Peer users using MFS. This is especially
valuable for unreliable or low-speed connections. For example,
wireless devices such as infrared (IR) and radio frequency (RF)
may have their client/server connection temporarily interrupted
if the client moves out of the device range. If infrared direct
access (IRDA) devices are used for client/server connection, the
connection can be temporarily interrupted when someone walks into
the direct path between the transmitter and the receiver. The
DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 5
MFS program protects against this type of temporary disconnection
by caching files from the server to the client when a connection
is available and accessing the cached version of files when
disconnected from the server.
In addition, MFS provides DBStash, a stashing utility to
explicitly cache useful data in anticipation of disconnection.
DBStash maintains a database of the files and directories a user
wishes to cache and provides a GUI to allow the user to add and
delete entries to the stash database.
LOTUS NOTES DESKTOP CLIENT
