ABSTRACT The IBM Developer Connection Device Driver Kit for OS/2 (R)
(Developer Connection DDK) will make development on OS/2 easier for
you. Developer Connection DDK is the newest addition to the IBM
Developer Connection program, which is a complete source of software
technology, tools, and information to help you meet all of your OS/2
development needs.
Developer Connection DDK, an annual membership program,
delivers all the necessary tools for development of new device
drivers for your 32-bit OS/2 operating platform. This CD-based
offering enables rapid development of device drivers for your
personal computer hardware by providing many complete device driver
sources, test aids, and information from IBM's award-winning OS/2 and
related operating systems.
If you are an Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV), software
firm, or OS/2 developer providing support for personal computer
hardware manufacturers, Developer Connection DDK will help you to
significantly reduce your device driver development effort and
time-to-market. For one full year after you license Developer
Connection DDK, you will receive all future generally available
releases of Developer Connection DDK at no additional cost.
With your license to Developer Connection DDK, you will also
receive the Developer Connection for OS/2, which is delivered four
times a year. This program includes a large array of developer tools
and samples. It allows you to preview the future by introducing beta
versions and demonstrations of operating systems, tools, and new
technologies from IBM and IBM partners. A vast collection of
technical information is provided online and a quarterly newsletter
delivers timely articles and insight on directions for OS/2,
development products and techniques, and upcoming events. The
Developer Connection for OS/2 also includes the Software Shopper CD,
which is a set of encrypted development products available for
purchase.
Technical support for Developer Connection DDK is available
electronically by the Driver Development Support Center. Technical
assistance for The Developer Connection for OS/2 is available

information, tools, and sample code enables software developers on
the 32-bit OS/2 platform to fully exploit the operating system
functionality.
The Developer Connection for OS/2 CD delivers the latest
version of the Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 (which includes the
Multimedia Presentation Manager (R) Toolkit), other toolkits, and
various productivity tools, development tools, and sample code. A
search engine is provided for easy navigation through the tremendous
amounts of information and code on the CD.
The CD also provides pre-release software that allows the
developer to create user environments to test and develop software.
Pre-release versions of OS/2 and relative operating systems (with
limited licenses) are provided to foster early development and
testing, such as testing your device drivers on new platforms.
Pre-release versions of development and productivity tools are also
provided. Some examples of these tools are:

CD may change periodically. The pre-release code may be modified
substantially before general availability. IBM does not guarantee
that any of the programs contained in the pre-release section will
ever be made generally available.
The CD includes the very latest softcopy documentation on OS/2
from IBM; documentation on the various pre-release products on the CD

CONNECTION NEWS will also be available in displayable softcopy format
on the Developer Connection for OS/2 CD.
THE DEVELOPER CONNECTION FOR OS/2 SOFTWARE SHOPPER: The Developer
Connection for OS/2 Software Shopper is a CD-based software catalog.
Using innovative and sophisticated encryption technology, the
Software Shopper provides product information and guides you through
the ordering process. You can shop for a variety of software
products, purchase a product, receive a "key" (password), "unlock"
the product, and install it directly from the CD.
Additional information about this Developer Connection for
OS/2 element is provided on the Developer Connection for OS/2
Software Shopper CD.

PROGRAM SERVICES: Developer support is available to all customers
licensing the IBM Developer Connection Device Driver Kit for OS/2.
Developer support (technical assistance) encompasses DDK usage
and many aspects of device driver development in general. Developers
are expected to have device driver development experience or be
willing to invest the time necessary to work through most of their
own questions and problems. Developer support is not intended to
provide an education service. It is intended, however, to answer
specific questions after the device driver developer has made a
reasonable effort to obtain an answer using available information.
Technical support for device driver development is provided
via a bulletin board system (BBS) known as the "DUDE", by the IBM
Driver Development Support Center (DDSC). Developers are encouraged
to use the DDSC to obtain support through sending in their own
questions and reviewing the question and answer history database
which can be easily downloaded for review off-line.
Developers interested in using the DDSC should call
407-982-3217 via modem to register and to access the support system.
To obtain a brief message of the services available, developers can
call 407-982-4239.
Technical assistance for The Developer Connection for OS/2 is
provided by submitting questions on an electronic forum and receiving
responses directly from IBM developers. Access to the forum on
CompuServe (OS2DF2) will be available to all Developer Connection for
OS/2 members until membership expiration (one year duration).
The DEVCON CFORUM is on the OS/2 BBS under TalkLink, which is
a feature under the IBMLink (TM) Commercial Services. Customers can
call 800-547-1283.
Internet users may address their questions or comments to
devcon@vnet.ibm.com.
Support for a specific release of the IBM Developer Connection
Device Driver Kit for OS/2 will be available until 30 days after the
release of the subsequent CDROM. General device driver support will
be available until discontinued by IBM upon three months' written
notification on the DDSC System.
Additional support is available depending on the licensee's
participation in certain IBM programs, such as the Worldwide
Developer Assistance Program.
