  4. ABSTRACT          IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 offers
  5.            schools the power of networking while insulating them from the
  6.            complexities involved in a local area network (LAN) environment.  It
  7.            facilitates and enhances the use of computer networks from the office
  8.            to the classroom.  IBM Classroom LAN Administration System
  9.            Version 1.50 combines software and documentation to help manage
  10.            courseware and other applications in a LAN environment.  Office
  11.            personnel can easily access word processors, spreadsheets and other
  12.            productivity tools maintained on the network.  The teachers are able
  13.            to review student data on line as opposed to collecting individual
  14.            diskettes.
  15.                   Some of the programs in this announcement also contain NetWare
  16.            3.12 from IBM.  The combined offerings of IBM Classroom LAN
  17.            Administration System Version 1.50 and NetWare 3.12 from IBM are
  18.            available only to educational institutions qualifying for IBM's
  19.            National Education License Fees (NELF).
  20.                   IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 offers
  21.            remote printer support.  Users can direct their printed output to not
  22.            only any printstation on the LAN, but also to any other IBM Classroom
  23.            LAN Administration Version 1.50 or SchoolView (TM) server's
  24.            printstations.
  25.                   Version 1.50 contains the IBM Anti-Virus/DOS product, which
  26.            helps protect the LAN from harm caused by viruses and is compatible
  27.            with Microsoft** Windows  (1) Version 3.1 and OS/2 (R) Version 2.1.
  28.                   IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 is
  29.            compatible with commercially-available network mail packages and
  30.            commercially-available Dial In/Dial Out software and NetWare** from
  31.            IBM Asynchronous Communications Server (NACS) modem pooling software.
  32.            Communications around the LAN are enhanced by use of several
  33.            commercially-available and popular e-mail packages for which IBM
  34.            Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 provides
  35.            installation assistance.  These include Da Vinci eMail, Lotus
  36.            cc:Mail, and Microsoft Mail.  Customers who use IBM Classroom LAN
  37.            Administration System Version 1.50 with NetWare 3.12 from IBM will be
  38.            able to take advantage of the First Mail for DOS package (included
  39.            with NetWare) for e-mail purposes.

  85. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  86.            SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
  87.            IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 simplifies the
  88.            installation of new IBM courseware and non-IBM courseware
  89.            applications and tracks student activity through IBM courseware
  90.            products.
  91.                   Security features are provided for the data and programs
  92.            stored on the server.  Version 1.50 allows the sharing of resources
  93.            such as printers across LANS.  Print jobs can be directed to any
  94.            printer on the LAN, even printers on bridged servers that have IBM
  95.            Classroom LAN Administration System Version  1.50 or SchoolView
  96.            Version 1.00 installed.
  97.                   Access to the courseware and the utilities is simplified
  98.            through the use of menus specifically designed for student, teacher,
  99.            office personnel, network administrators and system operators.
  100.            USER PRODUCTIVITY
  101.            IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 allows the
  102.            network administrator to enroll all students for the school year and
  103.            enter additions and deletions using files, versus inputting each name
  104.            manually.
  105.                   Version 1.50 allows teachers to share files with their
  106.            students and manage print queues on the network and on other servers
  107.            in the LAN.
  108.            INVESTMENT PROTECTION
  109.            IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 licensing
  110.            agreement is beneficial to the customer by allowing use on a LAN
  111.            consisting of 50 or 100 machines, depending on the license.  The
  112.            server can contain a variety of network software offerings accessible
  113.            to all authorized users as opposed to licensing single copies for
  114.            stand-alone workstations.
  115.                   The customer investment in IBM Classroom LAN Administration
  116.            System Versions 1.11, 1.20, 1.30, 1.31, 1.40, and 1.41 is further
  117.            protected by the ability to upgrade these previous versions to
  118.            Version 1.50.
  119.                   All versions of IBM Classroom LAN Administration System can
  120.            also be upgraded to the SchoolView family (if desired).
  121.                   The IBM Anti-Virus/DOS program further protects the customer
  122.            investment by offering protection against viruses.
  123.            PRODUCT POSITIONING
  124.            IBM Classroom LAN Administration System is a network management
  125.            program.  It is easily installed using the program diskettes and the
  126.            installation guide.
  127.                   IBM Classroom LAN Administration System can be used in a local
  128.            area network setting at any level -- elementary, middle, high school,
  129.            vocational school, or college.  It can be used to manage courseware
  130.            delivery to students and also to administer software used by
  131.            teachers, administrators, staff, and students.

  185.            DR-DOS for system startup and NetWare installation, unless there are
  186.            non-DOS partitions to be removed.  Use of DR-DOS for this purpose is
  187.            supported and documented in the IBM Classroom LAN Administration
  188.            System 1.50 installation guide.  This fulfills the server requirement
  189.            for a DOS license, but the server must have installed a licensed copy
  190.            of each DOS version used by any workstation on the LAN.
  191.            WORKSTATIONS:

  194.            PLANNING INFORMATION
  195.            CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES:  The customer must provide the minimum
  196.            hardware and software environment to operate the IBM Classroom LAN
  197.            Administration System Version 1.50, to install and run application
  198.            programs, and to perform backup procedures.
  199.            K-12 PERSONAL COMPUTER INSTALLATION SERVICES (PCIS):  K-12 Personal
  200.            Computer Installation Services (PCIS) to install these products is
  201.            available to K-12 institutions for a fee.  Contact your EduQuest
  202.            representative for additional information.
  203.            TECHNICAL TELEPHONE SERVICES:  K-12 Institutions may obtain this
  204.            service by signing a TTS agreement for an annual school fee.  Contact

  230.            SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
  231.                   The IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 makes
  232.            use of the security and auditability features available in NetWare
  233.            from IBM Versions 2.2, 3.11 and/or NetWare 3.12 from IBM, in addition
  234.            to its own built-in security features.  The system administrator can
  235.            access the complete system; the teachers can access their own files
  236.            and their own students' files; and the students can access only their
  237.            own files.
  238.                   User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and
  239.            implementation of security features, administrative procedures and
  240.            appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  241.            facilities.
  242.                   IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 controls
  243.            the maximum number of machines in a LAN that may be concurrently
  244.            signed on to each individual application program installed on the
  245.            same server machine as, and running under the control of, the IBM
  246.            Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 program.  The system
  247.            administrator can "set" the maximum number of concurrently-signed-on
  248.            machines, individually for each application program.
  249.                   It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the
  250.            customer has acquired the appropriate number of licenses for each
  251.            application program to authorize the  "maximum number" the customer
  252.            "sets" for that application program.
  253.                   In the case of IBM courseware programs and other IBM programs
  254.            offered and acquired under a LAN pack license, each LAN pack license
  255.            for such a program authorizes concurrent use of the program by up to
  256.            a specified number of machines, including the server machine, in a
  257.            LAN.  The applicable maximum is specified in the program's license
  258.            Information.  The maximum number to be "set" for an IBM licensed
  259.            program would be the applicable LAN pack license maximum, unless the
  260.            customer acquires a second license for that program for use on that
  261.            LAN; then the "setting" should be twice the applicable maximum for
  262.            one LAN pack license.  For IBM programs not offered, or not acquired,
  263.            under a LAN pack license, the maximum number to be "set" must not
  264.            exceed the number of individual licenses of each program that the
  265.            customer has acquired for use on machines in that LAN.
  266.                   In the case of non-IBM programs, the customer may use this
  267.            "maximum number" control capability of IBM Classroom LAN
  268.            Administration System Version 1.50 to ensure that the customer
  269.            adheres to similar restrictions contained in non-IBM
  270.            supplier/publisher license agreements.
  271. ORDERING   ORDERING INFORMATION
  272.                   Orders for new licenses and upgrades will be accepted now.
  273.            First shipment of customer orders is planned to begin May 31, 1994.
  274.            Customers may request an arrival date on or after June 7, 1994.
  275.                   For each product or upgrade ordered, specify the appropriate
  276.            program name, part number, and quantity.
  277.                   K-12 institutions orders may be submitted to the local
  278.            EduQuest marketing representative until June 30, 1994.  Thereafter,
  279.            orders should be placed with a K-12 Education Certified Remarketer at
  280.            prices established by the remarketer.
  281.                   The available order types are:
  282.            o   Program Package -- program code with documentation
  283.            o   Program Package Upgrade -- program code with documentation
  284.            o   Documentation -- Separately available documentation.
  285.            PROGRAM UPGRADE:  The program package upgrade option allows currently
  286.            licensed users of IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Versions
  287.            1.11, 1.20, 1.30, 1.31, 1.40, or 1.41 to obtain the new Version 1.50
  288.            for a program upgrade charge.  The program upgrade to Version 1.50
  289.            will be available May 31, 1994.  Orders will be accepted now.
  290.                   These upgrades will be available through K-12 Education
  291.            Remarketers.
  292.                   The remarketer will require a Proof of License for each
  293.            upgrade ordered.  The original Proof of License is the front inside
  294.            cover page of the users guide.
  295.                   Until June 30, 1994, customers may also order upgrades through
  296.            the EduQuest branch office using the IBM Personal Computer/System
  297.            Program IBM US Upgrade and Certification Order Form.
  298.            TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  299.            TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR EXISTING IBM PRODUCTS:  Terms and conditions
  300.            for NetWare 3.12 from IBM, included with some products in this
  301.            announcement, are as stated in Software Announcement 293-542, dated
  302.            September 28, 1993.
  303.            LICENSING:  IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 and
  304.            its upgrades are licensed under the terms and conditions of the IBM
  305.            Program License Agreement.  A copy of the agreement is included in
  306.            the program package.
  307.                   IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 is
  308.            available under a 50-machine or 100-machine license as distinguished
  309.            by the IBM program part number licensed.  The additional terms and
  310.            conditions in the license information specify that IBM Classroom LAN
  311.            Administration System may be used only on a single machine or,
  312.            alternatively, on up to the maximum number of machines specified for
  313.            the license acquired (50 or 100) when the program's data files are
  314.            stored in only one of the machines (designated as the server machine)
  315.            and the program is running under the control of, and all the machines
  316.            are interconnected by, a network program.  A copy of the license
  317.            information is included in the program package.
  318.            WARRANTY:  Program:  Yes    Media:  Three months
  319.            PROGRAM SERVICES:  Central Service will be available until
  320.            May 31, 1995.  The statement of service included in the program
  321.            package describes this service.
  322.            VOLUME DISCOUNT:  Not applicable
  323.            K-12 PERSONAL COMPUTER INSTALLATION SERVICES (PCIS):  The programs,
  324.            including upgrades,  in this announcement are classified as Class 3
  325.            System/Network Software for purposes of determining the applicable
  326.            PCIS charge for field installation by IBM when such billable
  327.            installation is ordered by the customer.
  328.            NATIONAL EDUCATION LICENSE FEE:  A National Education License Fee
  329.            (NELF) is available under the terms and conditions of the Educational
  330.            Allowance Attachment to the IBM Customer Agreement.  The NELF is not
  331.            subject to any further discount or allowance.
