TITLE IBM CLASSROOM LAN ADMINISTRATION SYSTEM VERSION 1.50
ABSTRACT IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 offers
schools the power of networking while insulating them from the
complexities involved in a local area network (LAN) environment. It
facilitates and enhances the use of computer networks from the office
to the classroom. IBM Classroom LAN Administration System
Version 1.50 combines software and documentation to help manage
courseware and other applications in a LAN environment. Office
personnel can easily access word processors, spreadsheets and other
productivity tools maintained on the network. The teachers are able
to review student data on line as opposed to collecting individual
diskettes.
Some of the programs in this announcement also contain NetWare
3.12 from IBM. The combined offerings of IBM Classroom LAN
Administration System Version 1.50 and NetWare 3.12 from IBM are
available only to educational institutions qualifying for IBM's
National Education License Fees (NELF).
IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 offers
remote printer support. Users can direct their printed output to not
only any printstation on the LAN, but also to any other IBM Classroom
LAN Administration Version 1.50 or SchoolView (TM) server's
printstations.
Version 1.50 contains the IBM Anti-Virus/DOS product, which
helps protect the LAN from harm caused by viruses and is compatible
with Microsoft** Windows (1) Version 3.1 and OS/2 (R) Version 2.1.
IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 is
compatible with commercially-available network mail packages and
commercially-available Dial In/Dial Out software and NetWare** from
IBM Asynchronous Communications Server (NACS) modem pooling software.
Communications around the LAN are enhanced by use of several
commercially-available and popular e-mail packages for which IBM
Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 provides
installation assistance. These include Da Vinci eMail, Lotus
cc:Mail, and Microsoft Mail. Customers who use IBM Classroom LAN
Administration System Version 1.50 with NetWare 3.12 from IBM will be
able to take advantage of the First Mail for DOS package (included
with NetWare) for e-mail purposes.

OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 simplifies the
installation of new IBM courseware and non-IBM courseware
applications and tracks student activity through IBM courseware
products.
Security features are provided for the data and programs
stored on the server. Version 1.50 allows the sharing of resources
such as printers across LANS. Print jobs can be directed to any
printer on the LAN, even printers on bridged servers that have IBM
Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 or SchoolView
Version 1.00 installed.
Access to the courseware and the utilities is simplified
through the use of menus specifically designed for student, teacher,
office personnel, network administrators and system operators.
USER PRODUCTIVITY
IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 allows the
network administrator to enroll all students for the school year and
enter additions and deletions using files, versus inputting each name
manually.
Version 1.50 allows teachers to share files with their
students and manage print queues on the network and on other servers
in the LAN.
INVESTMENT PROTECTION
IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 licensing
agreement is beneficial to the customer by allowing use on a LAN
consisting of 50 or 100 machines, depending on the license. The
server can contain a variety of network software offerings accessible
to all authorized users as opposed to licensing single copies for
stand-alone workstations.
The customer investment in IBM Classroom LAN Administration
System Versions 1.11, 1.20, 1.30, 1.31, 1.40, and 1.41 is further
protected by the ability to upgrade these previous versions to
Version 1.50.
All versions of IBM Classroom LAN Administration System can
also be upgraded to the SchoolView family (if desired).
The IBM Anti-Virus/DOS program further protects the customer
investment by offering protection against viruses.
PRODUCT POSITIONING
IBM Classroom LAN Administration System is a network management
program. It is easily installed using the program diskettes and the
installation guide.
IBM Classroom LAN Administration System can be used in a local
area network setting at any level -- elementary, middle, high school,
vocational school, or college. It can be used to manage courseware
delivery to students and also to administer software used by
teachers, administrators, staff, and students.
CUSTINFO EDUCATION SUPPORT
Customers can attend the Classroom Network Implementation
class in Atlanta, Georgia. This class is designed for district
coordinators and is fee-based.
Call EduQuest (TM) Education at 800-426-6034 for schedules and
enrollments.

SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
The IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 makes
use of the security and auditability features available in NetWare
from IBM Versions 2.2, 3.11 and/or NetWare 3.12 from IBM, in addition
to its own built-in security features. The system administrator can
access the complete system; the teachers can access their own files
and their own students' files; and the students can access only their
own files.
User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures and
appropriate controls in application systems and communication
facilities.
IBM Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 controls
the maximum number of machines in a LAN that may be concurrently
signed on to each individual application program installed on the
same server machine as, and running under the control of, the IBM
Classroom LAN Administration System Version 1.50 program. The system
administrator can "set" the maximum number of concurrently-signed-on
machines, individually for each application program.
It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the
customer has acquired the appropriate number of licenses for each
application program to authorize the "maximum number" the customer
"sets" for that application program.
In the case of IBM courseware programs and other IBM programs
offered and acquired under a LAN pack license, each LAN pack license
for such a program authorizes concurrent use of the program by up to
a specified number of machines, including the server machine, in a
LAN. The applicable maximum is specified in the program's license
Information. The maximum number to be "set" for an IBM licensed
program would be the applicable LAN pack license maximum, unless the
customer acquires a second license for that program for use on that
LAN; then the "setting" should be twice the applicable maximum for
one LAN pack license. For IBM programs not offered, or not acquired,
under a LAN pack license, the maximum number to be "set" must not
exceed the number of individual licenses of each program that the
customer has acquired for use on machines in that LAN.
In the case of non-IBM programs, the customer may use this
"maximum number" control capability of IBM Classroom LAN
Administration System Version 1.50 to ensure that the customer
adheres to similar restrictions contained in non-IBM
supplier/publisher license agreements.
