o A Time and Place/2 user can interact with the calendars of
OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS calendar users.
o A PROFS or OfficeVision/VM user can interact with the calendars
of Time and Place/2 and OfficeVision/MVS calendar users.
o An OfficeVision/MVS user can interact with the calendars of Time
and Place/2, PROFS and OfficeVision/VM calendar users.
In each case, calendar users see remote calendar information
in the user interface to which they are accustomed.
Additional Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2
enhancements include:
o APPC and RSCS connectivity to the OfficeVision/VM host calendar
environment, plus RSCS connectivity to the PROFS host calendar
environment.
o Support to connect remote Time and Place/2 Version 2 systems
using APPC over an SNA network.

OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION
BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
By providing Inter-connectivity and interoperability between hosts
and LAN, IBM Time and Place Connectivity/2 enables customers to do
real-time group scheduling of people across enterprises. Host and
LAN users are able to see and use calendar data belonging to users in
both environments, in the same interface to which they are
accustomed. Coordination of people is simple and automatic as users
are able to route meeting notices across different computing
platforms bi-directionally with no need to understand where other
users reside. As a result, customers can optimize host and LAN
platform investment and utilization over time, enabling better
decision-making on rightsizing and group scheduling solutions.
END USER PRODUCTIVITY
Together with Time and Place/2, Time and Place Connectivity/2 helps
make users more productive by eliminating unproductive tasks
associated with reserving time with other employees or reserving
group resources such as conference rooms, audio visual equipment or
company cars.
By giving users immediate access to other users' calendar
data, without retraining or the need to know platform information,
Time and Place Connectivity/2 and Time and Place/2 can keep users
productive in the midst of technology or personnel movements.
Time and Place Connectivity/2 provides for an orderly
transition and co-existence for customers who, over time, are moving
their users to a LAN environment. As new LAN-based users are added,
Time and Place/2 users are able to transparently interact with
existing OfficeVision/VM, PROFS or OfficeVision/MVS users to view,
free-time search, and update calendars.
INVESTMENT PROTECTION
Installing Time and Place Connectivity/2 is a good way to take
further advantage of investments in LAN equipment and operating
systems. Time and Place Connectivity/2 also works with customer
investments in host office and SNA networks. Time and Place
Connectivity/2 provides not only connectivity and interoperability
between host and LAN, but also between different host office
platforms such as OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS.
Customers who have invested in SNA networks may take advantage of the
Time and Place Connectivity/2 passthrough facility. The passthrough
facility allows remote Time and Place/2 users to interoperate via an
SNA network with or without a host OfficeVision (R) calendar
installed.
GROWTH ENABLEMENT
Time and Place Connectivity/2 supports LAN network growth in software
and hardware investments by providing the necessary host connectivity
to calendars. It enables the customer to selectively move
departments or project groups, for example, to accomplish movement to
a LAN-based system.
SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Time and Place Connectivity/2 provides a graphical administrative
window that lets network managers easily add, delete and update
routing access to the host-based calendar, and supports other
administrative functions like viewing logged messages and displaying
connectivity status.
Network managers can quickly and easily add, delete or update
nodes and monitors to ensure high system availability and
performance.
SYSTEM APPLICATION ARCHITECTURE (SAA)
Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 is an SAA-compliant
application. Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 uses the
following SAA common programming interfaces (CPI):
o Communication CPI from OS/2 Communication Manager
o Presentation Interface CPI. Time and Place Connectivity/2
Version 1.2 Administration complies with the CUA (TM) '91
Application Model graphical user interface.
PRODUCT POSITIONING
Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 is an OS/2 32-bit program
product that provides the ability to schedule people on other systems
or remote sites. Features include administration and routing
functions and interfaces to LAN and host calendars.
Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 is designed to allow
LAN and host calendar users to work with calendar data belonging to
users in different environments and with the Time and Place/2 client
user interface of their choice, for example, OS/2, Windows or DOS.
Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 extends the function
of Version 1.1 to include additional functional and usability
enhancements such as update capability and extends the support to the
PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS environments.
Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 gives customers a
choice by providing internodal group scheduling support. Users of
OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS may now also interoperate
with other calendar users on different host platforms. This includes
view, free-time search and update capability.
When used with Time and Place/2 Version 2, users may schedule
events, "to-do's," and resources using a graphical interface in an
OS/2, Windows or DOS environment. Time and Place Connectivity/2
supports gradual host-to-LAN migrations by allowing users to coexist
and to interoperate across OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and
OfficeVision/MVS environments.
Time and Place Connectivity/2 is differentiated in particular
by its internodal group scheduling support, maintenance of user
defined security levels, and real-time calendar update in all
supported environments.
Host and LAN users can view each other's calendars in their
native calendar format, eliminating the need to retrain or to be
aware of the location of other systems.
Time and Place Connectivity/2 supports customer investment in
today's technologies including OS/2 LAN, 32-bit machines, Mail
Gateways, LAN E-Mail and host office.
