  6. ABSTRACT          IBM Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1 Release 2
  7.            (5622-116) is a LAN-based bi-directional calendar connectivity
  8.            program.  This SAA (TM) OS/2 32 (TM)-bit program allows users of the
  9.            IBM Time and Place/2 time management product, as well as
  10.            OfficeVision/VM (TM) Version 1.1 and 1.2, PROFS (R) Version 2.2.3,
  11.            and OfficeVision/MVS (TM) Version 1.2 users to perform interactive
  12.            bi-directional view, free-time search, and calendar update operations
  13.            in the LAN, OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS environments.
  14.                   IBM Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 provides the
  15.            ability to connect the Time and Place/2, OfficeVision/VM,
  16.            OfficeVision/MVS and PROFS calendars in an "any to any" fashion.  For
  17.            example, by installing and configuring Time and Place Connectivity/2
  18.            Version 1.2, calendar interoperability occurs as follows:
  19.            o   A Time and Place/2 user can interact with the calendars of
  20.                OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS calendar users.
  21.            o   A PROFS or OfficeVision/VM user can interact with the calendars
  22.                of Time and Place/2 and OfficeVision/MVS calendar users.
  23.            o   An OfficeVision/MVS user can interact with the calendars of Time
  24.                and Place/2, PROFS and OfficeVision/VM calendar users.
  25.                   In each case, calendar users see remote calendar information
  26.            in the user interface to which they are accustomed.
  27.                   Additional Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2
  28.            enhancements include:
  29.            o   APPC and RSCS connectivity to the OfficeVision/VM host calendar
  30.                environment, plus RSCS connectivity to the PROFS host calendar
  31.                environment.
  32.            o   Support to connect remote Time and Place/2 Version 2 systems
  33.                using APPC over an SNA network.
  34.            o   Capability to connect the DBCS version of Time and Place/2 to the
  35.                OV/VM-ALS calendar system (Japanese only).
  36.                   Statement of General Direction:  The IBM Time and Place
  37.            Connectivity/2 product intends to provide view, free-time search and
  38.            update capability between the IBM Time and Place/2 product and IBM
  39.            OfficeVision/400 (TM).
  40.                   First Customer Shipment:  The first customer shipment of Time
  41.            and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 will be by December 17, 1993, to
  42.            a selected set of customers.  These customers will participate in a
  43.            program designed to validate IBM's achievement of the quality
  44.            objectives for IBM Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 in a
  45.            variety of production environments.  When these customers confirm
  46.            that IBM has achieved its quality objectives, IBM will announce the
  47.            planned availability date and ordering information.

  67. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  68.            BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
  69.            By providing Inter-connectivity and interoperability between hosts
  70.            and LAN, IBM Time and Place Connectivity/2 enables customers to do
  71.            real-time group scheduling of people across enterprises.  Host and
  72.            LAN users are able to see and use calendar data belonging to users in
  73.            both environments, in the same interface to which they are
  74.            accustomed.  Coordination of people is simple and automatic as users
  75.            are able to route meeting notices across different computing
  76.            platforms bi-directionally with no need to understand where other
  77.            users reside.  As a result, customers can optimize host and LAN
  78.            platform investment and utilization over time, enabling better
  79.            decision-making on rightsizing and group scheduling solutions.
  80.            END USER PRODUCTIVITY
  81.            Together with Time and Place/2, Time and Place Connectivity/2 helps
  82.            make users more productive by eliminating unproductive tasks
  83.            associated with reserving time with other employees or reserving
  84.            group resources such as conference rooms, audio visual equipment or
  85.            company cars.
  86.                   By giving users immediate access to other users' calendar
  87.            data, without retraining or the need to know platform information,
  88.            Time and Place Connectivity/2 and Time and Place/2 can keep users
  89.            productive in the midst of technology or personnel movements.
  90.                   Time and Place Connectivity/2 provides for an orderly
  91.            transition and co-existence for customers who, over time, are moving
  92.            their users to a LAN environment.  As new LAN-based users are added,
  93.            Time and Place/2 users are able to transparently interact with
  94.            existing OfficeVision/VM, PROFS or OfficeVision/MVS users to view,
  95.            free-time search, and update calendars.
  96.            INVESTMENT PROTECTION
  97.            Installing Time and Place Connectivity/2 is a good way to take
  98.            further advantage of investments in LAN equipment and operating
  99.            systems.  Time and Place Connectivity/2 also works with customer
  100.            investments in host office and SNA networks.  Time and Place
  101.            Connectivity/2 provides not only connectivity and interoperability
  102.            between host and LAN, but also between different host office
  103.            platforms such as OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS.
  104.            Customers who have invested in SNA networks may take advantage of the
  105.            Time and Place Connectivity/2 passthrough facility.  The passthrough
  106.            facility allows remote Time and Place/2 users to interoperate via an
  107.            SNA network with or without a host OfficeVision (R) calendar
  108.            installed.
  109.            GROWTH ENABLEMENT
  110.            Time and Place Connectivity/2 supports LAN network growth in software
  111.            and hardware investments by providing the necessary host connectivity
  112.            to calendars.  It enables the customer to selectively move
  113.            departments or project groups, for example, to accomplish movement to
  114.            a LAN-based system.
  115.            SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
  116.            Time and Place Connectivity/2 provides a graphical administrative
  117.            window that lets network managers easily add, delete and update
  118.            routing access to the host-based calendar, and supports other
  119.            administrative functions like viewing logged messages and displaying
  120.            connectivity status.
  121.                   Network managers can quickly and easily add, delete or update
  122.            nodes and monitors to ensure high system availability and
  123.            performance.
  124.            SYSTEM APPLICATION ARCHITECTURE (SAA)
  125.            Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 is an SAA-compliant
  126.            application.  Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 uses the
  127.            following SAA common programming interfaces (CPI):
  128.            o   Communication CPI from OS/2 Communication Manager
  129.            o   Presentation Interface CPI.  Time and Place Connectivity/2
  130.                Version 1.2 Administration complies with the CUA (TM) '91
  131.                Application Model graphical user interface.
  132.            PRODUCT POSITIONING
  133.            Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 is an OS/2 32-bit program
  134.            product that provides the ability to schedule people on other systems
  135.            or remote sites.  Features include administration and routing
  136.            functions and interfaces to LAN and host calendars.
  137.                   Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 is designed to allow
  138.            LAN and host calendar users to work with calendar data belonging to
  139.            users in different environments and with the Time and Place/2 client
  140.            user interface of their choice, for example, OS/2, Windows or DOS.
  141.                   Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 extends the function
  142.            of Version 1.1 to include additional functional and usability
  143.            enhancements such as update capability and extends the support to the
  144.            PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS environments.
  145.                   Time and Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 gives customers a
  146.            choice by providing internodal group scheduling support.  Users of
  147.            OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS may now also interoperate
  148.            with other calendar users on different host platforms.  This includes
  149.            view, free-time search and update capability.
  150.                   When used with Time and Place/2 Version 2, users may schedule
  151.            events, "to-do's," and resources using a graphical interface in an
  152.            OS/2, Windows or DOS environment.  Time and Place Connectivity/2
  153.            supports gradual host-to-LAN migrations by allowing users to coexist
  154.            and to interoperate across OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and
  155.            OfficeVision/MVS environments.
  156.                   Time and Place Connectivity/2 is differentiated in particular
  157.            by its internodal group scheduling support, maintenance of user
  158.            defined security levels, and real-time calendar update in all
  159.            supported environments.
  160.                   Host and LAN users can view each other's calendars in their
  161.            native calendar format, eliminating the need to retrain or to be
  162.            aware of the location of other systems.
  163.                   Time and Place Connectivity/2 supports customer investment in
  164.            today's technologies including OS/2 LAN, 32-bit machines, Mail
  165.            Gateways, LAN E-Mail and host office.
  166.            STATEMENT OF GENERAL DIRECTION
  167.            The IBM Time and Place Connectivity/2 product intends to provide
  168.            view, free-time search and update capability between the IBM Time and
  169.            Place/2 product and OfficeVision/400.

  240.            EXTERNAL INTERFACES:  The external interfaces between Time and Place
  241.            Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 and three other products, OfficeVision/VM,

  243.            date IBM begins its first customer shipment program for Time and
  244.            Place Connectivity/2 Version 1.2.
  245.            PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS:  Performance of Time and Place
  246.            Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 is affected by many factors.  These
  247.            include:
  248.            o   Speed of the server workstations
  249.            o   Amount of RAM installed
  250.            o   Location of the connectivity server on a dedicated machine or
  251.                installed with the Time and Place Version 2 master/data server
  252.                that holds the actual client calendar data
  253.            o   Number and speed of the Time and Place/2 Version 2 servers
  254.                (master/data) and OfficeVision/VM, PROFS or OfficeVision/MVS
  255.                calendar machines to which the connectivity server provides
  256.                access
  257.            o   Number and patterns of requests from the clients to the Time and
  258.                Place/2 Version 2 master/data servers and to the connectivity
  259.                server
  260.            o   Number and patterns of requests to the connectivity server from
  261.                remote host OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS calendar
  262.                users.
  263.            SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
  264.                   The announced program uses the security and auditability
  265.            features of OS/2.  It also offers the following security features:
  266.            o   APPC program level security between Time and Place
  267.                Connectivity/2, OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and OfficeVision/MVS
  268.                calendars:
  269.                       Time and Place Connectivity/2, OfficeVision/VM, PROFS and
  270.                OfficeVision/MVS calendar communication programs contain
  271.                administrator controlled user id's and passwords, ensuring that
  272.                only authorized applications have access to end user calendar
  273.                data.
  274.            o   Authorization levels between Time and Place/2 and
  275.                OfficeVision/VM, PROFS or OfficeVision/MVS calendar:
  276.                       Each Time and Place/2 user can permit or deny access for
  277.                other OfficeVision/VM, PROFS or OfficeVision/MVS calendar users
  278.                to view their calendar events.  Similarly, OfficeVision/VM, PROFS
  279.                or OfficeVision/MVS calendar users may permit or deny view access
  280.                to Time and Place/2 users.
  281.            o   Selective restriction (filtering) of internodal communication:
  282.                       The Time and Place Connectivity/2 administrator can
  283.                selectively restrict calendar communication between any Time and
  284.                Place/2 master server and OfficeVision/VM, PROFS or
  285.                OfficeVision/MVS calendar node.
  286.                   User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
  287.            implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
  288.            appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  289.            facilities.
  290. ORDERING   ORDERING INFORMATION
  291.                   The first customer shipment of IBM Time and Place
  292.            Connectivity/2 Version 1.2 will be by December 17, 1993, to a
