  14.     Any suggestions for low-end AGP video cards?  S3, Trident, Cirrus?
  15. The only S3 AGP that I can get here is the AOpen PG128Plus which uses that
  16. S3 Trio3D/2X chipset which has no OS/2 support, it was the PG128 that used
  17. the Trio3D chipset that had OS/2 support.  Any opinions on the
  18. Trident/Cirrus offerings?  As good, better than say a S3 ViRGE/DX?

  63. Sorry, not an answer, some questions:

  65. I have an IBM Personal Computer 300PL with what is succinctly 
  66. described as an S3Trio 3D card.  It  works very well indeed with OS/2.
  67.  However, I haven't been able to get XFree86 to recognise it.
  68.  
  69. I haven't downloaded the latest XFree86 (3.3.5) because I am confused 
  70. as to whether it would support my S3Trio 3D card.  I need more 
  71. information:
  72.  
  73. 1.  The exact description of my S3Trio 3D card.  I am right in 
  74. assuming from jhong's post that it would be the PG128?
  75.  
  76. 2. If I took the top off my case, could I verify that it was the PG128
  77. by looking at the integrated chip?

  79. 3. How do I get the top back on again? (just kidding,  I'll get some 
  80. strong bloke to do it for me)

  148. The answer is yes, you can have two display adapters in Warp 3 or 4,
  149. but there are some specific rules which must be followed.
  150.  
  151. Unless they are IBM XGA adapters, there must be a hierarchy, such
  152. as VGA and mono, or VGA and EGA.
  153.  
  154. In the case of VGA and mono, only text output can appear on the mono
  155. display, either in VIO or VDM operation, and, of course, one must have
  156. the software to be able to use this capability.
  157.  
  158. I currently have SVGA and mono with Warp 4, and have programs which
  159. use both displays simultaneously.  I also run single DOS programs which
  160. display text only, and can run them on the mono display, while running other
  161. programs simultaneously on the SVGA display.
  162.  
  163. Although I have not seen it, IBMer's have told me that a hierarchy is not
  164. necessary with two XGA displays, but this requires programs which can
  165. address the different output ports of the two display adapters.

  228. No no no... What he wants to do is have two video cards installed, but
  229. only install drivers for and use one under OS/2, while having drivers
  230. installed and use the other under a non-OS/2 OS, assumably Windows.

  232. He doesn't want to use the cards at the same time, and frankly, I don't
  233. know if you can do that! :)

  275. I remember that in old day of PS/2 that have an integrated VGA adapter on MB,
  276. you can connect an XGA video card and use two display; the VGA in text mode
  277. for full or windowed session, and the XGA as primary display. I think that

  397. Also Elsa 3000L, 3000M and probably 3000S (virge) have a dualboard gradd
  398. driver
  399. but ELSA have not updated their OS/2 drivers in quite awhile

  417. I've discovered an odd problem with my ATI setup. The system works
  418. normally with the ATI drivers in almost all cases, but I can make it
  419. hang without fail by starting a fullscreen OS/2 session with a working
  420. directory specified. After rebooting I find it had trapped in
  421. VIDEOPMI.DLL. The hang isn't a whole-system hang, for example the rest
  422. of the family can keep right on web surfing through the firewall on this
  423. machine, but the only keys which still work on it are Ctrl-Alt-Del.
  424.  
  425. Fullscreen and windowed OS/2, DOS and Win-OS2 otherwise all work
  426. normally. The ATI drivers are the "latest", being as they're the only
  427. ones available, and they're off the CD that came with it, labelled
  428. release 435. The system is W4 with FP12. I've no idea when this started,
  429. nor even if it has been like it for the whole 18 months or so since I
  430. installed the ATI card; I don't use fullscreen OS/2 sessions very often!
  431.  
  432. I'm interested to know if anyone else has experienced this, and even
  433. more interested to know if anyone has a solution (other than using IBM's
  434. or Scitech's GRADD drivers, which I have chosen not to use at this time
  435. for performance and stability reasons respectively).

  462. I had the same problem with Ver. 435. Try to replace the BVHSVGA.DLL by
  463. a newer one.

  469. I don't believe it : Have you ever tried to start a pure
  470. DOS-application from within WinOS2 using the FileManager? My system
  471. allways crashs completely.

  547. No, I can't say I've ever tried to do that: I can't see the point as
  548. OS/2 does a perfectly good job of starting them directly.

  576. an annnouncement on www.warpcast.com about it.

  578. Granted beta 8 was out only a little while ago,  I was surprised
  579. - pleasantly it turns out - that a new beta was available so quickly.

  581. I've trying out this (SDD/2) and two different video cards on
  582. my WSeB SMP machine for quite a while. This is the first one
  583. that works - and it works really well. The earlier versions would
  584. work on normal Warp 4 but not WSeN SMP.

  599. Thanks to input from John and Peter this problem is now cured. What I
  600. ended up doing was to extract the BVHVGA.DLL, BVHSVGA.DLL and
  601. VIDEOPMI.DLL files from SDD beta 9's DLLS file and used those instead. I
  602. think these actually come with IBM's GRADD 0.080, but I've not checked.
  603. At any rate, I can now get back to what I was trying to do before I
  604. discovered this problem: getting XFree86/OS2 running on this machine.

  654. Really, "newer" monitors will not try to work beyond their capabilities,
  655. thus you can safely try increasing sync frequencies, resolutions etc.

  724. the fonts) I wanted to install the S3 3.03.16 drivers. I reboot to VGA

  726. totally garbled (just video noise). The readme on IBM's device driver
  727. web site says to install the original dspres.dll which I did without any
  728. change. There is a way to fix this but I am at a loss at the moment.

  822. not let the magic smoke get out.  :-)

  824. Thankfully, most good monitors made in the past few years will perform
  825. a temporary shut down if you exceed their specs, meaning it's much more
  826. difficult to fry a monitor now than it was five years ago.

  855. First boot to the command line with ALT-F2 and make sure all the gradd entries
  856. are removed from comfig.sys. Then boot with ALT-F2 again and install VGA
  857. drivers
  858. then install the S3 non gradd drivers.

  937. S3 driver: get the latest (4.10.08) from the IBM PC support site

  1369. I have another copy of free agent on this (window98) machine and I read in
  1370. another post
  1371. that the news server was scitechsoft.com -- so I set it up and managed to get
  1372. the newgroup.
  1373. On the first download of headers I got and read about 400.. But on a refresh
  1374. there were 1345 which I haven't
  1375. managed to tackle yet. Many are refering to earlier betas and the problems
  1376. that I am having are
  1377. with beta 8. 
  1378.  
  1379. My current (and temporary) setup is on an Intel Altserver dual 166Mhz pentium
  1380. EISA motherboard with 32 meg of
  1381. ram running 2 scsi drives. The monitor is probably only vga and the video card 
  1382. is built in and
  1383. has one meg of memory,  it is one of the listed cirrus cards. Fixpack 10 and
  1384. other upgrades from the warpup cd from 
  1385. this summer.
  1386.  
  1387. Scitech ran for a while but only at 16 colors, which wasn't the problem, but
  1388. somewhere along the line, 
  1389. it tried to go to watchcat to kill a process and the machine hung. Since this
  1390. time, I haven't been able
  1391. to boot using the F1/F3 or any other combination of archived desktops,
  1392. maintenance desktop or command line
  1393. prompts other than the original install disks and a couple of bootos2
  1394. diskettes. 
  1395.  
  1396. F2 shows the computer hanging on the os2dasd.dmd file. 
  1397.  
  1398. In the first 400 messages, I didn't find much about my specific problem, which 
  1399. is really a curiosity about
  1400. what is going on. What files got changed and what is the way to back out of
  1401. the problem. 
  1402.  
  1403. I'll reinstall it if I have to, but I'd like to salvage some downloads that I
  1404. have.

  1604. G400 cards. The drivers are still beta and only the current beta 9
  1605. will work with WSeB SMP. There is also a problem that if you turn off
  1606. the machine the WPS will hang on the re-boot.
