T E C H N I C A L N O T E S
Product: WinFax PRO 3.0
Document No.: 2095
Document Date: November 4, 1993
======================================================================
Subject: WinFax, CAS, and OS/2 v2.1
Situation:
==========
You have a CAS Fax/Modem and are running WinFax PRO 3.0 under OS/2 v2.1.
Note:
=====
If you are not using Intel 200i or 400i, install WinFax for Class 1
operations, and do not use the CAS drivers. Follow the instructions
found in Technical Note #2033.
Solution:
=========
CAS fax/modems have a built-in microprocessor that controls the sending
and receiving of faxes. The following two drivers are required for the
computer to communicate with the CAS fax/modem:
SATISFAX.SYS
CASMGR.EXE
Because OS/2 v2.1 starts a DOS session before loading Windows, you can
configure the WIN-OS/2 session to have its own AUTOEXEC.BAT file which
loads the DOS TSR CASMGR.EXE.
To load the SATISFAX.SYS driver, you must enter it into the DOS_Device
section of the WIN-OS/2 session settings.
Once these settings have been applied, the drivers load into the WIN-OS/2
session, and WinFax communicates with the fax/modem through the CAS drivers.
Installation Notes:
===================
If your system locks up during installation, when you are installing WinFax
under OS/2 v2.1, do the following:
- In your OS/2 v2.1 CONFIG.SYS file, insert a remark statement in front
of the serial port drivers COM.SYS and VCOM.SYS.
- Install WinFax.
- Remove the remark statements from the serial port drivers in CONFIG.SYS.
While the information provided in this Technical Note has been found accurate
with many systems, Delrina only guarantees reliable operation with Microsoft
Windows 3.x systems.
For more information on WIN-OS/2 sessions, settings, and editing the
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files, see your OS/2 v2.1 User's Guide.
