  8. IBM* offers a comprehensive set of LAN Software products and support
  9. for building and managing large to small networks.  This guide provides
  10. you with information about these products and support.  It is a guide
  11. that helps you understand why and how IBM LAN Software solutions
  12. can help you in your business, no matter what your industry might be.

  15. The LAN Software Buyer's Guide can be viewed online from OS/2* or from
  16. Windows**.  Users with OS/2 2.0 or higher view the book by executing the
  17. OS/2 "VIEW" command.  Users with Windows 3.1 or higher view the book
  18. by executing the "XVIEW" command packaged with the LAN Software Buyer's
  19. Guide.

  22. The instructions on the diskette label describe how to view the guide from
  23. the diskette.  The Buyer's Guide also may be installed on your hard drive for
  24. faster access and future reference.

  27. OS/2 users:

  30.  1.  340 Kbytes of free hard drive space is required, with OS/2 installed
  31.      on the C drive.
  32.  2.  Install the guide from diskette to your hard drive.
  33.     
  34.     You may install the Buyer's Guide one of two ways:
  35.  
  36.     1)  To add the book to your OS/2 bookshelf, insert the diskette in
  37.         floppy disk drive A and enter the following command from an 
  38.         OS/2 command prompt:

  40.         copy a:lanbuyer.inf c:\os2\book\lanbuyer.inf     
  41.  
  42.         After loading has completed, from an OS/2 command prompt
  43.         enter the following command to view the guide:

  45.         view lanbuyer
  46.  
  47.          
  48.     2)  Create an object on your desktop:
  49.  
  50.          -- Insert the diskette in floppy disk drive A.
  51.          -- Open the OS/2 SYSTEM folder by double clicking the left
  52.                  mouse button on the OS/2 SYSTEM icon.    
  53.          -- Open the DRIVES folder by double clicking the left mouse
  54.          button on the DRIVES icon.
  55.          -- Open the DRIVE A folder by double clicking the left mouse
  56.               button on the DRIVE A icon.
  57.          -- Drag the lanbuyer.inf book to the desktop:
  58.                  -  Select the book by single clicking the left mouse button
  59.                     on the LANBUYER.INF icon.
  60.                  -  Hold down the right mouse button and drag the 
  61.                     LANBUYER.INF icon to the desktop.

  63.          To view the book (OS/2 2.0 users):
  64.          -- Select the book by single clicking the left mouse button on 
  65.              the LANBUYER.INF icon.
  66.          -- Display the pop-up menu by single clicking the right mouse
  67.              button while the mouse pointer is on the LANBUYER.INF icon.
  68.              -- Select OPEN.  Another pop-up menu will display.
  69.          -- Select VIEW.

  71.          To view the book (OS/2 2.1 or higher users):
  72.          -- Select the book by single clicking the left mouse button on 
  73.              the LANBUYER.INF icon.
  74.          -- Open the book by double clicking the left mouse button on
  75.              the LANBUYER.INF icon.

  78. Windows users:

  81.  1.  870 Kbytes of free hard disk drive space is required, with DOS
  82.      and Windows installed on the C drive.
  83.  2.  Install the guide and the XVIEW utility from diskette to your hard 
  84.      drive.

  86.     1)  Insert the diskette into floppy disk drive A.
  87.     2)  Go to the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER window and do
  88.             the following:

  90.              -- From the menu bar select FILE
  91.              -- From the FILE pop-down menu select RUN
  92.              -- In the dialog box enter the following command, and 
  93.                  then select OK.

  95.               a:install.bat
  96.  
  97.                  NOTE:  The above command will create a subdirectory 
  98.                           named LANBUYER on your C drive.  Then, it 
  99.                           will copy the LAN Software Buyer's Guide and 
  100.                           the XVIEW utility to the LANBUYER subdirectory.

  103.  3.  View the guide.

  105.     1)  Create Program Group and Program Item icons: 
  106.  
  107.              -- From the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER window, select 
  108.              FILE from the menu bar.
  109.          -- From the FILE pop-down menu, select NEW.
  110.          -- In the NEW PROGRAM OBJECT window select 
  111.              PROGRAM GROUP and then select OK.
  112.          -- In the PROGRAM GROUP PROPERTIES window dialog
  113.                  box enter the following and then select OK.

  116.                       Group File:   lanbuyer.grp

  118.          -- The IBM LAN SOFTWARE BUYER'S GUIDE window 
  119.                  will appear and be the active Program Group.

  121.              FILE from the menu bar.
  122.          -- From the FILE pop-down menu, select NEW.
  123.          -- In the NEW PROGRAM OBJECT window select 
  124.          PROGRAM ITEM and then select OK.
  125.          -- In the PROGRAM ITEM PROPERTIES window dialog
