  2. What is BenchTech for OS/2? It is essentially a suite of benchmarks, written
  3. specifically for OS/2 2.x, along with some related tools, all wrapped up in
  4. a PM interface. The program came about when I was looking for a computer to
  5. replace a PS/2 Model 70 that I had. I wanted to be able to compare machines,
  6. but didn't really trust benchmarks like Norton SI and Landmark. I wanted to
  7. know how fast it would run OS/2 code, so I began to write my own tests.

  9. BenchTech consists of 25 different benchmark tests. They range from simple
  10. tests, like approx cycles per second, to disk tests, video tests, floating
  11. point and system level tests. BenchTech strives to act like a real OS/2
  12. application, that is it uses OS/2 features (like PM, multi-threading, and
  13. OS/2 file i/o) and is written in 32 bit C code, and compiled with C Set/2.
  14. It also has a Rexx-based macro interface for automating large benchmark
