Local Fix: ... None
Problem Summary: The MS Word Installation Program will not install the
Examples & Demonstrations files in WINOS2, even though the user selects these options.
Problem Resolution: The User must remedy this problem as suggested in the procedures described below, or do without the Examples and Demonstration modules, unique features of the new MS-Word.
Temporary Fix: The suggested work -around is presented below.
Comments: This problem is not the result of any defect within OS/2. The MS
Word 6.0 Setup program will not install the computer based training module, CBT feature when it detects WINOS2.
The CBT feature must be added after installation of MS Word 6.0.
1. Install Word 6.0 on a DOS, MS-Windows 3.1 system and copy the \wordcb
directory files to your OS/2 installation. The user modifies the appropriate ini files and copies the necessary Word 6.0 files to the \WINOS2 AND THE \WINOS2\SYSTEM directories.(This is the memo recipient's suggestion.)
2. Open \winword\setup\setup.stf, using write, or the OS/2 System Editor (do not convert this file to any other format while editing.)
Do a Find on the string: OnOS2.
Use your arrow keys to change the word Yes to No at lines
numbered 504 and 505.
After the change, the text within the file at line 505 should look similar to:
505 Depend 504? :506 507
us No D:\WORD6OS2\WORDCBT\
[The letter D: stands for the drive upon which Winword is installed].
Save the edited file. Run \WINWORD\SETUP\SETUP.EXE, using the Word 6.0 Setup Icon, to install selectively the CBT features by placing an X mark in the box for on-line Help, Examples & Demos. Click on continue with your mouse,to place these files on your hard disk. Test whether the CBT feature has been installed.
Run MS Word 6.0
Select Help, Quick Preview
If the Quick Preview screen is displayed, then the CBT feature is
successfully installed.
If such is not the case, you may wish to again repeat the reinstallation of the CBT features (as the recipient did) or try brute force, the method described below.
3. In the manual installation, of the CBT Feature:
(Install the complete Word 6.0 on a Windows & DOS PC or on a Windows & DOS partition, first.)
Make the Directory (drive:)\winword\wordcbt. Copy the files
named in the file list below to a floppy and then copy them
to your \winword\wordcbt directory.
Edit \OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\winword6.ini by adding the:
MS CBT-PATH=D:\winword\wordcbt,
statement to the end of the file.
Save the amended file.
Edit the end of the Microsoft Word section of your WIN.INI file to read:
CBT-Path=d:\winword\wordcbt
Of course, save the file and exit the enhanced editor or
(The recipient got this facsimile in poor condition, due to the state of his Winfax Pro Installation. Editing was very liberal. IBM at times is not directly quoted. Good Luck. Register your concerns with MS. .....WB)
