USING WINDOWS ICONS AND BITMAPS WITH OS/2.
Windows icons and bitmaps may be easily converted to OS/2 2.0 use.
The installation process is a bit tricky!
First, Windows icons must be converted using CVTICO. This program
is available on most BBSs, and is easy to use. Bitmaps (.BMP) are
converted using CVBMP. That program yields bitmaps with the same
name, but with the extension OS2. That must be changed to VGA to
be recognized by OS2. Copy these to OS2\BITMAPS
Your converted icons, unless relatively few in number, should be
subdivided into alphabetical subdirectories. OS/2 does not handle
large numbers of icons very well. They may be on any drive you wish.
The procedure to install new icons is as follows:
1. Right click on the icon to be changed.
2. Select SETTINGS.
3. Select GENERAL.
4. Select FIND.
5. Select LOCATE.
6. Select DRIVES, and highlight the appropriate drive letter.
7. Type in the PATH, including drive and subdirectory.
8. Select OK.
9. Select "Search just this folder".
10. Select FIND.
11. Your icons will appear. Highlight your choice.
12. Select OK.
13. Selected icon will appear upper left, and is installed.
As noted above, OS/2 does not handle large icon files well. For
some reason, it does not release the memory used in several
repetitions of the procedure. You will have to Shutdown and
re-boot if you plan to install many new icons.

Installation of the desktop background is much easier:
First, be sure that your bitmaps (BITMAP.BMP) are properly converted
to BITMAP.OS2, then renamed to BITMAP.VGA. Copy all of those to
OS2\BITMAP.
1. Right click on blank area of desktop
2. Select SETTINGS
3. Select BACKGROUND
4. Scroll through VGA background choices, and select.
If anyone has a better, faster, or smoother way to do these things,
let's hear about it....
