The name of this file is: LGO3.DOC
Hello
This is designed for those who have 2 or more OS/2 boot partitions
and would like to have distinquishing "LOGOS" for the different
partitions.
I. An explanation of the file naming scheme
1 2 3 4 XX L
W Warp
V Version
4 4
BM Backup/Maintenance
IDK Installation Diskette
M Maintenance
XX The two letters following the "M" indicate the color
the word "Maintenance" is in.
BK Black
BN Brown
BU Blue
GN Green
GY Gray
OR Orange
RD Red
YW Yellow
L Last character of name is version number
1 = first version
2 = second version, with I think, better looking
font selection.
3 = third version. I have cleaned up the bottom
edge of the bitmap image file to remove
the eye distracting lettering color
trailerings. The BMP files look half
way decent. Maybe some day I'll even do a
version 4 where I add the speckle texture
to the bottom edge.
II. Programs used to do this job.
1. PMView to convert the OS2LOGO to a bitmap (BMP) file.
2. Colorworks V1+ to add the text to the bitmap files and color
text. -
The font "Courier New" "Bold" was choosen on the second draft
because it was the closest I could come to matching the
"IBM" in the upper right hand corner.
The words "Diskette" and "Backup" are at font size 46.
The word "Maintenance" is at font size 66.
I forgot to write down the font size for the word
"Installation." It is in the 60's.
When saving the files in Colorworks, they had to be saved as
8 bit files. Anything more than 256 colors and
Preplogo could not convert them into logo files.
The save option which gets the best results is:
8 bit - 256, Error Diffusion.
3. Preplogo was used to then convert the bitmap files back into
OS/2 Logo files.
III. Test results
Upon testing the results of my handy work, I have made three
discoveries.
1. In the "Backup" and "Maintenance" logos, the word "BACKUP"
looses some of the coloring. In the bitmap file, each
letter of the word "backup" is a different color,
starting with red and changing shades and ending up with
green. The "LGO" file basically only has three colors.
2. If you are a perfectionist, you may not like my logos. The
bottom edge is a little raggiedy in that there are some
one pixel wide color blotches at the bottom of the screen.
3. For some reason the LGO version of the images comes out not
looking near as nice as the BMP version on the bottom
edge. Like I said above, maybe some day I can do a
version 4 and make to bottom edge look even better. In
the mean time you could apply "Warpboot" to your OS/2
kernal file, which chops off the bottom edge and
displays the drivers being loaded at bootup on the
bottom of the screen.
IV. Reality check
I originally tried to zip up all the "LGO" files and their "BMP"
source files into one archive file. A 4MB file seemed a little
large so I am now creating two separate files.
WV4MLGO3.ZIP Warp Version 4 Maintenance Logo files - edition 3
with 17 *.lgo files.
WV4MBMP3.ZIP Warp Version 4 Maintenance Bitmap files - edition 3
with 17 *.bmp files.
In the original version, I created images for the Warp 4 Installation
floppies. It had been a while since I had done an installation
and made one image for diskette one and another for diskette two.
Well, I have done an install since then and discovered that
diskette two is the only one that displays the OS/2 boot logo,
so, now all there is, is the "Installation" version. File
"WV4IDK3.BMP/LGO"
