  1. Kiwi Media Presents...

  3. Finally, long overdue and bigger than I expected (sounds like a Microsoft
  4. product!) is Trekbats, a font chock full o' Trek logoes, diagrams, graphics,
  5. emblems, etc.  It's got it all, from the standard starfleet communicator-type
  6. emblems, to Federation, Borg, Klingon, and Romulan insignia, phaser pictures,
  7. a klingon assault knife, and all the enterprises (orig, A, B, C, and D).
  8. Runabouts, Klingon D-7's, Warbirds, Reliants, Cubes, the whole nine yards.

  10. This is a work in progress.  There is no conceivable way for me to do
  11. everything involving Star Trek in this font's first version.  There're
  12. probably emblems and such that I don't know about or that haven't been shown
  13. yet.  If you have an idea for a new character, email me, prefferably with a
  14. uuencoded or binhexed picture of the ship/logo in question.

  16. Legalese:  This font is in no way supported or endorsed by Paramount Pictures,
  17. is not an official Star Trek product, and is intended for entertainment
  18. purposes only.  Kiwi Media is not affiliated with Paramount Pictures in any
  19. way, other than through the fact that the designer of this font is a really
  20. big trek fan.   I cannot ask for money for this, although I'd like to.
  21. I do enocurage people to make contributions to the University of Wisconsin
  22. Undergraduate Projects Lab (see below).  Please contact me about such a
  23. contribution.  Information on my other (shareware) fonts can be received from
  24. the same address.

  28. So what's with this Kiwi thing?  Kiwi Media is a little computer arts group I
  29. formed in the mid eighties so I had something to put in the credits for the
  30. Apple // animations that I had been working on.   Since that time, it has grown
  31. to encompass almost two people and hold assets in the dozens of dollars.
  32.  
  33. I'm also going to plug the UPL shamelessly right here:  The UPL is the
  34. University of Wisconsin's CS Undergraduate Projects Lab.  It is a completely
  35. student administrated and coordinated computer lab, a place for students
  36. interested in learning programming and system administration can work
  37. independently in an environment conducive to such activities.  We currently
  38. have three workstations (two DEC 5000s and an HP 9000) and two old HP's that we
  39. use for XTerms.  If you know of any group interested in donating equipment or
  40. money to this lab, which is one of only a handful of such labs in the world,
  41. please contact me.  All our equipment is donated, and we are completely
  42. non-profit (all time and effort is donated too).

  44. Ok, enough of that.  Here's a list of fonts currently in existence that are
  45. made by Kiwi media:

  47. Devotion: A font based on the brushstroke handwriting on the cover of dM's
  48. "Songs of Faith and Devotion."
  49.  
  50. Erasure:  based on the curvy sans outline font on the cover of recent erasure
  51. albums.
  52.  
  53. SinGothic: A cool fractured font extrapolated from the cover of the NIN "Sin"
  54. single.
  55.  
  56. Ambient:  A small-caps based on the writing on Moby's "Ambient" album.
  57.  
  58. Ultraworld:  A bold, rounded font based on the logo of the ambient techno
  59. band, The Orb.
  60.  
  61. Technobats: a collection of 26 dingbats, logoes of
  62. techno/industrial/synthpop bands and some of their record labels.

  64. Non-album cover fonts:

  66. Bajoran:  The title font from Deep Space Nine.
  67.  
  68. Trekbats: A truly staggering array of trek logoes and emblems, including small
  69. pictures of various starships.

  71. Kroebern: A script font taken from the 18th century script found on german
  72. manuscripts and official records.

  76. Starships volume 1:  A collection of Infini-D 2.0 starship models that look
  77. neat but render quickly and have enough space left over for customization.

  79. Warbird:  A short quicktime movie of a Romulan Warbird decloaking.  Rendered.

  81. Predator:  A klingon bird of prey flies over and fires.  A short rendered
  82. QT movie.
