  8. We recommend that you print this file so you will have a hard
  9. copy to guide yourself during installation.
  10.  
  11. All files necessary for proper installation of your fonts
  12. in Windows Ventura Publisher (GEM) and CorelDraw! are
  13. included in this disk.
  14.  
  15. File Naming Convention:
  16.  
  17.     VGA = Screen font for Ventura
  18.     FON = Screen font for Windows
  19.     PFB = Type 1 (Binary) Printer Font
  20.     AFM = Adobe Font Metrics (used by
  21.           CorelDraw's WFNBOSS to convert
  22.           Type1 to WFN)
  23.     PFM = Font metrics for Windows
  24.     VFM = Font metrics for Ventura
  25.     WID = Width table for Ventura
  26.     LST = List file to create Width
  27.           table using VFMTOWID.EXE
  28.           (this utility is found in
  29.           Utilities disk of Ventura)
  30.  
  31. AFTER YOU HAVE EXTRACTED THE FILES FROM AFONT.EXE YOU 
  32. SHOULD COPY ALL FILES TO A FLOPPY DISK. ANY DISK WILL
  33. HAVE ENOUGH SPACE TO HOLD ALL THIS FILES.

  36.               INSTALLING FONTS FOR WINDOWS

  39.     NOTE: PRINTER FONTS FILES ARE THE SAME
  40.               FOR BOTH VENTURA AND WINDOWS
  41.  
  42.  IF YOU DON'T HAVE ADOBE TYPE MANAGER DO THE FOLLOWING:
  43.  
  44. Step 1:    Insert diskette in drive A: or B:
  45.  
  46. Step 2: Copy PRINTER FONTS files to the PSFONTS directory
  47.     
  48.     command: COPY A:*.PFB C:\PSFONTS
  49.  
  50. Step 3:    Copy FONT METRICS files to your PSFONTS directory
  51.  
  52.     command: COPY A:*.PFM C:\PSFONTS
  53.  
  54. Step 4:    Run Notepad or your favorite text editor and edit the
  55.     WIN.INI file.
  56.  
  57. Step 5: Open your WIN.INI file
  58.  
  59. Step 6: Go to the heading [PostScript,XXX] where XXX is your
  60.     printer port. (LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, COM1, COM2, or FILE)
  61.  
  62. If these are the first softfonts you are installing go to Step 7.
  63.  
  64. If you already have softfonts installed proceed to Step 9.
  65.  
  66. Step 7: Add the following lines:
  67.  
  68.     softfonts=1
  69.     softfont1=C:\PSFONTS\AFUTBLK_.PFM,C:\PSFONTS\AFUTBLK_.PFB
  70.  
  71. Step 8: Save the WIN.INI file once you have entered these lines.
  72.  
  73. Step 9: If you already have softfonts installed you should enter
  74.     the lines in Step 7, but number the softfonts accordingly.
  75.     
  76.     For example: If you have 4 fonts installed, the new font
  77.              would become softfont5. Now softfonts=5 at 
  78.              the top of the list.
  79.  
  80. Step 10: You should enter the above lines for every PostScript port
  81.      listing in your WIN.INI so if you change printer ports 
  82.      your fonts are always available.
  83.  
  84.          The printer fonts are installed and ready to be used.
  85.  
  86. Step 11: Exit Windows and restart it so the new font information
  87.      becomes effective.
  88.  
  89. Step 12: Install screen fonts. From Windows run Control Panel.
  90.  
  91. Step 13: Click on the FONTS icon.
  92.  
  93. Step 14: Choose ADD... and choose either A: or B: depending
  94.      on the drive you are using.
  95.  
  96. Step 15: Windows will read the disk information and show you
  97.      the files available.
  98.  
  99. Step 16: Click on the file with the extension .FON and choose OK.
  100.      The screen fonts will be added and will show in the
  101.      display box.
  102.  
  103. You may choose NOT to install the screen fonts to save disk space.
  104. The printer fonts work regardless of the screen fonts being
  105. installed or not.
  106.

  108.        INSTALLING FONTS WITH ADOBE TYPE MANAGER
  109. ******************************************************
  110.  
  111. Step 1:     Start ATM Control and click on ADD...
  112.  
  113. Step 2:  Click on the drive and/or directory where your font is
  114.      located.
  115.  
  116. Step 3:     Click on the font name and click on ADD...
  117.  
  118.      The font is installed automatically in your win.ini
  119.      in all the ports you have listed, and the font numbers
  120.      are updated.
  121.  
  122. Step 4:  Open the WIN.INI using a text editor such as notepad.
  123.  
  124. Step 5:  Go to the line that mentions the font you just installed
  125.      and add a comma (,) and c:\psfonts\afutblk_.pfb to indicate
  126.      where to find the printer font.
  127.  
  128.     Ex: softfontX=c:\psfonts\afutblk_.pfm,c:\psfonts\afutblk_.pfb
  129.  
  130.      ATM adds fonts to the WIN.INI as if they were pre-downloaded
  131.      to the printer. If you would like to download the font prior
  132.      to printing, don't add the line above.

  135.           INSTALLING FONTS FOR VENTURA (GEM)
  136. ******************************************************
  137.  
  138. Step 1:    Insert diskette in drive A: or B:
  139.  
  140. Step 2: Copy PRINTER FONTS files to the PSFONTS directory
  141.     
  142.     command: COPY A:*.PFB C:\PSFONTS
  143.  
  144. Step 3:    Copy WIDTH TABLES files to your VENTURA directory
  145.  
  146.     command: COPY A:*.WID C:\VENTURA
  147.  
  148. Step 4: Copy SCREEN FONTS to your VENTURA directory
  149.  
  150.     command: COPY A:*.VGA C:\VENTURA
  151.  
  152.     NOTE: if you are using screen fonts with a different
  153.           file extension, such as PSF you may copy
  154.           the files and rename them after or you may copy
  155.           and rename at the same time.
  156.     
  157.     example: COPY A:*.VGA C:\VENTURA\*.PSF
  158.  
  159. Step 5: Run Ventura and click on the Options menu
  160.  
  161. Step 6: Choose ADD/REMOVE FONTS...
  162.  
  163. Step 7: Choose MERGE WIDTH TABLES. A dialog box with a list of
  164.     the WID files available will pop-up
  165.  
  166. Step 8: Choose AFUTBLK_.WID and click OK. Ventura will take a 
  167.     few seconds to merge the Width Tables.
  168.  
  169. Step 9:  Once you have finished click on SAVE AS NEW WIDTH TABLE.
  170.      You may choose a new name or overwrite the existing
  171.      width table.
  172.  
  173. Your fonts are now installed and available. You don't have
  174. to exit Ventura to use them.
  175.  
  176. *****************************************************
  177.      INSTALLING FONTS FOR CORELDRAW! 1.21 & 2.0
  178. *****************************************************
  179. You should copy the AFM file to your PSFONTS directory to
  180. improve the speed. You may install from the floppy disk
  181. but it is not advisable because WFNBOSS keeps that information
  182. and the next time you convert a Type1 font it will look in
  183. you floppy drive, giving an error if it is empty.
  184.  
  185. Step1:    Start Windows and Run WFNBOSS which should be located
  186.     in your CorelDraw! directory.
  187.  
  188. Step2:    Click on the Conversion Type box until Adobe Type 1 shows.
  189.  
  190. Step3:    The Source Directory should be the one where both PFB and
  191.     AFM files are located (PSFONTS). CorelDraw! does not use 
  192.     PFM's in the conversion. If you want to change the Source
  193.     Directory click on NEW DIR and choose the right one. 
  194.  
  195. Step4:    The Destination Directory should be the one where CorelDraw!
  196.      fonts are. This option is gray and may not be changed from
  197.     within WFNBOSS. You may change by editing the file WFNBOSS.INI
  198.  
  199. Step5:    Once you have chosen the right directory, the available files
  200.     are displayed in the box named Available Fonts.
  201.  
  202. Step6:    Click on the one you want to convert, AFUTBLK_.
  203.  
  204. Step7:    The CorelDraw Name may be changed if you wish. There is no reason
  205.     to do so.
  206.  
  207. Step8:    The File Name defaults to the PFB file name with the extension WFN.
  208.     You may change this name if there is a conflict with other files.
  209.     We try to name our fonts in a fashion that does not conflict with
  210.     other files. All our fonts start with an "A" followed by a font
  211.     specific 3 letter code.
  212.  
  213. Step9:  Click on CONVERT. Another dialog box appears showing the Postscript
  214.     font name. Just click OK. The conversion will start. You can see
  215.     the progress at the bottom, in the status box.
  216.  
  217. Step10:    If you are using CORELDRAW! version 1.21 you have to exit Windows
  218.     and restart it so the information becomes effective. This is because
  219.     the INI information is contained in the WIN.INI.
  220.     If you have version 2.0, you don't have to exit Windows. Version 2.0
  221.     uses its own independent CORELDRW.INI. If you had CorelDraw! running
  222.     when the conversion was done, just exit CorelDraw! and restart it.

  224. Now the font is available and you'll find it at the bottom of the font list
  225. If you alphabetize your fonts, use Notepad to edit CORELDRW.INI and move the
  226. font line to the proper location, around the "F's".
