Statbar 1.1 Beta May 18, 1994
Written by Chris Corzine (ccorzine@uidaho.edu)
Introduction:
Statbar is a small, hopefully unobtrusive program designed to display basic
system information. This information includes the time, free disk space on a
drive of your choice, the time since last boot, and free memory (real+virtual)
available on the system. In addition, Statbar includes a simple swap-file
monitor which will warn you if your free disk space falls below a certain
level.
I designed Statbar because I always seemed to want this information, and would
have utilities running to provide it. Statbar allows it all to be displayed
in a smaller format, taking up less screen real-estate.
This release is a beta version. I've used this utility myself for about six
months, but decided to clean it up and see if anyone else would find it
useful. I'll be making changes to it as time goes on, including adding
features that anyone would like to see.
As far as using Statbar goes, it's pretty simple. About the only thing you
need to remember is to use the right mouse button for access to options via a
pop-up menu. Other than that, Statbar should be self explanatory.
Release Notes:
Statbar has been tested on a variety of machines, but I am still worried about
the display of the system. If you come across any display problems, I'd love
to hear about them.
Statbar's Swap-file monitoring relies on your swappath being listed in the
DPATH environment variable in config.sys. If it isn't there, the system won't
find the swapfile. This will be modified, but I haven't figured out how to do
it to my satisfaction yet.
Statbar has three different display sizes, but due to a design oversight by
me, you have to choose one, then restart the program to get it to work. This
will also be changed, eventually.
Statbar has had problems monitoring free space on network drives. I'm
still trying to figure out a solution that works.
Other Notes:
Statbar is freeware. You may copy it, distribute it, use it, curse it, or
anything else is long as you do not sell it. You may charge a nominal fee
for the distribution of Statbar. By using Statbar, you also agree to the
following disclaimer:
Statbar is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. The author will not
be held responsible for any damages resulting from its use.
Statbar may be redistributed, but the following items must be included in the
archive:
Statbar.EXE
Statbar.HLP
Statbar.TXT
This version of Statbar should probably not be distributed too far and wide,
since it is beta software. The release version will follow shortly--I'm just
getting this out to get some feedback on it.
Finally, if Statbar experiences any weird problems, delete the Statbar.INI
file from your hard disk. Depending on how your computer is configured, this
will be either in the same directory Statbar is, or located in the \OS2
directory.
