  2. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Xact Installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  4. The install program is used to install, update or remove Xact for OS/2. 
  5.  
  6. Install 
  7. Use this function if there is not already a copy of Xact for OS/2 on your hard 
  8. disk. After you click on the Install button, the install dialog will be opened. 
  9.  
  10. In the install dialog, you specify the directory in which to install Xact. The 
  11. install dialog also provides you with additional last-minute information. 
  12.  
  13. Update 
  14. This function is used to update an already existing Xact installation with a 
  15. newer version. When you push the Update button, INSTALL searches your hard disk 
  16. for an existing Xact installation. If it doesn't find any, you can either 
  17. create a new copy of Xact or abort the update process.

  19. The update function is also useful if, by accident, some of the Xact files were 
  20. deleted. Using "update" instead of "install" lets you keep your configuration 
  21. files.

  23. Remove 
  24. This function removes all files, directories, and system entries belonging to 
  25. Xact. If you have created your own files in one of Xact's subdirectories, these 
  26. directories cannot be removed, and INSTALL will tell you so.

  28. When you press the Remove button, INSTALL searches your hard disk for an 
  29. installed copy of Xact. If the search is successfull, INSTALL will tell you so 
  30. and ask if the found copy of Xact should be deleted. After removing you can 
  31. either create a new installation or terminate INSTALL.

  34. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. The install dialog ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  36. In this dialog you can enter the directory, in which the XACT directory and its 
  37. subdirectories will be created during installation. The default path is the 
  38. root directory of drive C.

  40. As soon as you push the Start button, the install process begins. While the 
  41. necessary files are copied, you can read the information text placed in the 
  42. install dialog. After installation, you will find this information text in the 
  43. file README.TXT. If you want to abort the install process, click on Abort.

  49. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Start the install/update process ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  51. As soon as you click on Start, the install process begins. INSTALL creates the 
  52. necessary directories and copies the program files onto your hard disk. As a 
  53. final step, INSTALL creates a program object on your desktop. You can start the 
  54. installed program by double-clicking the program object.

  57. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Aborting the installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  59. When you click on Abort, the installation will be aborted, and the install 
  60. program is terminated.

  62. If you select Abort while INSTALL copies a file, the install program will only 
  63. be terminated after it has finished copying the file.

  66. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. The license dialog ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  68. If you are installing Xact for the first time, you have to enter your name and 
  69. address in the license dialog. If your copy is licensed to an institution or a 
  70. company, the name of the company or institution must be entered as well.

  72. The license dialog cannot be closed until each of the fields (except company 
  73. name) has been completed.
