Video Toolkit For OS/2
======================
Last Updated 24th May 2000
Introduction
============
The OS/2 Video Toolkit has been designed to fulfill two functions :
1) Provide support for live video overlay & image capture under OS/2 2.X
and later
2) Provide examples and libraries so that 3rd parties can develop
their own TV aware applications - quickly and simply.
This toolkit is for use with the Hauppauge Win/TV Celebrity, Prism, HighQ
and the Wincast range of video capture devices. It contains 4 sample
applications plus full documentation and files for building your own
Presentation Manager multimedia applications based around the cards.
The OS/2 Video Toolkit supports video from cable TV, camcorder, video
cameras and VCRs.
All tools, utilities and examples are designed to work under all
versions of OS/2 after & including OS/2 2.0.
The toolkit contains the following utilities :-
TV2CFG.EXE - Utility for configuring Win/TV Celebrity & HighQ
for OS/2 2.X
PMTV2.EXE - Celebrity TV utility for OS/2 2.X
RCON.EXE - Rocket Remote Control
PIP.EXE - Picture In Picture which allows more than one
video input to be displayed in one apllication.
PMDIAG.EXE - Utility to diagnose & display current TV settings.
The toolkit contains the following example source programs :-
DIAG - A simple command line diagnostic tool. The makefile supplied
with this tool assumes you are using Microsoft C6.
EX1 - The Hello World TV app. Puts a TV on the desktop
EX2 - EX1 + remote control
EX3 - EX2 + invoke configuration settings
EX4 - EX3 + single frame capture
DIVE An example application using Dive
CAM - A simple example web cam system
The source code examples require the IBM CSet 'C' compiler. Alternative
32 bit 'C' compilers may be used.
The toolkit contains the following on-line development docs :-
Document for the MMPM/2 low level IOCTL interface.
N.B. These docs are now out of date.
Requirements
============
In order to use the Video Toolkit For OS/2 you must have the Multmedia For OS/2
installed. You must also have a copy of the following files which will be
shipped with WarpTV for OS/2 Warp. The files are as follows :-
1) CELEB.SYS - Celebrity card device driver.
2) VCAI.DLL - MMPM/2 low level IOCTL interface.
3) CELEBNB.DLL - Configuration pages for the Celebrity
card.
For the Wincast boards the files will be :-
1) WCAST.SYS - Wincast card device driver.
2) VCAI.DLL - MMPM/2 low level IOCTL interface.
3) WCASTNB.DLL - Configuration pages for the Wincast
card.
Creating An Installation Diskette from ZIP file
===============================================
If this toolkit was shipped to you in a zipped format you will need to
create an image to install from.
To create an installation image take the following steps :-
1) Insert a blank formatted floppy disk into drive A.
2) From the directory containing VIDTLKT.ZIP type the
following :-
pkunzip -d vidtlkt *.*
N.B. This will unzip all the files into the current
directory.
Installation
============
To install the Video Toolkit For OS/2 you must take the following steps :-
1) Go to the directory containing the video toolkit image.
2) To install the toolkit you must supply the installation
script (INSTALL.CMD) with a drive letter and the name of the
directory you wish to use for the toolkit. For example :-
install c:\vcatlkt <return>
3) The installation will create all the directories used by the
toolkit and then copy all the files to the relevant directories.
Once the files have been copied the installation script will
create a desktop folder containing three subsequent folders
which contain the Samples, Information, and Utilities.
4) In order to develop applications to use the VCAI.DLL which is
supplied with WarpTV you must first copy the include files in
the H subdirectory to your compiler's include directory or add
the H subdirectory to your include path. You must also copy the
library files in the LIB subdirectory to your compiler's lib
directory or add the LIB subdirectory to your lib path.
If you have any problems installing/using the toolkit then please fill in
a defect report, a copy of which is in the toolkit directory, and contact us as
