ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. About VCS for OS/2 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
VCS for OS/2 is a very simple version control system. It checks to see if a
file has change based on the date and time. If the file has changed then the
system will invoke ZIP to create a copy of the files to be archived. The
system really spends most of its time asleep. It wakes up every 10 seconds to
see if the file has changed but this process is very quick and takes almost no
system resources.
You can then look at the logs created by ZIP to verify that the ZIP worked
correctly. The system maintains 3 levels of logs.
Thank you for your interest in Version Control Software for OS/2.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Important Note ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You must have a copy of ZIP for OS/2 in your path for the system to work!!! It
was tested with ZIP 2.0.1.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Main Window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The main window contains four buttons and four status fields. The Start Button
is used to start the actual system up. This process kicks off the second
thread of the system. This thread is where all of the work of the system is
done. The Stop Button is used to stop the system after it is started. The
Configure Button is used to setup the filename to monitor, the archive
directory, files that are to be archive and the major version of the archive.
The View Logs Button is where you can view the logs created by ZIP. Here you
can verify that ZIP correctly archived the files. The status field will tell
you what the system is doing, ie starting, sleeping, working, stopping or
stopped. The current version field displays the version of the last copy of
the files. The last update fields tell you the date and time of the last copy
of the files.
This window can be minimized if you wish.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Configure Button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The configure button is used to set the system parameters.
The Monitor Filename is the filename that the system monitors for changes.
When the system detect a change in the file it will create a new "zip" of the
files in "Files to Archive". You can either type in the filename or drop WPS
object on this field to set it. The file name must be available at this time
because it is verified by the system.
The Archive Directory is the place that ZIP will place the zip files. Again you
can either type in the name or drop a WPS folder on this field to set it. This
directory must be available at this time because it is verified by the system.
Files to Archive will display the list of files that will be archive. You can
change this list by using drag and drop operations. You can add a file by
dropping a WPS object on this list. You can delete a file by dragging it to
the shredder.
The Major Version spin list allows you to change the first part of the version
number. The minor part of the version will be reset to zero after changing the
major version only.
The Update button is used to write the new information to the VCS.INI.
The Cancel button will not write the VCS.INI file.
The VCS.INI is a text file however, please don't edit it. Let the system do it
for you.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. View Logs Button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The View logs button is used to view the logs created by ZIP when a archive is
done. This will display a window with two fields. The top field contains the
standard output from ZIP, the bottom contains the error output from ZIP. The
spin button allows you to view the other logs maintained. There are three
levels of logs maintained with 1 being the newest and 3 being the oldest.
