  4. The main installation window allows the selection of which components are to be 
  5. installed and to specify where they are to be installed to. 
  6.  
  7. The installable components are listed on the left hand side of the window and 
  8. details of the current or highlited component are shown on the right hand side.

  13. When the installation program is closed, all changes will be lost.  When the 
  14. program is restarted, all directories, chosen components etc will be reset to 
  15. their default values regardless of previous installations.

  20. The list of installable components is shown as a tree representing the 
  21. reationships between components. 
  22.  
  23. When a component has been selected for installation, a checkmark will appear to 
  24. the left hand side of the component's name.

  26.  A component can be selected or deseleted for installation by first 
  27. highlighting it with the mouse or cursor keys to make it the current component 
  28. and then double clicking on it with the mouse; pressing the space bar or 
  29. clicking on the Select/Deselect pushbutton.

  31. When a component is selected, it's parent component is also selected, then it's 
  32. parent's parent etc.  Any child components are also selected unless they have 
  33. been explicitly deselected previously.  Finally, any components which the 
  34. current component requires will also be selected although confirmation of this 
  35. action will first be requested.

  44. The destination path determines where the current component's files and 
  45. subdirectories will be installed.  If a components path has not been modified 
  46. from the default value, this will be a subdirectory of the parent component's 
  47. destination path.

  50. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Disk space ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  52. The disk space required by a component is only displayed if that component is 
  53. selected for installation.

  55. The disk space required is displayed for each drive to which the component's 
  56. files will be installed.  The required sizes are the sum of all file sizes 
  57. associated with the current component and all file sizes associated with 
  58. selected child components. 
  59.  
  60. To see the overall total of space required on each disk, the top-most component 
  61. must be highlited in the tree view.

  66. The Select/Deselect pushbutton will select or deselect the current component 
  67. for installation.  Clicking on this button has the same effect as double 
  68. clicking on the current component in the tree view with the mouse.

  73. The Undo pushbutton will undo any changes made to the current component since 
  74. it became highlighted.  Clicking on this button will return the selection state 
  75. and destination to the values they had when the component was highlited.

  77. When a different component is highlited, changes to the previous component are 
  78. made permanent and the Undo pushbutton will not be enabled.

  83. The Default pushbutton will set the values associated with the current 
  84. component to their defaults.  Clicking on this button will set the component's 
  85. selection state to match that it's parent and the destination path to become a 
  86. subdirectory of the parent's destination path.

  91. The Install pushbutton will commence installation of the selected components.

  114. system should be updated by the installation program.

  119. When the Install selected files checkbox is selected, the installation process 
  120. will physically transfer the requested files to the target system.

  122. It may be useful to deselect this option if the files have been installed 
  123. perviously or are to be used direct from the installation disk.

  128. When the Register WPS classes checkbox is selected, any files which implement 
  129. Workplace Shell classes will be registered with the system.

  132. to a LAN server or other machine for which the environment need not be set up.

  137. When the Create desktop objects checkbox is selected, all objects such as 
  138. folders, program references etc will be created on the desktop.

  140. It may be useful to deselect this option if the installation is to copy files 
  141. to a LAN server or other machine for which the environment need not be set up.

  146. When the Create desktop objects checkbox is selected, system configuration 
  147. changes will be written to the specified file which is CONFIG.SYS by default.

  156. this file.  By default, that will mean writing the changes back to the system's 
  157. CONFIG.SYS.

  162. When the Backup CONFIG.SYS checkbox is selected, the specified system

  164. made.  By default, selecting this checkbox means that the CONFIG.SYS file will 
  165. be copied to CONFIG.BAK before any changes are made.

  198. deselected.

  203. The component list displays those components which will also be selected or 
  204. deselected along with the current component if the action is carried out.

  207. selected; requires a component being deselected or would ordinarilly have 
  208. automatically been seleted along with the current component but was previously 
  209. explicitly deselcted.

  214. The OK pushbutton will confirm the action to take place on the prerequisite 
  215. components, selecting or deselecting all in the list along with the current 
  216. component.  The prerequisite components window will close after the action has 
  217. been carried out.

  222. The Cancel pushbutton will reject the action to take place on prerequisite 
  223. components aswell as the current component, restoring the selection to the 
  224. state it was in before the Select/Deselect action was chosen.  The prerequisite 
  225. components window will close after this button has been pressed.

  230. The Help pushbutton will display the help text available for the prerequisite 
  231. components window.

  236. The installation status window displays the current status of the installation 
  237. in progress.  The current component and installable item being processed are 
  238. displayed along with a status bar indicating how much of the installation has 
  239. been completed.

  241. When the installation has completed, the installation status window will 
  242. automatically close, returning to the main installation window.

  247. The installation error message indicates an unexpected error which has ocurred 
  248. during the installation.  In most cases, an explanation is given regarding the 
  249. reason for the error.

  251. If the Abort option is given, this can be chosen in order to abort the entire 
  252. installation.

  254. If the Retry option is given, this option can be chosen in order to retry the 
  255. failing operation.

  257. If the Ignore option is given, this option can be chosen in order to ignore the 
  258. error and proceed with the rest of the installation.

  263. The Abort confirmation message indicates that aborting the installation has 
  264. been requested.  Confirming the abort will cause the installation operation to 
  265. terminate and automatically close the installation status window.

  270. When the selected files require more disk space than is currently available on 
  271. the chosen target drives, the installation must be confirmed.  Confirming the 
  272. installation will initiate the installation process whereas rejecting the 
  273. installation will return to the main installation window. 
  274.  
  275. The free disk space is calculated without regard for previous installtions of 
  276. the same files.  For this reason, attempting to re-install the files may result 
  277. in this warning even though the installation will succeed without error.

  280. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 33. Installation completion ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  282. When the installation has completed, the installation status window will 
  283. automatically close.  If updates were made to the system configuration file 
  284. (CONFIG.SYS by default), the completion message will indicate that a reboot is 
  285. required.

  287. The installation program does not keep track of which components have been 
  288. installed on this or previous occasions.

  293. The completion status bar represents the amount of installation work completed 
  294. at a percentage of the total amount of work to do.

  299. The Abort pushbutton will prompt for confirmation before aborting the 
  300. installation.  If the abort is confirmed, the installation will complete as 
  301. soon as the current item is finished with.  The installation program will not 
  302. attempt to restore the system back to it's previous state in the event of an 
  303. abort.

  308. The Help pushbutton will display the help text available for the installation

  314. An error occured while trying to update the config.sys or update file specified 
  315. in the options. Possible reasons could be that the file is read only, the drive 
  316. is not ready or the drive is not writeable.

  321. The Retry pushbutton will try to perform the operation again.

  327. make it writeable and then try to update it.
