This file only applies the copy of EPM 6.00 dated Monday
October 26, 1993. If you come across another copy,
please send email to watworks@watson.ibm.com to determine
the appropriate licencing agreements and disclaimers.
Introduction
-------------
The text editor that you find in this directory is a beta test version
of what is slated to become a retail version of WatsonWork's EPM 6.00.
In order to avoid undermining the forthcoming commercial release of the
editor, a variety of functions were removed from this beta. Most of
those functions will be enumerated later in this file.
Licencing Agreement
-------------------
*This* beta version of EPM 6.00 is freeware. You may duplicate and
distribute *this* copy at will. There is no expiration date on one's
right to keep this copy. but that right does not entitle one to a copy
of any other drop/release/revision of the editor. Nor does that right
entitle one to distribute a *modified* version of any part of this
offering... including this note itself.
The terms of other (non-/) beta releases may be very different from this
one. If you come across another beta copy, please read the accompanying
"readme.txt" file before using it. If there is no readme.txt or the
date listed at the top doesn't seem to match the date of the EPM.EXE,
please contact us via one of the mechanisms mentioned below, to
determine the proper licencing agreement for that copy of EPM.
Disclaimer
----------
This is a *beta* copy of the editor. You should expect it to contain
bugs. To the best of our knowledge it contains no bugs that might cause
a loss of data. Nevertheless, be sure to backup your data often. We
also recommended that you insure that the autosave feature is turned
on. You can do this by invoking, AUTOSAVE ON. See the online help
for details.
Release Notes
-------------
As mentioned earlier, this copy of the editor is missing many features.
Because of the way those features were removed, you may occasionally
see cryptic error messages. The missing functions include, but are not
limitted to,..
A Toolbar
A macro compiler
Ability to link further macros like BOX, GET, PUT and, DRAW,
REXX macro support
Spell Checking support
WYSIWYG printing/previewing
Font and color rendering support
Enhanced regular expression searching
Host editting support
Because of the way these functions were removed, attempts to use these
features may result in odd error messages and perhaps even traps.
In addition to the features already contained in OS/2's Enhanced Editor,
this copy touts...
Faster sorting support
Long line support
The retail version of the editor is expected to be distributed with all
the features list above. In addition, it will likely include
Support for larger EX files
TAGS support
A printed tutorial
Improved visual appearance
Add on features are likely to include...
Voice recognition support
SGML support
Pen support (eventually)
Enhanced word processing support (eventually)
We also have a editor toolkit package in the works. It basically allows
one to include all the function of EPM within an application. As soon
as soon as we determine an appropriate deliverables, licencing agreement
and pricing basis, we will make it available. If you are interested in
it or simply have suggestions on pricing/packaging/etc, please contact
us.
What is WatsonWorx?
-------------------
WatsonWorks is just a small group of programmers at IBM's T.J.Watson
Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York, that have decided to
share much of the technology that has been developed within the company
and particularly within the Research Division. We are currently on
a shoestring budget, and are hoping to become self supporting shortly
after our initial product offerings become available. We're basically a
mom&pop enterprise and put in the commenserate blood, sweat, and tears.
If you are interested in marketting or selling any of our products...
or simply have some questions/suggestions, please contact us.
You can contact us via several mechanisms. The most expedient is via
the E-EDITOR CFORUM on IBMLINK or the OS/2 BBS's. We often respond
within an hour to questions posted there.
The next best way to contact us is by sending a note to our internet
address, watworks@watson.ibm.com.
Another alternative is to append a message to the internet or compuserve
discussion groups on OS/2. In the case of the internet news groups,
please include the keyword "EPM" in the subject to draw our attention to
your posting. We don't actually monitor the compuserve discussion
groups, but if you append a question there for us, someone is likely to
forward the question to us.
A final method is to call us at 1-800-954-0144. That number will greet
you with a canned monologue covering the current status of our product
offerings. That number also will take a message. Please only use this
method for contacting us as a final alternative. It is often quite
difficult for us to *correctly* transcribe userid's, addresses and names
left there. In addition, since this number is primarily used for
building our mailing list, we don't check for messages often. As a
result, it generally is not expedient for one to ask questions via the
800 number.
Our mailing list
----------------
Currently we are maintaining a "mailing" list of folks interested in
our upcoming offerings. We plan on using that mailing list shortly
before we make EPM available. If you would like to be added to our
mailing list please contact us via one of the vehicles mentioned above.
Please mention your name, snailmail address, telephone number, email
address, and which products interest you.
That's it. Have fun with the editor.
Jason.
