<pre width="80">
OpenDoc is the vendor-neutral industry standard for component software
interoperability. It enables the construction of compound collaborative
documents and customer solutions. This book provides a detailed overview
of the OpenDoc technology as implemented in OS/2 Warp Version 3.
<p>
The study of OpenDoc, which provides a new way of working with documents,
begins with a description of how an OpenDoc document is used. Familiar
documents of today and yesterday are compared to the new OpenDoc documents
format. The similarities and differences between these document types are
contrasted. The limitations of a conventional document and the benefits
of OpenDoc for both applications users and developers are discussed.
<p>
The terminology and structure of OpenDoc are reviewed along with a
discussion of the architecture and services of the OS/2 Warp Version 3
implementation.
<p>
To take advantage of the features provided by OpenDoc requires the
installation of the General Available code from the The Developer
Connection for OS/2 Volume 9 Special Edition. To assist in a quick and
easy installation of OpenDoc on your personal computer, a step-by-step
discussion of an installation of OpenDoc on an OS/2 Warp Version 3 system
is described.
<p>
To complete the study of OpenDoc, several scenarios describing how to
construct OpenDoc documents are presented.
