Hi,
Thank you for giving FreeLaunch a try ... <g>
--> If you just downloaded and unzipped this
packet continue with STEP 1.
--> If you already installed FreeLaunch and you
see this file by its client window continue with
STEP 2.
--> If you already opened the "Development" folder
and started "FreeLaunch Tester"
continue with STEP 3.
STEP 1
______
You already unzipped the distibution, but the
installation of FreeLaunch is not finished yet.
NOTE : FreeLaunch supports the OS/2 Developers
Toolkit, some objects the installation creates are
not useable if you did not install the toolkit.
FreeLaunch objects use NMAKE.EXE and
DLGEDIT.EXE from the toolkit. The OS/2 resource
compiler (RC.EXE) is needed to create
distributable run time versions of this product.
PLEASE EXECUTE FRLRUN.EXE it will copy the
distribution into a location of your choice and
create useful desktop objects for future use.
frlrun.exe is the run time modul of this
installer witch demonstartes its features by
installing itself.
you will find a new folder on the desktop after
you executed frlrun.exe. Please open this new
folder "FreeLaunch v1.3" and start "FreeLaunch
v1.3 RT".
Now you are at STEP 2
STEP 2
______
You already installed FreeLaunch with frlrun.exe,
and started "FreeLaunch v1.3 RT" in
the newly created "FreeLaunch v1.3" folder.
You should see this document through the client
window of "FreeLaunch v1.3".
As you see it has installed itself and created
several dektop objects.
You do expect that FreeLaunch is a configurable
Installer do'nt you ? Yes it is highly
configurable but you are now in its run
Time modul witch is linked with a compiled
configuration. Do not look for configuration menu
or something like this here ! Would you like that
your costumer could alter the way your program
installs ? I guess you would not. That is why
FreeLaunch is only configurable by its development
kit, witch resides in the folder "Development"
right here in the folder "FreeLaunch 1.3"
Open the Development folder now, close this
program and start "FreeLaunch v1.3 Tester"
Now you are at STEP 3
STEP 3
______
You already Installed FreeLaunch
with frlrun.exe, opened the "Development"
Sub-Folder in the FreeLaunch v1.3" folder and
started "FreeLaunch v1.3 Tester".
Now you are using the developer version of
FreeLaunch. It works exactly like the version you
have seen in the "FreeLaunch v1.3" folder. The
difference is : it does not execute a compiled
installation procedure, but it interprets a
configuration file.
This configuration file is written in a simply
but very powerful language. You may have a look
on this configuration file by doubleclicking on
"Edit Configuration File" in this folder.
Read about the configuration language in
"FreeLaunch v1.3 Technical Documantation".
If you alter the configuration file, you can
immediately execute it by "FreeLaunch Tester".
(You must re-start the test Launcher
after every change of the configuration)
If you are not satisfied with the look of
FreeLaunch feel free to Edit its messages,
dialog boxes and icons. All resources you need to
build a new Installer are included in the
distribution. Use "Edit Dialog Resources" or "Edit
error Messages" then "Build a new FreeLaunch".
You can build a new Installer manually too. Refer to the
"FreeLaunch 1.3 Technical Documentation"
Now it is your turn ... Create a launcher for
your own application. Enjoy the great flexibility
of FreeLaunch.
I am very interested to hear your suggestions
and comments about this product. If you decide
not to use this product e.g. because of a missing
feature you need, let me know about your wish or
problem !
If you decide to use this product, please
contact me by E-Mail.
You find the License agreement and order info in
"FreeLaunch v1.3 Technical Documentation"
Licensed users simply receive a license number
witch hides the announcement window at program
start.
Enjoy ...
