Designer quickly.
3. Refer to the DataAtlas user's guides as needed.
User's Guides
-------------
DataAtlas Dictionary and Designer (SC26-9134) and DataAtlas Modeler (SC26-9041)
have hardcopy user's guides with the order numbers shown. The user's guides are
also available in three other formats: Library Reader file, Adobe Acrobat file,
and PostScript file.
An order card inside the product box tells how to get a free copy of each of the
hardcopy publications.
The Library Reader, Adobe Acrobat, and PostScript files are on the CD-ROM in the
\BOOKS directory. The file names are:
EWSDD250.BOO Dictionary and Designer User's Guide (Library Reader)
EWSDD250.PS Dictionary and Designer User's Guide (PostScript)

2. Installing DataAtlas
=======================
Detailed installation instructions are located in the Installation topic of the
VisualAge DataAtlas V2.5 CD-ROM, found in the Electronic Showcase folder.
Shell Extension Conflict
----------------------
This conflict only occurs on Windows NT 4.0 when
additional Winlogon extensions are installed. The
install detects this condition and issues a message.
The install then exits.
The only known product with this conflict to date is
IBM AntiVirus V2.5.2 for NT. In order to install DataAtlas,
you should choose one of the following solutions (option 'a'
is HIGHLY recommended since you can encounter this problem
with other install programs):
a) Install the V3 level of IBM AntiVirus. This fixes
the conflict by avoiding the bug.
b) Uninstall IBM AntiVirus V2.5.2. Install DataAtlas, and
then re-install IBM AntiVirus.
c) NOTE: This alternative is dangerous and may render NT unusable.
Using the Windows NT Registry Editor, find the key:
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogin'.
The variable name "Shell" under this key will have a value of
"Explorer.exe, xxxxx" where xxxxx is the problem string.
- remove the comma and the string xxxxxx
NOTE: write this string down exactly and save.
- install DataAtlas
- replace the comma and the string in the registry being
careful to type it back in accurately!
If the conflicting Winlogon shell extension is not
IBM AntiVirus, the error message includes the name
of the program. You can bypass this conflict by following
options 'b' or 'c' above.
3. Migrating from TeamConnection V1 to TeamConnection V2
========================================================
If you want to access the data that you created using TeamConnection
DataAtlas V1, you must migrate your data from TeamConnection V1 to
TeamConnection V2. For more information, see "Migrating your TeamConnection
V1 Database" under the Installation topic in the Electronic Showcase folder.
4. TeamConnection Hints and Tips
========================================================================
We strongly suggest that you periodically freeze your TeamConnection work areas as you
are creating and maintaining persistent data. You can do this via the TeamConnection
client (teamcgui). Also, backup up your TeamConnection databases regularly just as
you would back up any important data.
For further information, hints and tips regarding the best way to take advantage
of TeamConnection, please refer to the TeamConnection readme file and the TeamConnection
Considerations section of the DataAtlas user's guide.
5. Modeler Version 2.5 Functions and Restrictions Not Cited in the Books
========================================================================
General
-------
After reading this file, you should:
1. Read the Installation topic of the VisualAge DataAtlas V2.5 CD-ROM, found
in the Electronic Showcase folder.
2. Refer to the DataAtlas Modeler user's guide as needed.
TeamConnection Work Area and Component Names
--------------------------------------------
The names of the TeamConnection work areas and components that you use in DataAtlas Modeler
cannot begin with a slash (/).
VGA Considerations
------------------
The default window settings for DataAtlas Modeler are not suitable
with VGA screens. To change the settings for VGA, do one of the following:
- Change all window settings manually:
* Open each window, resize and move it as required
* To save the settings, select the layout menu choice from the
object pulldown menu (the one at far left)
* Select 'Apply' for this session and 'Save' for default
- Use the default settings prepared for VGA screens.
* Change to the datatlas\lang\en_US directory
* copy cdmpar.ini to cdmpar.bak to save the standard settings
* copy cdmparvg.ini to cdmpar.ini to activate the VGA settings
When you open a data model all windows and dialogs should fit on VGA screens.
Diagram View Restrictions (OS/2 Only)
-------------------------------------
If you try to create a relationship between entities in different entity groups,
the system hangs on some machines and must be rebooted. This is a problem
with some display device drivers. Contact your hardware supplier to get the
latest driver version for your video card, or download the latest version from:
http://www.pc.ibm.com.
For example, for IBM PC750 Models P133 with S3 Trio 64V+ Chipset 86C76,
the pre-installed driver version 1.5B17 causes the error situation. Version
2.81.05 is available via the Internet and this works correctly.
Reverse Transformation Restriction
----------------------------------
During a reverse transformation, you cannot continue modeling on the
same client machine. If you do, you get the following error message:
"CDMtre4101I: Unexpected telegram received." However, you can continue
modeling on a different machine.
Transform a Data Model from or into a CASE Model
-----------------------------------------------
After you transform a data model into a CASE model, you should unload
the data model. To unload a model, make sure you are the only person
who currently has the model loaded; then close the tree.
After you transform a CASE model into a data model, open a diagram view
of each entity group in the data model. Afterward, you should unload and
save the data model.
Computer Seems to Stall during Document Generation
--------------------------------------------------
When generating a document, DataAtlas Modeler displays a progress indicator.
Sometimes the progress indicator seems to stall at 50%, but in fact it is
waiting for a program call to complete. Do not assume the hardware is
stalled. Reboot only if both (1) the progress indicator seems to be stuck
at 50%, and (2) there is no disk I/O activity; that is, the disk I/O light
on your computer is not blinking.
Hints and Tips
--------------
This section lists some DataAtlas Modeler error messages with hints on
how to solve the problem.
Note: On the server and in a single machine installation the DataAtlas
Modeler Control Server displays messages in an 'Info' window.
CDMcsr2014E: Error on binding name 'hostname.portnumber'. Port is in use.
Try again later or specify another port in the local '\etc\services' file.
This error can occur if you shutdown a DataAtlas Modeler Control Server
and immediately restart the server again. The TCP/IP port used to
communicate between clients and server is not released yet. Wait about
20 seconds and start the control server again.
CDMxxx: Cannot send to message queue 'nnnn'.
CDMxxx: Cannot read from message queue 'nnnn'.
These messages appear when you work with a DataAtlas Modeler client after
the Data Model Server has been shut down. Close the client windows and
open the data model again.
6. Dictionary Version 2.5 Functions and Restrictions Not Cited in the Books
===========================================================================
DataAtlas on Windows NT
------------------------
On Windows NT, the current directory is called DATATLAS\WORKING. These
files must be found in the current directory: ipf32.dll, cpdrdef.ini. The product
may not execute if they are missing from the current directory. If you
inadvertently delete the files, you can copy them from the \BIN directory.
If you close any notebook, folder or dialog window in DataAtlas while a
Help window is being displayed, the Help window will be closed. If you still
need the Help information, you can reopen the Help window from any
open notebook, folder or dialog window.
Using DataAtlas to access DB2 databases
---------------------------------------
If you encounter a problem using DataAtlas on Windows NT when trying to
connect to a DB2 for OS/390 database via a DDCS Gateway, add the environment
variable DB2CODEPAGE and assign it an appropriate value based on your DB2
for OS/390 code page setting. For instance, for a DB2 for OS/390
installation specifying code page 037, the Windows NT system variable
DB2CODEPAGE would be set to 437. You can do this in the Control Panel
folder, using the System icon and the Environment tab. Depending on
your country and code page settings, these values will vary. See your
data base administrator for the appropriate settings.
In general, you should consult your database administrator for the correct value
to use for DB2CODEPAGE.
Running with low resolution
--------------------------
If you are running with low resolution, for example, 640x480 mode, you
may run into these situations:
1. Cannot move a window with the mouse because the title bar is hidden.
- On OS/2 you can move the window by: (a) pressing the Alt-F7,
(b) using the arrow keys to move the window, and (c) pressing Enter
to accept the new position.
- On Windows NT you can move the window by: (a) holding down the Alt
key and then pressing and releasing the space bar, which causes
the System menu to drop down; (b) selecting "Move" from the menu.
2. OK button or other notebook controls are hidden.
- Use the System menu also to close the window and accept the changes.
- If the notebook has scroll bars, use them to see hidden controls.
==========================================================================
Populate
==========================================================================
General Populate
----------------
In some cases a populate operation after a trial run will fail with the
message that an object already exists. If this happens and there is no
object with the same name, close all workfolders and try the populate again.
Relational Database Populate
----------------------------
If, while executing a populate operation after a trial run, you get
CONSTRAINT VIOLATIONS such as:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6025-085E (Cardinality violation) with the following details
The attribute 'pContainedInRC' on object 'DSRORDIndex' has a minimum cardinality of 1.
The attribute 'pContainedInRC' on object 'DSRORDView' has a minimum cardinality of 1.
The attribute 'pContainedInRC' on object 'DSRORDTable' has a minimum cardinality of 1.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Close all workfolders and try the populate again.
==========================================================================
Maintain/Create Data Definitions
==========================================================================
General
-------
When storing objects, if you see the TeamConnection message:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
6021-141
The part <yourPart> in release <yourRelease> has been changed in work area
<otherWorkArea>. If trying to check out the part to another work area,
first it must be linked to that other work area or the other work area must
be refreshed from work area <otherWorkArea>.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do NOT link the parts to the other work area. Refresh your work area from
<otherWorkArea> to ensure that all updated parts in the first work area are
properly refreshed in the other work area.
PL/I and COBOL
---------------
DataAtlas does limited checking of attribute values, such as the Picture
clause that can be entered from the user interface. It is possible to
create structures that cannot be compiled successfully or that cannot be
converted successfully to another representation.
Naming Considerations: PL/I, COBOL, and IMS
------------------------------------------
When creating an elementary item in a Shared Data Structure (SDS) notebook using,
for example, the PL/I representation, if you specify an item name before checking
the "Use existing shareable data element" box, this item name will be used for the
other two representations. However, if you check the "Use existing shareable data
element" box and select a shareable data element to use prior to specifying an
item name. then the shareable data element name will be used as the item name
in the other two representations.
Name checking of an elementary item is only performed if the item is updated.
Thus it is possible to create an elementary item in the PL/I representation with
a PL/I-specific name that can be viewed in the COBOL representation. However, if
this item is updated while in the COBOL representation, its name must be changed
to an acceptable COBOL name.
PL/I and COBOL Maintenance
---------------------------
If you encounter a situation where more than one item in the tree view
of a Shareable data structure or Included source notebook appears to be
selected, then click on or re-select each of the highlighted objects in
the tree until only one remains highlighted. Do this in order to avoid
unpredictable behavior in either of these notebooks.
