ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. General Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 2.1 provides an installation program that runs
under the OS/2 Presentation Manager. Three components are available for
installation.
Sample Programs
C and Assembler language sample source and executables.
Online Information
Programming and tools references.
Development Tools
C and Assembler language headers and programming tools.
When the Toolkit Installation window appears, mark the box preceding the
components to be installed. This will place a check mark in the box signifying
the component is selected for installation.
The installation program installs the selected components on the drive that you
installed the OS/2 2.1 operating system on (the default drive).
To install one or more components on the default drive, do the following:
1. Select the Options.
2. Select Install.
Follow the prompts displayed in the message boxes to complete the installation.
To install one or more components on other drives
1. Select Options.
2. Select Set drives.
The Toolkit Drive Selection window appears. Each component you selected for
installation is displayed along with the current drive assignment. Make the
necessary drive changes in this window. After completing your changes, select
OK to activate the change. The Toolkit Installation window re-appears.
1. Select Options.
2. Select Install.
You will swap diskettes several times during installation. The message
Install successful on drive x
appears under the name of each component at the completion of the installation.
Exiting From Installation
To exit from the installation program:
1. Select the Options.
2. Select Exit.
For CONFIG.SYS changes to take effect, you need to shut down your system, then
restart it.

Use these choices to find out how to use help, to get extended help, to go to a
list of keys, or to go to the help index.
Help index
Displays the help index.
General help
Displays extended help.
Using help
Provides detailed information on the kinds of help available and how to
use help.
Keys help
Displays a list of keys.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Using Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to obtain information on how to use the Help facility.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. Extended ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to get extended help for the program. Extended help provides
general information about the Toolkit Installation.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3. Keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to see a list of keys and a description of the function of the
keys.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.4. Index ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to display the help index.
The help index lists the titles of the help information that is available.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5. Production information ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This dialog displays information about the application, such as version number
and copyright notice.

The list of keys is arranged in groups.

Use these choices to make drive assignments, to install selected components, or
to exit this program.
Set drives
Make drive assignments for each component selected for installation.
Install

Exit the Toolkit Installation program.

Install the selected components.

Exit the Toolkit Installation program.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. About Box Dialog ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The OK button closes the About Box.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Set Drives Dialog ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The drive assignment for a component can be changed by clicking on the downward
pointing arrow next to the currently selected drive and then clicking on one of
the drive letters appearing in the subsequent list. You can scroll up and down
this list by clicking on the arrow buttons to its right. You may also change
the drive by pressing the letter of a valid drive.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Report Error Dialog ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Some of the errors encountered can be fixed concurrently in another session, in
which case you may want to retry the operation.
If the error occurred while transferring files, the CONFIG.SYS will not be
updated and this component will not be added to the desktop.
If the error occurred while updating the CONFIG.SYS, all of the files have been
transferred but the CONFIG.SYS has not been updated and this component will not
be added to the desktop.
If the error occurred while adding a program to the desktop, all of the files
have been transferred and the CONFIG.SYS has been updated but the component
will not appear on the desktop.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Disk Overflow Warning ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
There was not enough disk space on the drive you selected.
Select YES to ignore the warning or NO to return to the Main Toolkit
Installation window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. View Files ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The files needed to view the on-line documentation are missing. These files
reside on the Operating System/2 Version 2.1 diskettes.
You may install these files by inserting the correct diskette when you are
prompted or you may use the UNPACK utility to transfer them yourself at a later
time.
