  1. ChapMan 2.0 for Visual Smalltalk

  5. Welcome to ChapMan,
  6.  
  7. a set of comprehensive and inexpensive application
  8. development tools for Digitalk's Visual Smalltalk for Win32
  9. and OS/2 system.
  10.

  12. Installation:
  13. -------------
  14. Startup you Visual Smalltalk 3.x for Win32 or OS/2 and
  15. file in the file "ChapInst.Cls". A dialog box will open
  16. where you have to answer the following questions:
  17.  
  18. "Source directory of Distribution files"
  19.   Enter the full directory pathname of the distribution
  20.   files (e.g., "A:\" if you have a distribution diskette).
  21.  
  22. "Target directory for application files"
  23.   ChapMan stores its applications (also called packages)
  24.   in a separate directory. Enter a full directror directory
  25.   pathname of the directory where you want to install
  26.   these files. If you enter a non-existing directory, you 
  27.   will be asked if you want to create it.
  28.  
  29. "Target directory for help files"
  30.   Enter the full directory pathname of the directory to hold
  31.   the online documentation and help files. The good choice
  32.   is the directory of the Visual Smalltalk help files, usually
  33.   something like "\vseo301\help".
  34.  
  35. "File in Version radio buttons."
  36.   You may install ChapMan either by filing in a set of Smalltalk
  37.   source files or by installing a Smalltalk Link Library SLL.
  38.   In the test-version you may only select the latter one.

  41. You may now open the ChapMan windows from the system 
  42. Transcript's Smalltalk menu. If you have a full version, 
  43. you should now enter your registration information to 
  44. enable all features of ChapMan.

  47. Documentation:
  48. --------------
  49. All documentation is provided online. In a Windows system
  50. you may open the file "ChapW20.hlp" with the "WINHELP.EXE"
  51. program, and in an OS/2 system you may use the "VIEW.EXE"
  52. program to read the file "ChapO20.HLP".
  53.  
  54. Please do read the documentation at least one time, as there
  55. are many powerful features of ChapMan that can be only used
  56. if you understand some important concepts of ChapMan
  57. (e.g. the powerful drag/drop support and multiple select 
  58. list boxes eliminate many menu choices you might miss,
  59. if you don't know about those features).

  62. Shareware & Commercial Version:
  63. -------------------------------
  64. If you have a commercial version on diskette, you will find
  65. the shareware version in the directory \share. You may
  66. copy the shareware version to anyone you like. But please
  67. remember that copying the commercial version or registration keys
  68. is strictly forbidden without permission from Parox.

  71. Known Deficiences and Shortcomings:
  72. -----------------------------------
  73. - Context sensitive help for dialog boxes is not available. 
  74.   Manually search for online help for information about dialog boxes.
  75. - Manipulations with applications are not logged in the change.log,
  76.   and can therefore not be reinstated in case of a system crash.
  77. - Test version only: after some time of testing the about dialog
  78.   box may popup several times in succession, but there is no infinite
  79.   loop. This is just to remind of the fact that ChapMan is just like 
  80.   any other commercial software: it must be payed for. Please
  81.   read the section "Contact & Ordering Information" in the 
  82.   online documentation.
