  69. ABSTRACT          IBM Operating System/2 (TM) (OS/2 (R)) Standard Edition
  70.            Version 1.2 and IBM OS/2 Programming Tools and Information Version
  71.            1.2 are now available with new functions.
  72.                   The OS/2 Information Presentation Facility provides
  73.            easy-to-use functions for the application developer to define help
  74.            panels and to service end-user help requests.  Traditional hard copy
  75.            Command Reference information has been placed online to increase
  76.            usability.  A new Dual Boot Utility allows OS/2 and IBM Disk
  77.            Operating System (DOS) to boot from the same fixed disk drive.
  78.            Further, enhancements will be made in establishing file system file
  79.            names, and a new printer device driver will be added in UPDATEs to
  80.            the OS/2 Standard Edition Version 1.2 products.  These UPDATEs will
  81.            be available November 30, 1989.
  82.                   All previously announced function is also available today,
  83.            including a new Desktop Manager user interface featuring iconic
  84.            representation, and a new File Manager that permits direct
  85.            manipulation.  A Systems Application Architecture (TM) (SAA) Dialog
  86.            Manager, a High Performance File System, additional device support,
  87.            and a windowed System Editor are also included.  Compatibility with
  88.            DOS Version 4.00 at the API level, and significant reliability,
  89.            availability, and serviceability enhancements are also provided.
  90.                   To assist OS/2 application developers, the OS/2 Programmer's
  91.            Toolkit Version 1.1 and the OS/2 Technical Reference Version 1.1 have
  92.            been combined into a single product, IBM OS/2 Programming Tools and
  93.            Information Version 1.2.  This new product has been enhanced to
  94.            support the new features and functions provided in IBM OS/2 Standard
  95.            Edition Version 1.2.

  137.            IBM OPERATING SYSTEM/2 STANDARD EDITION VERSION 1.2
  138.            The many enhancements available today for IBM Operating System/2
  139.            Standard Edition are an advance for the implementation of SAA on
  140.            programmable workstations.  The availability of the SAA Dialog
  141.            Manager in the IBM OS/2 Programming Tools and Information Version
  142.            1.2, and the enhancements to the Presentation Manager (TM) emphasize
  143.            IBM's commitment to SAA.

  145.            OS/2 INFORMATION PRESENTATION FACILITY:  The OS/2 Information
  146.            Presentation Facility provides the application developer with an
  147.            easy-to-use facility to define help panels and built-in functions
  148.            (independent of application flow and logic) to service end-user help
  149.            requests made during application execution.
  150.                   The easy-to-use OS/2 Information Presentation Facility
  151.            Compiler for help panels makes it possible for the panels to be
  152.            developed by someone other than the actual programmer, such as a
  153.            person skilled in building information products.  Later, the panels
  154.            and the application processing code can be combined into the total
  155.            application.  The OS/2 Information Presentation Facility can also
  156.            provide linkage to a tutorial and/or any other program provided by
  157.            the application programmer.
  158.                   Both Presentation Manager and Dialog Manager applications may
  159.            use the services of the OS/2 Information Presentation Facility.
  160.            Programmers who use the OS/2 Information Presentation Facility when
  161.            writing Presentation Manager applications can increase their
  162.            productivity by not having to support help requests directly.  They
  163.            have an easy-to-use OS/2 Information Presentation Facility Compiler
  164.            in the OS/2 Programming Tools and Information Version 1.2.  By using
  165.            OS/2 Information Presentation Facility, consistency with SAA Common
  166.            User Access (SAA/CUA) is enabled.
  167.            ONLINE COMMAND REFERENCE:  The usability of IBM Operating System/2
  168.            Standard Edition has been significantly improved by placing
  169.            traditional Command Reference information online, at the user's
  170.            fingertips in an electronic book.  This electronic book contains
  171.            familiar sections such as a Table of Contents, topic pages and an
  172.            Index, which are accessed through a Presentation Manager application
  173.            that can be windowed.
  174.                   Using the application pull-downs, a user can search for
  175.            specific words or phrases, maintain or view existing bookmarks, print
  176.            one or more topic sections, or cut sections from the book and paste
  177.            them to a file.  Individual command information includes the name of
  178.            the command, its purpose or function, the command syntax and the
  179.            parameter definitions.  The interface that presents the Command
  180.            Reference (online) is the same as that used by the OS/2 Information
  181.            Presentation Facility for presenting help panels.
  182.                   A Command Reference hard-copy manual may be ordered
  183.            separately.  Refer to the ORDERING INFORMATION section for details.
  184.            DUAL BOOT:  To make it possible to boot either OS/2 or DOS from the
  185.            same fixed disk drive, C:, a user may now run the new BOOT utility.
  186.            Whenever the user wants to change the operating system, the BOOT
  187.            utility is run.  Upon completion the user must re-boot the system.
  188.            The BOOT command runs under OS/2, the DOS compatibility mode and DOS.
  189.            NOTE:  Dual boot of OS/2 and DOS is limited to the file allocation
  190.            table (FAT) file system.  Users who want the High Performance File
  191.            System installed on the C: drive will be unable to have dual boot.
  192.                   For OS/2 system installation to install dual boot on the C:
  193.            drive, the drive must contain a bootable DOS 3.2, 3.30 or 4.00 or an
  194.            OS/2 dual boot installed system.  However, DOS 3.30 or 4.00 is
  195.            recommended for greater compatibility with OS/2.  Refer to the
  196.            product publications for further guidance on usage of OS/2 dual boot.
  197.            NEW FILE, DESKTOP AND PRINT MANAGER INTERFACES:  The OS/2 default
  198.            user interface has been significantly enhanced to provide improved
  199.            usability, additional function and closer conformance to the most
  200.            current SAA/CUA Advanced Interface Design Guidelines.  Refer to the
  201.            publication (SC26-4582) for additional information.
  202.                   The most significant enhancements are:
  203.            o   A new File Manager interface for displaying and manipulating
  204.                files and subdirectories
  205.                -   The File Manager optionally displays files as icons instead
  206.                    of text lists, giving a more pictorial view of files.
  207.                -   A program may be started by selecting an input file from the
  208.                    File Manager list, "dragging" the file to a program listed by
  209.                    either the Desktop Manager or the File Manager and "dropping"
  210.                    the file on the desired program.  Either OS/2 or DOS programs
  211.                    may be started by using the File Manager.
  212.                -   Files may be moved, copied and printed by using the "drag"
  213.                    and "drop" technique.
  214.                -   The File Manager font can be selected from any of the
  215.                    installed fonts, allowing the user to choose the amount of
  216.                    information displayed on the screen.
  217.                -   The File Manager provides an improved associate function,
  218.                    which allows data files to be associated with one or more
  219.                    programs either by file name or property.  When the file is
  220.                    double clicked, the list of programs is displayed, allowing
  221.                    the user to select which program to run.
  222.                -   A new search function allows the searching for files, using
  223.                    either wild cards in file names or file properties stored
  224.                    within the file to list files meeting the specified search
  225.                    criteria.  File lists resulting from searches may be used to
  226.                    manipulate files in the same manner as directory lists are
  227.                    used.
  228.            o   A new Desktop Manager interface for adding and starting programs
  229.                -   More than one group of programs listed in the Desktop Manager
  230.                    can be simultaneously displayed.
  231.                -   Icons are displayed next to program or group titles listed by
  232.                    the Desktop Manager.
  233.                -   Allows programs to be moved, copied or added to a program
  234.                    group by selecting the program from the File Manager or
  235.                    Desktop Manager list, "dragging" the program to the desired
  236.                    group and "dropping" the program in the new group
  237.                -   DOS programs may be added to and started from the Desktop
  238.                    Manager program list.
  239.            o   A new Print Manager interface for managing print requests.
  240.                -   Allows the user to direct print output to a specific print
  241.                    queue
  242.                -   Allows the user to configure printers/plotters and queues
  243.                    from the Print Manager instead of using the Control Panel.
  244.            DIALOG MANAGER:  The IBM OS/2 Dialog Manager is a productivity aid to
  245.            assist application developers in managing input and output between
  246.            their applications and the end user.  The Dialog Manager is contained
  247.            in IBM OS/2 Programming Tools and Information Version 1.2.
  248.            NOTE:  For information on redistribution of Dialog Manager run time
  249.            and files, refer to the TERMS AND CONDITIONS, LICENSING section.
  250.                   The IBM OS/2 Dialog Manager provides significant elements of
  251.            the interface for the SAA Dialog Manager discribed in the SAA
  252.            publication, COMMON PROGRAMMING INTERFACE DIALOG REFERENCE
  253.            (SC26-4356).
  254.                   Application developers using the Dialog Manager can
  255.            efficiently implement application dialogs that take advantage of
  256.            Presentation Manager facilities.  The Dialog Manager provides
  257.            application programming interfaces (APIs) for the dialog elements
  258.            dealing with display-related services, dialog variable handling
  259.            (function pools) and create/end dialog session control.
  260.                   The Dialog Tag Language (DTL), also described in the CPI
  261.            Dialog Reference, is used to define dialog elements other than
  262.            application program logic: application panels, help panels,
  263.            application command tables and messages.  The compiler to process
  264.            panels written in the DTL is contained in IBM OS/2 Programming Tools
  265.            and Information Version 1.2.
  266.                   The Dialog Manager and the DTL help the application conform to
  267.            SAA/CUA as described in the publication, SYSTEMS APPLICATION
  268.            ARCHITECTURE COMMON USER ACCESS ADVANCED INTERFACE DESIGN GUIDE
  269.            (SC26-4582).
  270.                   The general structure of the OS/2 Dialog Manager may be
  271.            recognized by current dialog developers (EZ-VU or ISPF), facilitating
  272.            the migration of current dialogs to the IBM OS/2 environment.
  273.                   Dialog Manager programs may be written in C/2 (TM) 1.1,
  274.            FORTRAN/2 (TM), Macro Assembler/2 (TM), Pascal Compiler/2 (TM), and
  275.            COBOL/2 (TM).

  277.            HIGH PERFORMANCE FILE SYSTEM:  The High Performance File System
  278.            manages large disk media in a fast and consistent manner.  The High
  279.            Performance File System is an attractive alternative to the file
  280.            allocation table or FAT-based file system because it supports DASD
  281.            with as many as 16 partitions and can handle partitions as large as 2
  282.            gigabytes.  The High Performance File System maintains compatibility
  283.            with the FAT file system at the API level, is less performance
  284.            sensitive as file sizes and/or directories get very large, and can
  285.            work with files that have either the traditional or new long file
  286.            name characteristic.  The system installation procedure is used to
  287.            optionally install the High Performance File System.
  288.                   If a partition is formatted for use by the High Performance
  289.            File System, the contents of that partition will be lost.  Copies of
  290.            existing files should be made before that partition is formatted.
  291.            After the partition is formatted, the copied files may then be placed
  292.            in the newly formatted partition and accessed using the High
  293.            Performance File System.
  294.                   Files created using the High Performance File System may be
  295.            accessed by programs running in the DOS environment of OS/2.  Files
  296.            created using the High Performance File System may not be accessed by
  297.            either DOS 3.3 or 4.00.
  298.                   The High Performance File System is implemented to be bootable
  299.            as the C: drive.
  300.            NOTE:  The file system will be enhanced to preserve the case of the
  301.            file name when the file is created or renamed.  Utilities will be
  302.            enhanced to allow for a space and other special characters to be
  303.            imbedded within quoted file names.  (To be available November 30,
  304.            1989 -- refer to UPDATE ordering information.)
  305.            NEW PRINTER DEVICE DRIVERS:  All device drivers delivered with
  306.            Version 1.1, either with the product or with its device support
  307.            supplement, will be packaged as separate media and shipped with the
  308.            Version 1.2 base operating system.
  309.                   A PostScript (1) driver is included with IBM Operating
  310.            System/2 Standard Edition Version 1.2 to allow applications to output
  311.            PostScript to the IBM Personal Page Printer II Models 4216-30, 031
  312.            and to other printers with PostScript output capabilities.
  313.                   A generic Printer Control Language device driver that supports
  314.            printers compatible with the Hewlett Packard LaserJet and LaserJet II
  315.            series of Printers will be available November 30, 1989, in an IBM
  316.            Operating System/2 Standard Edition Version 1.2 UPDATE.  (Refer to
  317.            the UPDATE ordering information)
  318.                   An Epson device driver is included with IBM Operating System/2
  319.            Standard Edition Version 1.2 that supports devices compatible with
  320.            the Epson FX80 (9 wire) and LQ1500 (24 wire) series of wire matrix
  321.            printers.
  322.                   IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition has the capability to
  323.            separately install device drivers if needed.  For example, this
  324.            capability can be used if a customer acquires new hardware in the
  325.            future that requires installation of a different device driver.

  327.            PRESENTATION MANAGER ENHANCEMENTS:  The Presentation Manager has
  328.            further enhanced its SAA/CUA enabling by providing more function and
  329.            greater usability for both application developers and end users.
  330.            Some of the CUA enhancements are enabled automatically; others will
  331.            require that the application be changed.
  332.                   In addition to previously announced enhancements, the
  333.            Presentation Manager now takes full advantage of the new OS/2
  334.            Information Presentation Facility.  Presentation Manager programmers
  335.            may produce help screens using all of the functions of the OS/2
  336.            Information Presentation Facility.  Use of the OS/2 Information
  337.            Presentation Facility by both the Presentation Manager and
  338.            applications, ensures consistency of use and appearance across the
  339.            system and applications.  The help screens for the Presentation
  340.            Manager itself have been produced using the OS/2 Information
  341.            Presentation Facility Compiler.
  342.                   Presentation Manager programs may be written in IBM FORTRAN/2
  343.            and IBM COBOL/2 (refer to the note in the section on IBM OS/2
  344.            Programming Tools and Information Version 1.2 on FORTRAN/2 and
  345.            COBOL/2) as well as IBM C/2 1.1 and IBM Macro Assembler/2.
  346.            OTHER IBM OPERATING SYSTEM/2 STANDARD EDITION ENHANCEMENTS
  347.            SYSTEM EDITOR ENHANCEMENTS:  The system editor in IBM OS/2 now
  348.            executes as a windowed Presentation Manager application.  Files
  349.            created with the Version 1.1 system editor are compatible with
  350.            Version 1.2.  The appearance and operational characteristics of the
  351.            Version 1.2 system editor are designed to the SAA/CUA definition.
  352.            IBM DOS COMPATIBILITY:  The DOS environment of IBM Operating System/2
  353.            Standard Edition Version 1.2 protects a user's investment in current
  354.            software by providing the capability to run existing IBM DOS
  355.            programs, subject to certain limitations described in the IBM
  356.            Operating System/2 documentation.  OS/2 SE 1.2 will have a larger DOS
  357.            environment than the one in OS/2 SE 1.1.
  358.                   Generally, the DOS environment is compatible to a subset of
  359.            IBM DOS 4.00 function.  Support for disk files greater than 32MB was
  360.            included in IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition Version 1.1, and
  361.            is available in DOS compatibility mode.  The IBM DOS 4.00 support for
  362.            greater than 25 lines of text mode display, and support for
  363.            additional video modes for Personal System/2 (R) (PS/2 (R)) displays
  364.            are also available in DOS compatibility mode.  The remaining new IBM
  365.            DOS 4.00 functions, such as the DOS Shell or LIM/EMS, are not
  366.            supported.  The interface for the DOS compatibility environment has
  367.            been significantly enhanced by allowing DOS programs to be started
  368.            from either the Desktop Manager or the File Manager.  The DOS command
  369.            line interface that resembles the one in IBM DOS 3.30 is also
  370.            provided.  The family API provided with IBM Operating System/2 allows
  371.            programs to be written that will run on IBM DOS 3.30, IBM DOS 4.00,
  372.            IBM OS/2 Standard Edition Version 1.1 or IBM OS/2 Standard Edition
  373.            Version 1.2.

  376.            RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY AND SERVICEABILITY (RAS):  The RAS
  377.            capabilities of IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition have been
  378.            enhanced with several new or modified functions.  Improvements have
  379.            been made for the collection, logging and reporting of detailed
  380.            information if a system error occurs.  These improvements permit a
  381.            problem to be isolated faster and more accurately.
  382.                   Consistency between the Standard and Extended versions of IBM
  383.            OS/2 has been improved by making the application of corrective
  384.            service appear more nearly the same on both products.
  385.            ADDITIONAL VERSION 1.2 ENHANCEMENTS:  Additional enhancements have
  386.            been made to improve data integrity, performance and usability.
  387.                   The system can now accommodate 64,000 file handles, 32,000 per
  388.            process.
  389.            HARDWARE RELATED ENHANCEMENTS
  390.            DEVICE INDEPENDENCE:  The display and mouse device support have been
  391.            rewritten for IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition Version 1.2 to
  392.            facilitate the attachment of other displays and mice that normally
  393.            may not have been supported by IBM Operating System/2 Standard
  394.            Edition.
  395.            NOTE:  Refer to the MACHINE REQUIREMENTS section for specific part
  396.            numbers and other pertinent information.  Also refer to the MACHINE
  397.            REQUIREMENTS section of Programming Announcement 289-218, dated
  398.            May 16, 1989.
  399.            IBM OS/2 PROGRAMMING TOOLS AND INFORMATION VERSION 1.2
  400.            IBM OS/2 Programming Tools and Information Version 1.2 has been
  401.            updated with the following changes:
  402.            o   The IBM OS/2 Programmer's Toolkit and IBM OS/2 Technical
  403.                Reference, separately available in the past, have now been
  404.                combined to consolidate required technical information in one
  405.                product.
  406.            o   The Dialog Manager and its documentation have been included, as
  407.                well as associated language bindings.
  408.                       NOTE:  For information on redistribution of Dialog Manager
  409.                run time and files, refer to the TERMS AND CONDITIONS, LICENSING
  410.                section.
  411.            o   A compiler for panels written in the Dialog Tag Language has been
  412.                included along with its documentation.
  413.            o   New documentation, IBM C/2 language bindings and the OS/2
  414.                Information Presentation Facility Compiler for the OS/2
  415.                Information Presentation Facility have been added.
  416.            o   Existing information for the Presentation Manager has been
  417.                updated and new material has been added to correspond with the
  418.                Version 1.2 enhancements.
  419.            o   New language specific information and bindings have been added
  420.                for IBM COBOL/2 and IBM FORTRAN/2 use with Presentation Manager.
  421.                (These language bindings do not support the OS/2 Information

  648.            significantly enhanced to provide increased function, better
  649.            usability, overall appearance and conformance to CUA.  Some enhanced

  651.            differently from IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition Version 1.1.

  654.                   With the following exceptions, programs designed to run under
  655.            IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition Version 1.1 will run under
  656.            IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition Version 1.2 and do not need

  658.            NOTE:  Customers who have compiled programs using IBM FORTRAN/2
  659.            Version 1.00 or 1.01, which are to be run on IBM Operating System/2
  660.            Standard Edition Version 1.2, must get maintenance level 1.02 of IBM
  661.            FORTRAN/2 and recompile their programs to ensure proper function and
  662.            correct results.
  663.                   If the application uses certain subsystem function such as
  664.            physical video buffer access, registering of subsystem functions, or
  665.            character device monitors, it will be required to run in a
  666.            full-screen OS/2 session.  Otherwise, the application can be windowed
  667.            by specifying it as RUN IN A TEXT WINDOW when installing the
  668.            application under the OS/2 Presentation Manager.
  669.                   Licensees of BASIC Compiler/2, Macro Assembler/2, Pascal
  670.            Compiler/2 or C/2 Version 1.0 may submit the CodeView Update order
  671.            form contained in the IBM OS/2 Standard Edition Version 1.2 package
  672.            to receive an update to CodeView containing advanced function for
  673.            debugging OS/2 applications.  The order form must be accompanied by
  674.            proof of license of the eligible language product being used.  IBM
  675.            will honor requests for the update until November 1, 1990.
  676.            NOTE:  This CodeView update is the same update made available for IBM

  678.                   Depending on the programming language used to develop
  679.            applications, some capabilities of IBM Operating System/2 Standard
  680.            Edition Version 1.2 may not be possible to implement in an

  682.                   IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition Version 1.2 does not
  683.            support the SYS utility or the /s option of the FORMAT command.
  684.                   The BACKUP and RESTORE commands are supported in protect-mode
  685.            only.
  686.                   Programs compiled using the Version 1.1 Presentation Manager
  687.            will run on Version 1.2 without change.
  688.                   The DOS environment of IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition
  689.            Version 1.2 protects a user's investment in current software by
  690.            providing the capability to run existing IBM DOS programs, subject to
  691.            certain limitations described in the IBM Operating System/2
  692.            documentation.  OS/2 SE 1.2 will have a larger DOS environment than
  693.            the DOS environment in OS/2 SE 1.1.
  694.                   Generally, the DOS environment is compatible to a subset of
  695.            IBM DOS 4.00 function.  Support for disk files greater than 32MB was
  696.            included in IBM Operating System/2 Standard Edition Version 1.1, and
  697.            is available in DOS compatibility mode.  The IBM DOS 4.00 support for
  698.            greater than 25 lines of text mode display, and support for
  699.            additional video modes for PS/2 displays are also available in DOS
  700.            compatibility mode.  The remaining new IBM DOS 4.00 functions, such
  701.            as the DOS Shell or LIM/EMS, are not supported.  The interface for
  702.            the DOS compatibility environment has been significantly enhanced by
  703.            allowing DOS programs to be started from either the Desktop Manager
  704.            or the File Manager.  The DOS command line interface that resembles
  705.            the one in DOS 3.30 is also provided.  The IBM Operating System/2
  706.            Family API allows programs to be written that will run on IBM DOS
  707.            3.30, IBM DOS 4.00, IBM OS/2 Standard Edition Version 1.1 or Version
  708.            1.2.
  709.                   Many existing DOS applications may be run in the DOS mode of
  710.            OS/2.  Users should be aware that some DOS applications, such as
  711.            communications and timing dependent programs, may not function
  712.            properly in the DOS mode of OS/2.

  1201.            attaches the keyboard and peripherals and inserts the Reference
  1202.            Diskette.  Power is then turned on and Set Configuration is run after
  1203.            the computer has successfully completed its initial self-tests.
  1204.            The Model 30 286 has a universal power supply with an external switch
  1205.            and may, therefore, be used worldwide.  Additionally, there are no
  1206.            setup switches.
  1207.            PROBLEM DETERMINATION:  If a failure is found at initial
  1208.            installation, an instruction will appear on the screen.  If the test
  1209.            is successfully completed, the system attempts to load an operating
  1210.            system from the A drive.  If an operating system is not found, the
  1211.            system attempts to load one from the C fixed disk drive.  If an
  1212.            operating system is not found, the user will be prompted to insert a
  1213.            diskette via an icon.  A final default is provided through the use of
  1214.            a ROM-loaded BASIC interpreter as explained in the GUIDE TO
  1215.            OPERATIONS.
  1216.                   The troubleshooting procedures consist of a power-on self
  1217.            test, diagnostic tests, and easy-to-follow troubleshooting charts
  1218.            designed to assist the user in isolating a defective machine element.

  1811.            Compatibility BIOS (CBIOS) with memory addressability of up to 1MB

  1813.            additional version of BIOS, Advanced BIOS (ABIOS) provides support
  1814.            for multi-tasking operating systems and has extended memory
  1815.            addressability up to 16MB.
  1816.                   The high level of feature integration on the system board
  1817.            reduces the requirement for optional adapters.  Memory on the system
  1818.            board can be expanded to 6MB (8570-061) or 8MB (8570-A61).  The
  1819.            optional 80387 Math Co-Processor provides enhanced performance in
  1820.            arithmetic calculations.  In addition, the system is designed for
  1821.            tool-free installation and includes security features in BIOS/CMOS
  1822.            and an external keylock.
  1823.                   The 486/25 Power Platform is an optional upgrade kit for the
  1824.            8570-A61.  It significantly increases performance by replacing the

  2083.            USER GROUP REQUIREMENTS:  The 8570 (061 and A61) products address
  2084.            customer requests for a range of fixed disk capacities.
  2085.            PLANNING INFORMATION
  2086.            CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES:  The 8570 is designated as customer setup.
  2087.            CABLE ORDERS:  No cabling is required, other than for system power,
  2088.            keyboard, and display connections.  Cables are provided with the
  2089.            system unit, keyboard, and display, and the instructions are provided
  2090.            as part of initial setup.
  2091.            INSTALLABILITY:  By following the setup instructions, the user
  2092.            attaches the keyboard and peripherals and inserts the Reference
  2093.            Diskette.  Power is then turned on and Set Configuration is run after
  2094.            the computer has successfully completed its initial self-tests.
  2095.            PROBLEM DETERMINATION:  If a failure is found at initial
  2096.            installation, an instruction will appear on the screen.  If the test
  2097.            is successfully completed, the system attempts to load an operating
  2098.            system from the A drive.  If an operating system is not found, the
  2099.            system attempts to load one from the C fixed disk drive.  If an
  2100.            operating system is not found, the user will be prompted to insert a
  2101.            diskette via an icon.  A final default is provided through the use of
  2102.            a ROM-loaded BASIC interpreter as explained in the Quick Reference
