WELCOME TO THE DIPWRITER SHAREWARE PACKAGE
------------------------------------------
WHAT IS DIPWRITER?
The Desktop Install Procedure Writer allows a power user or
software developer to quickly and easily develop a custom install
procedure for an OS/2, DOS or windows application onto the OS/2
2.0 desktop (Work place Shell). Desktop Install Procedure Runner
runs the custom install procedures written with the DIPWRITER
( Desktop Install Procedure Writer) package from TopDesk Software.
DIP Runner and the script file can be packaged with any application
the user wish's to have a custom installation program for. There
are no runtime licence fees for DIP Runner.
WHAT IS IN THIS PACKAGE
This package was designed to be used by an average OS/2 user
and to show some of the uses of a custom desktop install procedure.
This package contains DIP Runner (to execute the custom procedures)
and the DIPWRITER to write the procedures. An example procedure
is also included (DDEDIT).
The procedure DDEDIT will reorganise the enhanced and normal
editors that come with OS/2 2.0 to be more easily used in the
drag/drop world of the desktop.
WHY YOU NEED DIPWRITER
----------------------
Question: Would you like to create a custom work bench on one or more
OS/2 2.0 workstations without having to repeat tedious
template and settings modifications every time?
Answer: Use DIPWRITER to create a customisation procedure for the
workplace shell. Then run this procedure on any workstation
you would like to customise. Just think of the many useful
customisations you can create and distribute to other users in
your organisation!
Question: Want to update complex data files from floppy disks or over a LAN?
Answer: Use a DIPWRITER procedure to update the data files or programs!
Question: Do you need to install multiple Windows and OS/2 software packages
from different vendors onto dozens of different OS/2 workstations?
Answer: DIPWRITER can be the "GLUE" that holds all of the different install
programs from the different packages together and provide you with
an INTEGRATION of these different packages onto the OS/2 workplace
shell! This "GLUE" can be distributed with the floppy disks of the
other packages, or drive the whole install over a LAN!
Problem: Your a programmer but you don't have months of time to invest into
developing an install program for your new application or utility.
Answer: Do it with DIPWRITER and in only an hour or two you will have
a custom install procedure that would have taken you months to
do by hand!
Question: Do I have to be a programmer to use DIPWRITER?
Answer: Absolutely NOT! If you can use OS/2 2.0 you can use DIPWRITER!

USER SUPPORTED SOFTWARE
-----------------------
A word about user supported software:
The user supported software concept (usually referred to as
freeware) is an attempt to provide software at low cost. The
cost of offering a new product by conventional means is
staggering, and hence dissuades many independent authors and
small companies from developing and promoting their ideas.
User supported software is an attempt to develop a new
marketing channel, where products can be introduced at low
cost.
If user supported software works, then everyone will benefit.
The user will benefit by receiving quality products at low
cost, and by being able to "test drive" software thoroughly
before purchasing it. The author benefits by being able to
enter the commercial software arena without first needing
large sources of venture capital.
If you found DIPWRITER program an useful Tool to customise
your OS/2 desktop then maybe you should purchase a registered
copy. If you find that you are still using the package after
a couple of weeks, then pretty obviously it is worth something
to you, and you should purchase DIPWRITER!
Once you purchase DIPWRITER you will receive the latest copy
with a complete users guide. You will also receive information
reguarding updates.
