This is the readme file for the SSIIM program, version 1.4
WHAT THE PROGRAM DOES:
The SSIIM program is made for use in River/Environmental/Hydraulic/
Sedimentation Engineering. It calculates water, sediment flow
and water quality in three dimensions, solving the Navier-Stokes
equations with the k-epsilon turbulence model. The convection-diffusion
equations are solved to calculate sediment transport and water
quality constituent transport. The calculations are time-dependent
and an adaptive grid moves vertically to account for changes
in water and bed level.
The program includes graphical pre and post prosessors including
an interactive grid editor, vector and contour plots, particle
animations and 2D and 3D OpenGL graphics with colorshading.
The various modules can run simoultaneously by using the
multi-threading possibilities of OS/2. It is therefore possible to
view the preliminary results and/or interactively change the grid
and input data while the numerical calculations are running.
Examples of results from SSIIM can be found at the WWW page:

AVAILABILITY
SSIIM version 1.4 is freeware. It has been uploaded to ftp.cdrom.com.
Previous versions have over time spread to over 20 different
anonymous ftp sites around the world. It is therefore assumed that
this also will happen with version 1.4. To find an anonymous ftp site
near you, use a WWW search tool and look for ssiim14.zip.
CHANGES FROM VERSION 1.3 TO VERSION 1.4:
The main changes are:
- 2D depth-averaged water flow calculation added
- water quality module
- time-dependent calculations
- OpenGL graphics
- On-line User's Manual
OPERATING SYSTEM:
The program runs only under OS/2 Warp 4.0 and later versions.
CONTENT OF SSIIM14.ZIP
- "readme.ssi" : this file
- "manual14.lwp" : User's Manual, written in Lotus Word Pro
- "ssiim14.inf" : On-line User's Manual
- "ssiim14.exe" : executable file, optimized for the Pentium processor
In addition there are input files for eight examples. The examples are further
described in Chapter 5.3 in the User's Manual
SOME OF THE LIMITATIONS:
The program can only calculate with non-compressible fluid with
density and viscosity of water. Rough boundary conditions are used,
and wall laws for smooth boundaries are not included.
Non-orthogonal diffusive terms and stress terms are neglected.
The grid lines in the vertical direction have to be completely vertical.
Beside from this, the grid is general non-orthogonal. The grid is
structured, which means that the different blocks must have the
same number of grid lines in one direction. Some program features
only work for one block.
DISCLAIMER AND LEGAL MATTERS:
I disclaim all warranties with regard to this software and the
information in the accompanying documents, whether expressed or
implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and
merchantability. In no event shall I or my employer, SINTEF NHL,
be liable for any special, indirect or consequential damages or
any damages whatsoever resulting from loss of use, data or profits,
whether in an action of contract, negligence or other tortious action,
arising out of or in connection with the use or performance of
this software. It is not recommended that the program
be used for solving a problem whose incorrect solution could lead
to injury to a person or loss of property. If you do use the program
in such a manner, it is at your own risk. It is necessary to know
that to understand and interpret the program results properly, it
is required that the user has knowledge and experience in
computational fluid dynamics and hydraulic engineering.
Publications where results from SSIIM are presented should state
that the SSIIM model has been used.
Provided the user complies with the above statements, the program
can be used freely. The program can be distributed freely on
condition and that an unchanged copy of the User's Manual is
distributed with the program.
Future versions/upgrades of the program may not be freeware.
