need two diskettes. The first is the (unchanged) OS/2-Install-Diskette
that comes with your OS/2. The second diskette you need is the
"diskette 1" called diskette, which is changed that way that the network
drivers are loaded and a login to your fileserver is possible (e.g., for
installation or recovery purposes).
You'll have to make your own "diskette 1", a.k.a. "LAN Transport Disk".
Copy your card drivers on the LAN Transport Disk, and change the config.sys
to your needs. startrfi.cmd is executed when booting is complete, so you can
add program calls or whatever to this file. Don't forget the net.cfg !
If you want to install OS/2 from your network, please check IBM's CID.
The book is called "OS/2 2.0 and 2.1 Remote Installation and Maintenance",
IBM order no. is GG24-3780-02, price was 60,--DM. Read this book carefully,
because there are some mistakes in it. Programs for installing images
of the OS/2 diskettes on your server are included as well as response files
for batch configuration of your OS/2.
I've adapted CID to our needs, so that after booting and automatic login,
depending on a short y/n-dialog, the disk is partitioned, full version of
OS/2 and netware requester 2.1 installed, partition d: formatted and two
programs with approx. 30 MB installed with all entries in config.sys.
This whole procedure takes <...dramatic pause> 25 minutes !!
That's faster than using diskettes <g>!
You may notice that the requester version used on the LAN Transport Disk
is 2.0. The requester v2.1 takes too much space, and no problem has occured
using the v2.0 for this purpose.
Good luck in trying "my" way,
