  20. X┬╖File replaces the standard tiny OS/2 "open/save as" file dialogs with a full 
  21. height dialog (user customizable) and adds many enhancements such as drive 
  22. buttons, file and directory histories, launcher for file and directory 
  23. viewers/managers, and a frequently used directories list. 
  24.  
  25. The program will enhance many existing applications, such as DeScribe, System 
  26. Editor (E), Enhanced System Editor (EPM), SmallEd, Mesa/2, Home Page Publisher, 
  27. PMMail, BackAgain/2, FM/2, HTML Studio, PhotoGraphics, Netscape/2, EmTec's 
  28. News, Program Commander/2, NeoN Grafix Lite, PMJpeg, Adobe Acrobat, PMuue, 
  29. Iedit, Initor, PMMpeg, UNZip Shell, RPF Zip Control, Compuserve Information 
  30. Manager, Icon Editor, Icon Heaven, WebExplorer, Internet Adventurer, ZOC,

  38. The first time the program is loaded, an Options dialog appears. The next time 
  39. it is loaded, it will either minimize or hide, depending on the startup 
  40. settings. You can now use the default settings, and simply press the Hide 
  41. button to use. Then when any open file dialog is selected - such as from the 
  42. OS/2 system editor - you will see an enhanced, larger dialog appear. 
  43.  
  44. Press the drive buttons to switch drives. Click on a file in the file list, 
  45. then press the File Viewer button to view the file, using the default viewer 
  46. that you have configured for WPS objects. Click on a directory in the directory 
  47. list, then press the File Manager to open that directory using the default 
  48. manager - usually a WPS folder. You can press the right mouse button (or 
  49. shift-F10) over anywhere in the file dialog to show a popup menu that gives 
  50. similar options, as well as to show the X┬╖File options screen. This popup menu 
  51. also allows you to copy/move/rename/delete/shred a selected file, undelete 
  52. file(s), and create/rename/delete directories. 
  53.  
  54. Copy/Moves are done in a background thread. You can close an open dialog box 
  55. while a copy/move is active, but don't exit the application since this will 
  56. terminate the copy/move thread before it is completed. Re-display the open file 
  57. dialog to see if the copy/move action is still active. Status info is displayed 
  58. in the file info status line (see below). 
  59.  
  60. A file info status line appears above the file list and to the right of the 
  61. static text "File:".  To update this status, simply select a file (highlight) 
  62. in the file list below it. The status line displays in this format: 
  63.   Date Time Size Attr 
  64.  
  65. The date/time is displayed according to your Country settings (in the OS/2 
  66. System Setup folder). 
  67.  
  68. The size displayed is in bytes if less than 1K, in kilobytes (K) if between 1K 
  69. and 1Mb, or in megabytes (Mb) if 1Mb or over. 1K = 1024 bytes, 1Mb = 1024000 
  70. bytes. Sizes over 1K display up to two decimals, but actual size is 
  71. approximate.

  73. The attribute field will display a letter if set, or a dash if not set. R=read 
  74. only, S=system, H=hidden, A=archive. 
  75.  
  76. With the X┬╖File Options dialog visible, you can adjust the height of open file 
  77. dialog, set the file/directory history size (0-10), or configure your favourite 
  78. file viewer (such as list.exe or hv.exe) and/or file manager - simply type in 
  79. the name of the program to launch. 
  80.  
  81. X┬╖File will remember the last position on the screen that the open file dialog 
  82. appeared. 
  83.  
  84. Warning: If you set both 'Hide' and 'Remove from task list' options, you will 
  85. not be able to access the X┬╖File window from the task list. If this happens, 
  86. press the right mouse button (sft-F10) over any open/save as file dialog, then 
  87. select 'Show X┬╖File'. This option is also on the file dialog system menu. You 
  88. can also double click on the X┬╖File program icon to display it (might need to 
  89. do this twice).

  96. You must first de-install any old copies of X┬╖File before running the install. 
  97.  
  98. o Remove X┬╖File from your startup folder or startup.cmd file. 
  99. o Reboot - this is usually the only way to unload X┬╖Files .dll file. 
  100. o You can now delete the X┬╖File files (xfile.exe, xfile*.dll, xfile.hlp). But 
  101.   keep XFILE.INI, or copy it to the directory where you install the new 
  102.   version.

  104. Install 
  105.  
  106. You must first de-install any old copies of X┬╖File before running the install. 
  107. But keep your old XFILE.INI file - your old settings will be preserved. 
  108.  
  109. Files required to run X┬╖File are: XFILE.EXE, XFILEDLL.DLL, XFILE.HLP. Copy the 
  110. files to any directory on a local drive.  Insure this directory is in the 
  111. LIBPATH statement in CONFIG.SYS or that the current directory is indicated 
  112. (LIBPATH=.). It's a good idea to place a shadow of this program in the startup 
  113. folder. A reboot is required if you made changes to the LIBPATH statement. 
  114. X┬╖File is now ready to run (xfile.exe).

  117. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Command Line Startup Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  118.  
  119. /NM  - Force X┬╖File visible (overrides Hide or Minimize settings). 
  120.  
  121. /Pnn - Pause "nn" seconds before loading - helps prevent boot conflicts with 
  122. certain applications, such as Object Desktop 1.52 
  123.  
  124. /W  - Disable warning messages, such as 'Help not found'. 
  125.  
  126. Drive:\path  - default path to set each time an open dialog is activated. For 
  127. example, if "C:\MYDOC", then the open file dialog will always be set to the 
  128. "C:\MYDOC" path as a default. Do not append a trailing slash, unless using just 
  129. the root directory. Valid examples are C:\ and C:\MYDIR 
  130.

  141. When finished with the Options dialog, press the Hide or Minimize button to 
  142. clear the screen. X┬╖File is enabled at all times, and configuration changes 
  143. take effect immediately.

  145. Changing fonts 
  146.  
  147. Fonts are preserved for the file list box, directory list box, and the custom 
  148. buttons (File History, Frequent Dirs, etc). To change the fonts, open up any 
  149. "Open file dialog", then drag any font from the Font Palette (in System Setup 
  150. folder) and drop over the file list box, or the directory list box, or the "Dir 
  151. history" button. The default font for custom buttons is "10.Helv" - setting a 
  152. larger font might cause truncation of the rightmost button. Custom buttons will 
  153. display the new font when a new dialog is opened (after closing the current 
  154. one). 
  155.  
  156. Dialog height in pels 
  157.  
  158. Specify the height of the open file dialog, in pixels or pels. The maximum 
  159. height is shown to the right for the current screen resolution. If you switch 
  160. from a higher resolution to a lower one, X┬╖File will automatically adjust the 
  161. size to fit the screen. 
  162.  
  163. Maximum history size 
  164.  
  165. A history of both the last files selected and the last directories accessed is 
  166. maintained. This history can be set to a size of from 0 to 10 entries. Default 
  167. is 10. 
  168.  
  169. File viewer 
  170.  
  171. The file viewer is loaded by passing the current hilited file (in the open file 
  172. dialog file list) as a parameter to the program entered in this field. If 
  173. blank, the default OS/2 WPS setting for the file object is loaded (usually the 
  174. system editor, e.exe). You can enter your favourite viewer here, such as 
  175. LIST.EXE or HVPM.EXE. A path name before the filename is not required if it is 
  176. located in a path that is in the PATH statement in config.sys. Default is 
  177. blank. 
  178.  
  179. File manager 
  180.  
  181. Same as file viewer above, except the current selected directory is passed as a 
  182. parameter to the file manager. If blank, the default OS/2 WPS manager is loaded 
  183. (usually a folder is opened, or the drive folder if at the root directory). 
  184. Default is blank. 
  185.  
  186. Frequent directories 
  187.  
  188. To keep a fixed list of directories that you frequently visit, type in the 
  189. directory name, then press ENTER or the Add button. The directory is verified, 
  190. then added to the list on the right. To delete an entry, select it from the 
  191. listbox and press DEL or the Delete button. When an open file dialog is 
  192. displayed, simply press the "Freq Dir" button to select a directory to move to. 
  193.  
  194. Show drive buttons 
  195.  
  196. Enable this to display drive icons below the titlebar of the file dialog. These 
  197. buttons save having to use the Drive drop down list. Default: enabled 
  198.  
  199. Scan drive types only once 
  200.  
  201. Enable this to speed up the appearance of the open file dialog, by not scanning 
  202. for the drive types (eg. floppy/fixed/cdrom) every time the dialog is 
  203. displayed. It will scan for drive types only the first time the dialog is 
  204. displayed. If you are connecting/disconnecting to lan drives on the fly and 
  205. want an accurate list of drive types, then disable this. Note this option has 
  206. no affect on scanning for drive letters - it only affects the drive types. 
  207. Default: enabled 
  208.  
  209. Drive exceptions 
  210.  
  211. Enter one or more drive letters (case insensitive) if you do not want these 
  212. drives to appear as buttons for selection in the file dialog. For example, if 
  213. you wish to omit drives A:, L: and P: you would enter "ALP" in the field 
  214. (without quotes). Even if a drive letter exception is added, you can still 
  215. override it in the open file dialog by using the drive drop down list or typing 
  216. in the drive letter (such as "A:") in the open filename field. Default is 
  217. blank. 
  218.  
  219. Close file dialog when file history entry selected 
  220.  
  221. Enable this if you want the file dialog to automatically close when you select 
  222. a file from the file history list. If disabled, you need to press ENTER or the 
  223. Ok button to accept the file entry. Default: enabled 
  224.  
  225. Show in tasklist 
  226.  
  227. If checked, X┬╖File will appear in the task list (Window List). Turning this off 
  228. will allow X┬╖File to be hidden from task switching. Default: enabled 
  229.  
  230. Warning: If you set both Hide and remove from task list, you will not be able 
  231. to access the X┬╖File window from the task list. If this happens, press the 
  232. right mouse button over any open file dialog window (except the filename 
  233. field), then select "Show". You can also use the /NM command line option to 
  234. force X┬╖File to start in Visible mode. 
  235.  
  236. Hide/Minimize 
  237.  
  238. Selects the default action for the X┬╖File window when loaded. If set to Hide, 
  239. read the warning in "Show in tasklist" (above). X┬╖File will ignore this field 
  240. the first time it is loaded (i.e. window is visible). Default: minimize 
  241.  
  242. Test Open File Dialog 
  243.  
  244. Press this button to display a sample open file dialog, based on the current 
  245. settings. This button is disabled if another file open dialog is currently 
  246. active.

  249. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.1. Exception List ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  250.  
  251. The exception list is used to allow compatibility with other programs that do 
  252. not work with X┬╖File. X┬╖File will ignore a program by entering its filename in 
  253. the exception list. Up to 30 filenames can be entered. 
  254.  
  255. When entering the filename, you need to enter only the program name, without 
  256. the path. For example, the file C:\SUBDIR\APP.EXE would be entered as 'APP.EXE' 
  257. in the list. The name check is case insensitive. Only PM programs can be 
  258. entered in this list. Windows and DOS or OS/2 command line windows cannot be 
  259. used in this list.  Default list is: 
  260.  
  261. SOFFICE.EXE, SWRITER3.EXE, SCALC3.EXE, SDRAW3.EXE, SIMAGE3.EXE, SMATH3.EXE, 
  262. SCHART3.EXE 
  263.           Star Office (German version). Top buttons overlap, but X┬╖File still 
  264.           functions, so you can remove these from the list if you wish. 
  265. CORELDRW.EXE 
  266.           CorelDraw for OS/2. Preview doesn't work.

  268.           Lotus Organizer 4.0

  274. width) for an X┬╖File open file dialog. This might be necessary if you are 
  275. switching between screen resolutions.

  642. Matrix is an OS/2 PM strategy shareware game. The game is easy to learn - like 
  643. Tetris - but requires some brains - like Go. Matrix uses a set of coloured 
  644. tiles, where each player attempts to score by matching tile colours.

  646. The game is played with two players, with the opponent being either computer 
  647. (different levels) or human. To appeal to as many players as possible, the game 
  648. is fully configurable. Board configuration includes size of board and the 
  649. background displayed - either a selected colour or any bitmap. The shape and
