  8. PMAttrib is a simple utility to view and modify the standard attributes for a 
  9. file, directory, or directory tree. 
  10.  
  11. The following attributes are recognised. 
  12.  
  13.  Archived 
  14.            Denotes a file as archivable. It is mainly provided used for 
  15.            archiving software. 
  16.  
  17.  Read-only 
  18.            Allows the file to be read from, but not written to, or deleted. 
  19.  
  20.  Hidden 
  21.            The file will not be visible to the user, unless they choose to view 
  22.            hidden files. 
  23.  
  24.  System 
  25.            The file is to be used by the operating system(s). Users do not have 
  26.            full access permissions to system files; for example, they cannot be 
  27.            deleted. 
  28.  
  29.  Extended attributes, such as long file names, file versions, and other 
  30.  information, are not affected by PMAttrib.

  32.  Usage

  34.  The PMAttrib interface 
  35.  
  36.  PMAttrib is shown above. 
  37.  
  38.  There are four ways to execute it - 
  39.  
  40.      Double-clicking on the PMAttrib object. This is the easiest way. 
  41.  
  42.      Dropping a file object on the PMAttrib object. PMAttrib will 
  43.       automatically display the attributes for the file. 
  44.  
  45.      Dropping a folder (directory) object on the PMAttrib object. PMAttrib 
  46.       will automatically display the attributes for the directory. The selected 
  47.       directory is displayed with Find occurrences in subdirectories selected. 
  48.       This option allows you to set the attributes for all files in a directory 
  49.       tree at once. You may use wildcard expressions (eg *.txt) in the Select 
  50.       files field to set attributes for any matching files. 
  51.  
  52.      You may execute it from the command line with a filename argument, for 
  53.       example 
  54.       PMATTR C:\DESKTOP\MYFILE.TXT
  55.  
  56.       will show you the attributes for C:\DESKTOP\MYFILE.TXT. 
  57.  
  58.  Note:  PMAttrib requires that the standard attribute modifier, ATTRIB.EXE be 
  59.  found in your system path. Usually, it is in x:\OS2 where x: is your boot 
  60.  drive. PMAttrib will inform you if ATTRIB.EXE was not found.

  62.  To learn more about how your standard ATTRIB works, refer to the Command 
  63.  Reference in your Information folder.

  65.  PMAttrib's user interface provides - 
  66.  
  67.  ┬╖┬╖┬╖ 
  68.            Opens a dialogue, where you may choose a file to view its 
  69.            attributes. The current filename/filter is shown in the entry field 
  70.            on the left. 
  71.  
  72.  Find occurrences in subdirectories 
  73.            When attributes are changed by pressing the Change button, all 
  74.            matching filenames in subdirectories will be changed. This is 
  75.            equivalent to the /S option of ATTRIB. 
  76.  
  77.  Archive, Read-only, Hidden, and System flags 
  78.             Use the appropriate Switch on and Switch off to set or reset the 
  79.            current file's attributes. Select only the attributes you wish to 
  80.            change.

  83.            Sets the attributes of the specified files/directories to the chosen 
  84.            set. 
  85.  
  86.  Close 
  87.            Closes PMAttrib.

  92. To run PMAttrib, you'll need OS/2 Warp 3.0 or above. 
  93.  
  94. Run pmains.cmd. You will need to enter the operating system's boot drive. 
  95. PMAttrib will then be neatly installed into the x:\OS2\APPS directory. A 
  96. desktop object and assistance object will be created for you. 
  97.  
  98. To remove PMAttrib, simply delete PMATTR.EXE and PMATTR.INF in x:\OS2\APPS, the 
  99. PMAttrib desktop object, and the Assistance object in the Information folder.

  104. PMAttrib is provided as a fully-functional product with no limitations. It is 
  105. shareware and useable by anyone. Being a registered user, you will also receive 
  106. excellent customer support, for any query or problem, and be notified of new 
  107. releases. You will also be providing impetus for more exciting software 
  108. releases.

  111. Stellar-X by post. PMAttrib will cost you 
  112.  
  113. US $10 or equivalent

  117. PMAttrib remains the property of Stellar-X Pty Ltd. It is freely distributable 
  118. on any medium or site. All files from the archive must be intact when 
  119. distributed. We do not guarantee the software's reliability, although Stellar-X 
  120. would appreciate being informed of any problems anyone may have. Any damage or 
  121. loss incurred as a result of using this software is NOT the responsibility of 
  122. Stellar-X.
