F I L E I N F O 1 . 0
for OS/2 WPS
PLEASE READ THIS FILE IN ITS ENTIRETY! IT CONTAINS BOTH INSTALLATION
AND LICENSING INFORMATION.
W H A T I S F I L E I N F O ?
File Info, is a file information browser for the OS/2 Workplace Shell (WPS).
It utilizes OS/2's drag and drop abilities to retrieve detailed information
about OS/2 File and Directory (folder) objects FROM ANY WPS VIEW!
Informational items retrieved by File Info include:
The object's Filename (if a file object)
The object's Icon (from the .ICON EA.)
The object's File Type
The PATH to the object
The size taken up by the file on disk
Note: If the object is a directory (folder), the *TOTAL* size
is reported including the size of all of its contents,
including its subdirectories and their contents!
The amount of Free Space on the object's drive
The File Attributes applied to the object
The last modified Date and Time of the object.
Most of these items can be displayed using one of the alternate OS/2 WPS
views (except for the size of a directory (folder), the only way to do that
under OS/2 is with a DIR /S on the command line), but File Info allows you to
retrieve all of these data items with a simple drag and drop from *ANY* WPS
view!

This program was created using VX-Rexx 2.0b ( (c) Copyright Watcom
International), and requires the file VROBJ.DLL version 2.0b. This file is
*NOT* included with File Info. It is freely available on just about every
OS/2 BBS and on ftp-os2.cdrom.com on the Internet under the filename
VROBJ20B.ZIP. If you cannot find VROBJ.DLL version 2.0b, or higher,
through normal channels, you may call Watcom's BBS at (519) 884-2103 and
download it from them or contact the Author (see below), and he will get a
copy to you.
Installation is simple. Just UNZIP this archive into its own subdirectory
(for example C:\FILEINFO), insure that VROBJ.DLL (not included) is either in
that subdirectory or somewhere in the LIBPATH, and type OBJECT to create a
program object on the desktop.
After installation, start File Info either with a double click on its icon,
or by dropping a file or directory object onto its icon. Please read both
the Information (choose "Information" from the Help "menu") and General
Help (choose "General help" from the "Help" menu) pages. These contain
basic information on the general usage of File Info, and will (hopefully) be
very useful to the first time user. You may also wish to examime the
"Window contents" help page as well. It will give you detailed information
on all of File Info's fields.

File Info is being distributed as shareware, and is fully Copyrighted
(c) by Larry R. Tubbs Jr.. You are given license to use this product
for 60 days after which time you are expected to register to continue
using the product. File Info is *NOT* crippled in any way. Also, it
is not set to 'drop dead' after a specified number of days. It is a
complete, working copy of File Info. The only difference between the
shareware version and the registered version is that the shareware
version has the word "Unregistered" after the name File Info in the
Product Information dialog box.
For information on registration, choose Product Information from the
Help menu, and press the Order Form button. The cost is very reasonable,
so please support the shareware concept and the author by registering.
This will insure that fine products like this one will continue to
appear on BBSs and FTP sites everywhere.
You may distribute this product freely as long as the original archive
is not modified in any way.

At this time their is only one bug that I've found in File Info. When
the File Type on a particular file or directory is set to anything
other than "Plain Text", the VX-Rexx function that retrieves the File
Type returns the File Type minus the last letter. For example, if a
file called HELLO.C was set to the OS/2 File Type of "C Code", File
Info would display "C Cod" in the File Type field. Since this bug is
contained in the VX-Rexx function, and it has been reported to Watcom,
I can only assume that when this bug is fixed, this File Info code will
perform as expected. If not, a new release will follow soon after this
or any other bug is fixed.
