INTENDED OS: OS/2 2.x or greater
FILES: FINDIT.EXE Version 3.0 (program executable)
FINDIT.DOC (this file)
AUTHOR: Pete Graszer
PROGRAM DATE: 06/23/95 (Version 3.0)
PROGRAM PURPOSE: Find ANY file on your HD FAST!!!
REGISTRATION PERSONAL - $5.00
(Over seas registration does not need to be in US funds. But the
equivalent of FIVE U.S. dollars. I'm using the foreign currency to
teach my kids).
REGISTRATION CORPORATE - $50.00 U.S. Funds Only (Per Site)
FINDIT is not free! Check it out for 30 days. If you like it
please register it. ALL updates are FREE!
***********************************************************************
FINDIT - By filling in the program entry field, select the drive to
search, press execute button and FIND IT will find your
program/file in a matter of seconds.
PROGRAM ENTRY FIELD - When the program starts press <TAB> or click
on the program entry field. Enter the file you want
to find. Wild cards are fully supported. For example,
F*.* will find all files that start with the letter
'F'. *.EXE will find all executable files. You may
also enter 'os2\bitmap\*.bmp' and all files with the
BMP extension in that directory will be displayed.
DRIVE - This is the drive that you will perform the search on. All
drives starting with 'C' will read into the spin button.
If you have a floppy, just enter that drive manually.
EXECUTE BUTTON - By pressing EXECUTE the search will begin, looking
for the file(s) on the selected drive.
RESULTS WINDOW - This area will display all the file(s) that the
search found. This area will display the full file directory
and file.
FILE FINDS - This area will display how many file(s) were found in
the search. This was added due to my own curiosity, I
just wanted to know how many files were found. If a
multiple search is being performed, the total number of
all files will be added together.
STATUS - This row of indicator 'lights' display the current status of
Find-It. One of three lights will always be lit. Either
'IDLE', 'WORKING' or 'DELETING'. IDLE means no work is being
performed, WORKING means a search is in progress and DELETING
means a file is being deleted. Note that a long search (*.*)
will start displaying files in the Search Results window while
the WORKING indicator light is still lit (It takes longer for
the files to read into the window then to find them). When the
status light switches to IDLE is when the search is considered
complete.
Page 2
DELETE BUTTON - After the file(s) have read in the Results Window you
can select a file to DELETE. By selecting a file or
files the DELETE button will become available. Select
DELETE and the file(s) will be deleted after a deletion
warning message is issued. This has been updated to
include a 'Yes to ALL' button which will delete ALL
selected files without another warning message. A
'Cancel' button was also added to 'exit' out of the
whole deletion process. Note that 'Cancel' and 'NO'
perform different functions.
DRAG 'n' DROP - Drag any folder onto the Results Window and ALL files
in the folder (and sub-folders) will be displayed.
** OPTIONS NOTE ** ALL options are available in the shareware version
but has a 10 second delay. This delay is removed
for registered users.
SEARCH ALL DRIVES - The option to search all drives is in the drop down
menu under options. Select this in order to perform the
search over a multitude of disks. When selected, 'ALL' will
be placed in the drive spin button and the spin button will
not be available. Re-select to de-select to perform the search
on just one drive.
VIEW/EDIT - The VIEW/EDIT option allows you to view or edit files such
as 'TXT' or 'DOC' files. By selecting this option the
Execute button will change to say 'View'. When you select
a file and press 'View' the file will load into the editor
where you can read or edit the text. When you exit the
editor you will return to the Find-It program.
DIRECTORY STRUCTURE - By selecting this option the Program Entry Field
will say 'DIRECTORIES' and the 'Execute' button will be
hilighted. Select 'Execute' and JUST directories will be
displayed. By hilighting a directory, ONLY files in that
directory and all sub-directories will be displayed. You
may select files for deletion or select the DIRECTORY for
deletion. If you select the directory, ALL files in the
directory along with ALL files in it's sub-directories
will deleted. ALL sub-diectories along with the hilighted
directory will be deleted as well. This is the equivalent
to DOS' 'DELTREE' command. Please note that if you click
on a directory, then decide to click on a subdirectory you
will show 'duplicate' files in the results window. If you
decide to delete the whole directory the 'other' file(s)
will still show in the window. Though the file is deleted
my suggestion is to re-execute the directory command to
prove it's gone. I was going to perform the execute
automatically but decided against it when I considered the
"Select ALL' option. I left this up to you, the user, to
decide when or if you should perform another directory
search. (Warning messages are displayed throughout the
deletion process)
ADDITIONS - I would like to expand this program. If you have any
ideas please forward them to me. If I use them I'll
give you a free copy of the registered version.
(If you don't mind.)
