  7. Have you ever experienced the problems associated with running out of disk 
  8. space while running a complex application ? Did you ever have to recover your 
  9. data base records, just because you ran out of disk space while saving a record 
  10. ? Here is a utility that can help prevent such problems. 
  11.  
  12. Disk Watch is a utility which monitors the remaining space on disk drives. If 
  13. the space which remains on the drive reaches a preset minimum value, an alarm 
  14. is issued by presenting a message box to the operator. 
  15.  
  16. By using Disk Watch the operator can help prevent problems which may occur when 
  17. the disk system fills. When the alarm is issued, the operator can take 
  18. appropriate action to clear the file system. 
  19.  
  20. Several options are available in the Options pull-down menu to adjust various 
  21. running parameters.  These options are as follows:

  72. This pull-down option is used to bring up the drive limits dialog. In the 
  73. limits dialog you can specify which drive letters should be monitored by the 
  74. Disk Watch utility, and at what remaining disk space level the alarm is 
  75. triggered.

  82. In the Drive limits dialog you specify the minimum amount of disk space for 
  83. each drive to be monitored. When the available space on the drive drops below 
  84. the minimum, an alarm box will be presented to the operator.

  86. For each drive letter in the system you will see a check box. A check mark in 
  87. the check box indicates that the drive is checked while Disk Watch is running. 
  88.  
  89. To exclude a particular drive from being checked (such as floppy drives) the 
  90. check box corresponding to the drive letter to be excluded should not be 
  91. checked.

  93. We recommend that you do not check floppy drives

  95. You can specify the minimum amount of available disk space by entering the 
  96. value in the spin control next to the check box for the particular drive 
  97. letter. The value for each drive letter should be given in kilobytes (K).  For 
  98. example: A value of 160000 would cause an alarm when the remaining space drops 
  99. below 160MB of free disk space.

  104. This pull-down option presents the Preferences dialog where you can set the 
  105. interval at which the disk system is checked, the Repeat alarms option which 
  106. allows alarms to be repeated at regular intervals, and the Drive Letter and 
  107. Volume Label options which determine the look of the free drive space display.

  118. In the Preferences dialog you can set the time interval at which the disk 
  119. system is checked for free space using the  Check interval control.

  124. Use the Check interval control to specify the interval between disk space 
  125. checks. The interval is given in seconds and has a valid range of 1..60 
  126. seconds. We recommend a value of 2-3 seconds.

  133. If the Repeat alarms check box is checked, Disk watch will continue to alert 
  134. the operator that a drive is running out of disk space, even after the alarm 
  135. has been acknowledged. The alarm is repeated approximately every 5 minutes.
