These are the instructions on how to add PM Open to your system menu in OS/2, so that you can use the program without needing an icon or a toolbar/launchpad to do it. Eventually, I hope to write either a REXX script or a real installation program to automate this, but that will depend mainly on the feedback I get.
1) In OS/2, place the mouse pointe any where on the desktop, not over an icon or open program, and click the right mouse button once. A menu will appear. With the left mouse button, click once on the option titled either Properties or Settings. At that point, the properties/settings notebook should appear.
2) With the left mouse button, click once on the tab marked "Menu." You may have to move around the tabs to find it.
3) There are two pages to that tab, and you want to stay on the first one (Page 1 of 2). On that page, there should be two list boxes, one titled "Available Menus", and the other "Actions on Menu." There should be a line in the top box which reads "Primary pop-up menu." Next to the BOTTOM box, there should be a BUTTOM with the caption "Create another..." Ensure that the "Primary pop-up menu" option is highlighted in the top box, and then push the button labled "Create another..." in the bottom box. A dialog box should then appear.
4) The Dialog box should have two entry fields. One labled "Menu Item Name:" and the other, "Name:" In the first box, labled "Menu Item Name:" type in the following text "~Open." In the second box, type in the complete path to the file PMOPEN.EXE (Should be either C:\OS2\PMOPEN.EXE or C:\PMOPEN\PMOPEN.EXE). If you have trouble finding this file, use the find feature.
5) Click the OK button on that dialog box, and then close the settings/properties notebook.
6) Once back on the desktop, right click anywhere and at the bottom of that menu should be the word "Open" With the O underlined. Click on that option, and PM Open should start as it usually does.
This procedure will work with ANY utillity that you use often and would rather have on the menu than as an icon or on a toolbar.
