  7. IMPORTANT NOTES

  9. Do you have the latest version of PMdiff? Check the Araxis
  10. Web site (http://www.araxis.com) to make sure. You can
  11. order copies of PMdiff from the BMT Micro Web site
  12. (http://www.bmtmicro.com).

  14. PMdiff 4.0 is a real 32 bit multithreaded application,
  15. through and through. It is intended for Windows 95,
  16. Windows NT 4.0 and IBM OS/2 Warp 3.0.
  17.  
  18. PMdiff will _NOT_ run on Windows 3.x or IBM OS/2 2.x.
  19. PMdiff 4.0 is not intended to be used with Windows NT 3.51.

  22. INTRODUCTION
  23.  
  24. Araxis PMdiff is a graphical file comparison application. It
  25. works the way you work. Visually. Files are displayed side by
  26. side. Differences are highlighted and lines are drawn showing
  27. how the files are related.

  29. PMdiff allows you to select text from two versions of a file
  30. and produce a new version containing just the changes you want.
  31.  
  32. The Windows NT version of PMdiff enables you to compare
  33. directory structures and the files within them, quickly and
  34. easily.
  35.  
  36. PMdiff for OS/2 is fully integrated with OS/2's Workplace
  37. Shell. To compare files, simply drag and drop them onto the
  38. PMdiff object, or onto the running application.
  39.  
  40. PMdiff is highly configurable. Fonts and colours and other
  41. settings can be altered to show changes in a way that suits
  42. you. Check the friendly on-line help for details.

  44. PMdiff makes full use of OS/2 and NT's advanced features.
  45. Such as notebooks and pop-up menus (via mouse button two).

  47. PMdiff is an excellent addition to any OS/2 or NT software

  49. help for details of how to bundle PMdiff with your
  50. leading-edge system.

  52. Araxis PMdiff is available for IBM OS/2 Warp version 3.0,
  53. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 95.

  56. INSTALLATION
  57.  
  58. Run the friendly installation program (instos2.exe for OS/2 or 
  59. setup.exe for NT and Windows 95) supplied with the package. You 
  60. can install from floppy or hard disk.  You may also use the Add/
  61. Remove Programs icon in the Windows 95 Control Panel to install
  62. PMdiff (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs).

  64. Should you wish to uninstall the OS/2 version of PMdiff, simply
  65. run the uninstallation program, uninst.cmd. You may uninstall
  66. the NT version by using the Add/Remove Programs applet in the
  67. Control Panel.

  70. GENERAL NOTES
  71.  
  72. Araxis PMdiff for OS/2 makes extensive use of drag and drop. Use
  73. it to load files or change colours and fonts. Experiment with
  74. the second mouse button. It activates a pop-up menu containing
  75. many useful short-cuts.
  76.  
  77. The on-line help is comprehensive, although not all items are
  78. available from General Help. Check out the Help Index to make
  79. sure that you don't miss anything.

  81. Two pairs of sample files are provided:

  83.       hippo1.txt, hippo2.txt
  84.   and mary1.txt, mary2.txt

  86. You may wish to try comparing these.

  89. EVALUATION VERSION
  90.  
  91. PMdiff is the result of many months of dedicated development
  92. effort. It exists in evaluation and licensed versions.
  93.  
  94. The two version are identical, except that the evaluation
  95. version does not allow preferences to be saved, won't save
  96. merged files and pops up messages from time to time reminding
  97. you of the benefits of registering. You may distribute the
  98. evaluation version freely, and use it for up to 21 days.
  99. If you find it useful then you are asked to register
  100. it. This won't cost you much, and will gain you
  101.  
  102.   * the latest licensed version (on disk if you wish)
  103.   * free support via e-mail
  104.   * the satisfaction of supporting good Windows and OS/2 software
  105.   * a clean conscience

  112. LICENSED VERSION
  113.  
  114. The licensed version of PMdiff allows you to save your
  115. preferences between sessions and save merged files.
  116. This is to reward you for registering PMdiff.
  117.  
  118. You may install the licensed version on several machines.
  119. However, you must ensure that only the number of copies
  120. purchased are in use at any given time.
  121.  
  122. For example, perhaps you have bought only one copy. You can
  123. install it on your desktop office machine, and your laptop. Even
  124. your home machine. But PMdiff must be run on only one of the
  125. machines at any given time.

  128. WARRANTY

  134. HISTORY
  135.  
  136. PMdiff 4.0c Fixed a bug where PMdiff would crash when comparing
  137.             two files whose combined names exceeded a certain
  138.             size.
  139.  
  140. PMdiff 4.0a Fixed line-ending bug when Ignore All Whitespace
  141.             option is enabled and a merged file is saved.
  142.             Merge revision bar colour is now configurable.
  143.             Several other user interface tweaks and bug fixes.
  144.  
  145. PMdiff 4.0  Fixed hang when PMdiff minimized. Fixed intermittent
  146.             operation of mouse actions on the left file.
  147.             PMdiff no longer stores the window position if 
  148.             closed when minimized. Reduced frequency of messages
  149.             requesting registration. Fixed tab expansion 
  150.             problem. Increased message queue length so that
  151.             processing of command line arguments works even
  152.             if certain software (such as Stardock's Object
  153.             Desktop) is installed which posts extra messages to
  154.             applications as they start. Removed PMdiff tribble
  155.             from product information dialog (R.I.P.), and
  156.             replaced with the shiny new Araxis PMdiff logo.
  157.             Added quick start help screen for new users.
  158.             CR and LF characters at the ends of lines are now
  159.             considered to be whitespace when doing whitespace
  160.             insensitive comparisons (hence you can't view trailing
  161.             CR/LF characters when ignoring whitespace).
  162.             If you find any faults in this version, let us know
  163.             because we've fixed everything reported so far.

  165. PMdiff 3.1  Fixed several faults introduced in 3.0, and some
  166.             existing faults that surfaced during extensive
  167.             stress testing.
  168.  
  169. PMdiff 3.0  All known outstanding faults fixed. Go to
  170.             next/previous difference buttons, keyboard support
  171.             and file merge capability added. Also, optional
  172.             display of CR/LF characters and line numbers.
  173.             Icon updated. Tribble has experimented with
  174.             eye-shadow.

  176.             First port to Windows NT 3.5 and Windows 95. The 
  177.             OS/2 version is for OS/2 Warp 3.0 and higher only.
