BROWSE/2(tm)
An OS/2 Presentation Manager Program
by Jeannine Wolf
Copyright 1988, 1989 Wolf Software Design. All rights reserved.
INTRODUCING BROWSE/2
Browse/2 is a Presentation Manager program for viewing files in
ASCII or hexadecimal dump format. It enables you to scroll
forward and backward in a file and to pan long lines
horizontally. You can also search for specific words or phrases
in the file and see them displayed in context.
Browse/2 never alters the contents of a file. It shares the file
you are browsing with other programs, unless another program
demands exclusive access to the file.
Version 1.2 of the program is distributed as shareware. It is
limited to displaying the first 64KB of a file. This constraint
will be removed in the next release of Browse/2.
STARTING BROWSE/2
You have several ways to start Browse/2. From an OS/2 command
line prompt, type: BROWSE2 (or) BROWSE2 filename
You may want to add Browse/2 to the Presentation Manager Start
Programs menu. To do this, click on the Start Programs window
and select the Add command from its Program menu. Browse/2 does
not require any special parameters or specific working directory.
Once Browse/2 is running, you can click the mouse on the Help
menu, or press the F1 key for complete instructions.
NEW FEATURES
Version 1.1 added screen colors based on preferences set with the
Presentation Manager Control Panel. It also added more scrolling
keys: Home and End for beginning and end of line and Ctrl+Home
and Ctrl+End for beginning and end of file.
Version 1.2 features improved scrolling, including faster
operation and ability to view a file while scrolling with the
slider. It also introduces a choice of fonts and font styles and
sizes: system font, Courier, Helvetica, or Times Roman.
Other new capabilities in Version 1.2 include improved error
handling and a new file open dialog with separate list boxes for
disk drives, directories, and files. The Browse/2 signon message
uses the logo specifications set with the Presentation Manager
Control Panel. If you have set a time limit for logo displays,
the message will fade out when the time elapses. If you have not
set a time limit or suppressed logo displays, click on the
Continue button or press the Enter key to begin operation when
the logo appears.
