  8.                 This is the section of VCONFIG in which you can configure
  9.          and optimize VBBS' use of your hard-drive space.
  10.  
  11.          1) Main VBBS Directory  (\VBBS)
  12.             ═══════════════════
  13.                 The system executables (*.EXE) belong in this directory,
  14.                 along with WFC.COM and your configuration (*.CFG) files.
  15.         This should be your current directory when you are exe-
  16.         cuting the program.  A typical path might be
  17.  
  18.             C:\VBBS

  20.      2) Scripts Directory  (\V)

  22.         This is where VBBS expects to find any script and func-
  23.         tion-block files:

  25.            *.V     *.COD     *.LIT     *.FB

  27.      3) Data Directory  (\DATA)

  29.         Where VBBS expects to find system data files:

  31.            USERFILE.DAT     CONNECT .DAT     NET.1 ... NET.999

  35.      4) System Text Files  (\TXT)
  36.         ═════════════════
  37.         Where VBBS expects to find system text files:

  39.                    *.TXT     *.ANS    *.ASC     *.MNU     *.PDM  *.RIP

  41.         Note that many online-game programs generate score files
  42.         that may be placed in this directory and viewed using the
  43.         [B]ulletins option from the Main Menu.

  45.      5)  CONTROL.DAT Directory
  46.          ═════════════════════
  47.         Specifies in which directory VBBS will maintain the tem-
  48.         porary system file containing the current user's informa-
  49.         tion.  Multi-user installations NEED to set up a RAMdrive
  50.         for this file; the same is also *recommended* for single-
  51.         line installations (see "Optimizing VBBS" for details on
  52.         setting up a RAMdrive).

  54.      6) Temporary Directory  (\TEMP)
  55.         ═══════════════════
  56.         This is the directory VBBS will use for temporary storage
  57.         of incoming network packets and files.  The directory you
  58.         specify here should not be used for any other purpose,

  63.         and it is NOT recommended that you use a RAMdrive for this
  64.         directory (if the power goes, you could lose an entire net
  65.         packet).

  67.      7) Database Directory  (\DB)
  68.         ══════════════════
  69.         This is the directory where VBBS will store ALL database
  70.         information, such as messages and file descriptions.

  72.      8) Upload/E-Mail Directory  (\SYSOP)
  73.         ═══════════════════════
  74.         Specifies path for storage of E-mail with attached files
  75.         and uploads from users (if you have all uploads going to
  76.         the \SYSOP directory).

  78.      --> IMPORTANT NOTE:  You may specify whatever paths you wish for
  79.                   these directories (and will need to for di-
  80.                   rectories you wish to place in a RAMdrive),
  81.                   but it is much less confusing to use the
  82.                   default paths set up by the INSTALL.EXE
  83.                   program.

  85.                   It is recommended that you run the system
  86.                   diagnostics anytime you alter any of the
  87.                   settings in this section of VCONFIG, to en-
  88.                   sure that VBBS can find the files it needs
  89.                   in order to operate properly.
