BULLETRON WHO COMMAND HELP
The WHO command is used to retrieve information about users of your
Bulletron system.
The information that is usually displayed by the WHO command looks
something like this:
ACCOUNT Name/Handle City, State 10/27/87 15:55 49/604
$Description line 1
Description line 2
Description line 3
FIRST LINE:
ACCOUNT is the user's account code.
The name or "handle" the user entered is displayed in the Name/Handle
field.
The location the user entered is displayed in the City, State field.
The date and time to the right of the City, State field is the date and
time of the user's last call.
The two figures to the right of the date and time (separated by a slash)
are the number of times the user has called and the user's total
accumulated minutes of use, respectively. You can use these figures
as an indication of the probability that you will get a response if
you send private mail to this user. If you see that the last time
someone called was a month ago and his total number of calls is low,
then your chances of getting a response are slim.
SECOND THROUGH FOURTH LINES:
"$" on the second line indicates that the user is a paid subscriber/user
of your system, if your system has subscriber accounts. It is best
to be cautious about exchanging mail with non-subscribers, as they
may be persons of dubious character.
Description lines 1, 2 & 3 are the three-line personal description
users enter when they first log on to the system. Some systems may
use a 1-line description, using the hidden part of the user record
for name, address and phone number information that only the system
operator can see.
NOTE:
These commands will show only those users who have access to the
sub-board which you have currently selected. If you want to see
ALL the users of this system, then select the Personal Mail
sub-board before executing the WHO command. If you want to see
who the members of a special interest group are, then select that
SIG's sub-board before using the WHO command.
Here is what the various "Who" sub-commands will do for you:
"WL"
This command allows you to list, in forward order by date and time, all
users who have logged on since your last logon.
"WN"
Lists forward, by date and time of their last logon, "new users", those
with five or fewer calls, who have been on your system since your last
logon.
"WT"
This allows you to list, by time of their last logon, all users who have
called TODAY (since the previous midnight).
"WO"
This command allows you to list the account codes of the users currently
online with your system, including yourself, the phone line they are on,
and the command that they are executing. Here is a example of the "WO"
command display:
Users Currently Online
Line Account Cmnd
2 KIDD
3 RYTR E
4 A713 RB
5 0COP P6
6 SYSOP P5
5 of 10 lines in use.
In the above example, account KIDD, who called in on line 2, is waiting
at the main command prompt (doing nothing at the moment). Account RYTR,
on line 3, is entering a message with the "E" command. Account A713, on
line 4, is reading messages with the "RB" command. Account 0COP on line
5, is in private chat with the user on line 6 and SYSOP, on line 6, is
in private chat with 0COP. The system is configured for ten users, and
five of the ten available phone lines are in use.
"WF"
This command shows you a complete list of ALL users on the system, who
have access to the sub-board which you currently have selected, in
ascending order (0-9, A-Z) by account code. If you wish to start your
listing at a particular point in the file, you can enter "WF xxxx",
where "xxxx" is the account code with which you wish to begin the
listing. Bear in mind that it will take some time to display the
listing if your system has many users. A "WF" listing of 1,000 users
will take about 25 minutes at 1200 baud.
"WB"
This command shows you a complete list of ALL users on the system, who
have access to the sub-board which you currently have selected, in
ascending order (Z-A, 9-0) by account code. If you wish to start your
listing at a particular point in the file, you can enter "WF xxxx",
where "xxxx" is the account code with which you wish to begin the
listing.
"WA xxxx"
This command allows you to display the ID line and personal description
lines of account "xxxx". This command will display ONLY the information
for that account. None of the private information, shown for your own
account when you use the "WM" command, is displayed. If there is a
matchmaker questionnaire associated with the sub-board you have selected
when you issue this command, and if the user has answered that
questionnaire, then the user's answers to the questionnaire are also
displayed. See the Matchmaker Help message ("MH" command) for more
information on the MATCH features.
"WM"
This command shows you your ID line and personal description line as
others see it when they enter "WA xxxx". You will also see other
confidential information about your account, including the time
remaining in your subscriber account, if applicable, the codes for
Special Interest Group, SIG, sub-boards to which you have access, the
number of messages you have sent and received, etc. You will not see
this confidential information in other users' listings, nor will other
users see this information about you.
"WS"
This command allows you to search through the BBS's entire user file
database, that is, any of the personal data a user can enter, for a
string of up to 20 characters. This command will search both the ID
line and the personal description line of all users who have access to
the sub-board which you have currently selected. It ignores upper/lower
case while searching.
For example, if you remember that a user had entered "Beverly Hills" in
his description line, you can enter "WS HILLS". Bulletron will find and
display the user information for all users who have entered HILLS
somewhere in their personal data, no matter where it appears. For
example, the above command will find and list users who entered "Beverly
Hills", "Woodland Hills", "Hollywood Hills", "Granada Hills", "Hillside
Springs", "Hillsdale", etc., in the city field ... but it will also
find "Head for the hills!" or "The hills are alive with the sound of
music" in a description line, or the account HILLS.
The system will display dots on your screen while it is searching. A
dot is displayed for each account the system examines while it is
searching. To make the search faster, the accounts found, and
displayed, during the search will not appear in any particular order.
"WG"
This command lets you list user accounts by city within state. Like
"WF" and "WB", it only shows you users who can access the sub-board, or
section, that you have currently selected. You can also enter "WG xx"
to restrict the list to a particular state code, "xx". This command is
only available if the system operator sets up the system for one line
personal descriptions, as Bulletron does not retain state information when
three line descriptions are used.
"WOL"
This command functions like the "WO" command, however, it returns the
full ID line and personal description lines of the users currently
on-line, rather than the brief listing shown above. The phone line that
each user is using and the command that the user is performing appear on
a separate line below the user's description line(s).
"WOR"
This command allows you to display the brief listing of the "WO" command
and repeat that listing every five seconds until you interrupt the
display with CONTROL-K, or until three minutes have elapsed.
