BULLETRON READ/SUMMARY HELP
The options available with an Bulletron Read command are:
<L> New messages added since LAST logon
<B> All messages BACKWARD (latest to oldest)
<F> All messages FORWARD (oldest to latest)
<S text> SEARCH messages on this section for "text"
<M> Private messages to MYSELF
<# nnnnn> Message number "nnnnn" only
<nnnnn> Message number "nnnnn" only
<A xxxx> All messages to and from account xxxx
<Z xxxx> All messages to account xxxx
<C> COMPLETE new messages on all sections
<R> RESTART an RL or SL command
<H> HELP!!!
<K> KILL process (return to main system prompt)
All of these sub-commands apply equally to both the READ and SUMMARY
commands. Although the following descriptions involve reading messages,
remember that you may also use any of these sub-commands with the
Summary command.
Here is what these commands will do for you:
"RL" (SL)
This command allows you to read all of the messages, on the sub-board
(section) that you have currently selected, which have been entered or
modified since YOUR last logon to the BBS. The messages are listed in
forward sequence by date and time. Remember that, if you skip over some
sub-boards on this call, then the messages on it which are new during
this call will not be new, and probably not shown to you, during your
next call.
"RB" (SB)
Use this command to catch the messages you missed by skipping over
sub-boards (see "RL", above). This command shows you ALL the messages,
on the sub-board that you currently have selected, BACKWARD, by date and
time of last modification. The messages are presented in order of most
recent activity, with the newest message first.
"RF" (SF)
This command is similar to the "RB" command, the only difference being
that the messages are in order by ascending date and time.
"RS" (SS)
This command allows you to do a SEARCH through the message summaries on
the current sub-board for messages with summaries containing a "string"
of characters. You are prompted to enter a "string" of characters for
which to search. Bulletron displays dots on your screen while it is
searching. A dot is displayed for each message the system examines
while it is searching. Your system operator can enable the system to
search the message text as well as the summaries. Messages are
presented in order by date so that you can use "RS" on an "echo"
sub-board to read successive comments on a certain message, in spite
of the fact that comments on echo messages can not be chained like
messages on non-echo sub-boards.
"RM" (SM)
This command shows you only personal messages, which are addressed to
you. This command works only on the Personal Mail sub-board because
Bulletron automatically forwards all private messages to the Personal Mail
sub-board when they are created. This command shows you messages "to"
your account. You can use "RA" to see messages "from" your account as
well.
"R# 9999", or
"#9999", or
"9999"
Any of these three commands will show you message #9999. You may, if
you wish, enter R# followed by the number of the message, but that's not
necessary, all you need is the message number to read any message you
see in an Bulletron system.
"RA xxxx" (SA xxxx)
This command shows you all of the messages to or from account "xxxx",
backwards by last modification date. You can use this command to
summarize or read all messages to or from you. It is especially useful
on the Personal Mail sub-board.
"RZ xxxx" (SZ xxxx)
This command shows you all of the messages to account "xxxx". All
public messages in an Bulletron system are addressed to "ALL". On the
Personal Mail sub-board, you can see all the messages that you sent to a
certain account. You can also read them and delete them.
"RC" (SC)
This command shows you of the all messages entered on the COMPLETE
system, since your last logon. Personal messages are included only if
this command is executed from the Personal Mail sub-board. This command
allows you to see messages on all sub-boards without going to each
sub-board individually.
"RR" (SR)
This command allows you to RESTART an "RL" or "SL" sequence that you
have interrupted for some reason, beginning with the last message header
you saw. This command is very handy if you choose to break out of the
"RL" sequence to do something else -- for example, to go into chat, or
if you are the system operator, change a user's account balance when he
purchases a subscription using a credit card. This command works ONLY
if you actually interrupt an RL or SL sequence and have not selected to
a different sub-board.
"RH" (SH)
Displays this help message!
--- CONTROL COMMANDS YOU CAN USE WHILE READING A MESSAGE ---
(Note that it is not necessary to use the CONTROL key with these
commands, although you may find it convenient to do so.)
CONTROL-B Jump back to the beginning of the previous comment, or to
the beginning of the message.
CONTROL-C Skip to end of message.
CONTROL-K Abort: Entering CONTROL-K at any time will abort the
current command and return you to the main command prompt.
CONTROL-S Tells Bulletron to stop or start sending characters.
SPACE BAR Tells Bulletron to stop or start sending characters.
CONTROL-V Skip forward in the message 1000 characters.
CONTROL-X Skip to next comment, if any.
CONTROL-Z Skip to the first (or next) comment entered since your last
logon, if any.
----COMMANDS TO USE AT THE "END OF MESSAGE" COMMAND LINE----
When you reach the end of a message, Bulletron presents you a list of
options. With the exception of AUTOPOLL messages, the "End of Message"
command line looks like this:
Enter C,W,A,B,D,F,E,#99999,K,? OR [RETURN]
Here is what the "End of Message" commands do:
"C"
This command allows you to add a comment to the end of the message. See the
"Enter" command help message for further details.
"W"
This command displays the identification and description lines of the
user whose account is shown as the "from" account in the message header.
Use this command to "check out" someone who originated a public message
without leaving your read sequence.
"A xxxx"
This command displays the identification line and description lines of
an arbirtary account "xxxx". This command is handy if you wish to
"check out" someone who has posted a comment, not necessarily the
message originator, to a message without leaving your read sequence.
"B"
This command allows you to display the entire message again, from the
BEGINNING.
"D"
This command allows you to delete a message from the system. You may
delete personal messages to or from you, and public messages which you
originated.
"F"
This command allows you to FORWARD a personal message to the originator
of the message you just read, without knowing who the originator is.
Use this command to reply to the originator of a read-only message.
"E xxxx"
This command allows you to send a new private message to an arbitrary
account "xxxx", not just the originator, without leaving your read
sequence. For example, use this command to send a private message to a
person who has added a comment to the message you have just read.
"#99999"
This command allows you to jump you out of a previously selected read
sequence and move you directly to the message you have chosen by number.
That message must be on the same sub-board you are currently reading.
"?"
This command displays a helpful summary of the "End of Message" commands
and their functions.
[RETURN]
Entering a carriage return alone automatically moves you to the next
message in the sequence you have chosen. If the message just read was a
personal message, then the system will ask if you wish to save the
message. If you answer "NO" then the message is deleted.
"1-10"
This command is presented in the "End of Message" command line only if
the message just read was an AUTOPOLL message. Entering a number
registers your response to the AUTOPOLL. A summary of all responses to
the message is displayed after you enter your response. Please be
courteous to others and don't stuff the ballot box!
